Wohlwend: "Childhood dream comes true" 🎥

W SERIES AT FORMULA 1 The W Series will start in 2021 as part of eight GPs. Fabienne Wohlwend, the only German-speaking driver in the women's field, is delighted about this. The last and only time this year, the female racers from the W Series met at a two-day workshop in England at the end of February. They are now all automatically qualified for 2021.

The managers of the W Series have scored a coup. Next year, the unique women's racing car series will no longer appear as part of the DTM, as it did in its premiere year in 2019, but at eight Formula 1 Grands Prix. The exact venues will be announced at a later date.

Women are taken seriously
The W Series thus forms the supporting program with either Formula 2 or Formula 3 (are no longer at the same GP events in 2021) and the Porsche Supercup at eight Formula 1 races.

As the only German-speaking racer, Fabienne Wohlwend had qualified in 2019 and, thanks to her sixth place finish, should also have participated in this (cancelled) season. The Liechtensteiner, who turned 23 a few days ago, is all the more excited about the near future.

Fabienne Wohlwend: "This announcement is super, and it shows that we are being taken seriously. I'm convinced that the level of our race series will now rise even higher and the races will certainly be tougher."

Champion Jamie Chadwick ahead of Beitske Visser and Fabienne Wohlwend in MIsano 2019, where the Liechtensteiner finished third on the podium. In 2021, the battles are likely to get tougher.

First live at the Formula 1
Their anticipation is also very high for another reason.

Fabienne Wohlwend: "For me, a childhood dream is coming true! I've only ever seen one Formula 1 race live. Now we get to attend eight races for free, as we are invited to the W Series stakes. And on top of that, we get a nice prize money."

In addition, the professional racer may contest another season with Octane126 from Wallisellen in the Ferrari Challenge Europe. She hopes that the dates of the W Series, to which she is allowed to give priority, will not overlap.

Before the 2020 season could be concluded, the dates for the 2021 Ferrari Challenge have been set.

Ferrari World Final 2020 next March
The 2021 Ferrari dates are known before this year's season could be concluded. Because of the second wave of the Corona pandemic, in fact, the Ferrari World Final in Misano, scheduled for November 5 to 8, has been postponed. The new date is March 4 to 7, 2021 at the same venue.

The Finali Mondiali will then also feature the finals of the worldwide Ferrari one-make cups.

Fabienne Wohlwend is allowed to drive the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo from Octane126 next season as well.

Runner-up title is safe
Fabienne Wohlwend has already been confirmed as runner-up in the Trofeo Pirelli, although she was unable to take part in the Challenge rounds at Misano at the end of September.

Because the postponed 24 Hours of Nürburgring took place on the same weekend (which Octane126 contested with a GT3 car), the Zurich-based team was only able to take care of a Ferrari customer with a skeleton crew in parallel and could not undertake a "factory mission" with Fabienne.

Fabienne Wohlwend: "That was a shame, but understandable. I'm glad that in this special year, in addition to simracing the W Series, I was able to compete in at least a few real races with the Octane Ferrari. Some of my colleagues never got to drive at all."

On October 22, Fabienne Wohlwend took part in Season 2 of "Let's Play@SRF zwei". The "Rapunzel of racing" answered questions in a chat. She also taught SRF Digital editor Guido Berger how to (virtually) race - on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, of all places. Take a look for yourself - entertaining show.
