Woman day
Bertha Benz's long-distance trip to Pforzheim, almost 100 kilometers away, was over 130 years ago.

On the occasion of her 170th birthday on May 3, the Stuttgart-based company is retelling Bertha's historic long-distance journey in feature film quality, encouraging people all over the world to make their visions come true with courage and self-confidence.

Pioneer and first test driver
"Bertha Benz: the journey that changed everything" is dedicated as an inspiration to all women and men for International Women's Day on March 8. Bettina Fetzer, Head of Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars: "It was important to my team to show Bertha Benz as a strong woman and timeless role model. She was a pioneer and our first female test driver."

Long distance trip to Pforzheim
Bertha Benz's decision to raise awareness of her husband Carl's invention by driving the first long-distance automobile to Pforzheim, just under 100 kilometers away, was made more than 130 years ago. Nevertheless, her courageous act is more topical than ever, because even in today's mobile world, vision, assertiveness and belief in oneself are important prerequisites for success. And that makes Bertha Benz the best role model for present-day pioneers in all areas of life.

Exhibition at Mercedes Museum
Around the birthday of Bertha Benz, the Mercedes-Benz Museum is also dedicated to her life and work. From May 3 to 5, 2019, the live radio play "My Dream is Longer than the Night" about the life of mobility pioneer Bertha Benz will make a guest appearance in the Mercedes-Benz Museum's casino. The production, based on the novel by Angela Elis, will feature two evening and two performances on both the 170th anniversary of Bertha Benz's birth (May 3) and the 75th anniversary of her death (May 5).
