Before it goes on sale, the BMW M2 CS was subjected to the endurance test under racing conditions at the Nürburgring.

The BMW M2 CS Racing impresses with impressive driving performance and offers entry-level motorsport enthusiasts the performance of a thoroughbred racing car at an attractive price. The BMW M2 CS serves as the perfect basis for the new entry-level model. The special BMW M GmbH model celebrates its US premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt: "On the perfect basis of the BMW M2 CS and in close exchange with their colleagues at BMW M GmbH, our motorsport engineers have used many of the findings from the development of the BMW M4 GT4 to set completely new standards in the entry-level class with its smaller brother, the BMW M2 CS Racing. I am sure that with this vehicle we will continue the success story of BMW M customer sports vehicles."

Electronics from the BMW M4 GT4
The BMW M2 CS Racing is offered at a price of 95,000 euros (plus taxes) and has all the basic requirements for a successful entry-level model. The new customer sports vehicle is powered by an S55 in-line six-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, which, with a displacement of 2979 cc, produces between 280 and 365 hp in the racing version depending on the Balance of Performance or Permit B rating. The maximum torque of 550 Nm is transmitted by a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission applied with special motorsport software.

Motorsport-specific driving aids such as ABS and DSC guarantee newcomers safe handling of the vehicle. A mechanical limited-slip differential with pre-load and separate cooling is also part of the equipment, as are specially manufactured drive shafts. Analogous to the series counterpart, the roof was also made of carbon.

Clubsport variant with more power
Delivery of the first BMW M2 CS Racing is scheduled for mid-2020. As with the predecessor models, the BMW M235i Racing and the BMW M240i Racing, further platforms around the globe are planned in addition to the existing main areas of use such as the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring and TC America. A Permit B version is planned for use at the Nürburgring as part of the VLN.

BMW Motorsport is also already working on an upgrade package to 450 hp output. Further details and the start of deliveries will be announced at a later date.

The joint development of the production and racing vehicle underscores the close links between BMW Motorsport and BMW M GmbH.

450 hp in the series version
In the road car, the twin-turbocharged six-cylinder in-line engine based on the powerplant of the BMW M4 Competition produces 450 hp. The power is perfectly transferred to the racetrack and the road via the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the optional 7-speed M dual-clutch transmission (M DKG), the adaptive M sports suspension previously reserved for BMW M4 models, and Cup tires.

Endurance tests passed on the Nordschleife
An intensive test phase lies behind the race car. The first test runs in Miramas (F) and Portimão (P) were followed by the first race. At the VLN, BMW Motorsport junior Beitske Visser and Jörg Weidinger, test and development engineer at BMW M GmbH and himself a successful racing driver in the VLN and hill climbs for many years, completed an initial endurance test. In the process, they provided the engineers with valuable insights under racing conditions. Further runs followed at the seventh and ninth rounds of the VLN.

BMW continues the tradition of near-production customer sports cars with the M2 CS Racing.
