Ford: New chapter in motorsport history 🎥

COMEBACK After around two decades, Ford will return to Formula 1 to develop the next-generation power unit for Red Bull.

The hybrid engines will be used by the Oracle Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Alpha Tauri teams from 2026 and until at least 2030. Ford and Red Bull Powertrains plan to start development work this year.

Sustainably produced fuel

Chairman Bill Ford: "This partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Ford's motorsports history, dating back to my great-grandfather, who laid the foundation for our company's success with racing victories."

Before the end of the year, Ford and Red Bull Powertrains will begin development work on the hybrid drive unit. In line with the new engine regulations for Formula 1, the power unit combines a 350 kW electric motor with a newly designed combustion engine that runs on sustainably produced fuel.

Circuit, Rally, Dakar and Baja

In the 2026 season, Ford will be entering a motorsport commitment that is more wide-ranging than that of almost any other manufacturer. On the circuit, the spectrum will then range from Formula 1 to the new Mustang GT3 for the World Endurance Championship WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well as the North American IMSA sports car championship to the races of NASCAR, NHRA and the Australian Supercars with special Mustang derivatives.

In the rally sector, the Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 used by M-Sport is added at WRC level, while the Ranger Raptor takes to the sandy tracks of the Dakar Rally and - alongside the Ford Bronco - the Baja 1000.

Competitive advantage for the partners

Christian Horner, Team Principal and Chairman of Oracle Red Bull Racing: "It's great that Ford is returning to Formula One with this partnership. For an independent engine manufacturer like us, being able to access the experience of a major car manufacturer like Ford is a significant competitive advantage. Ford's motorsport tradition spans generations. The line-up of superstars who have celebrated success in Formula 1 with Ford powertrain technology ranges from Jim Clark to Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher - that speaks for itself."
