The first RAID to Paris started 30 years ago. The winner at that time was a team from Neuchâtel on a Renault 4CV. This year, the destination was Vienna for the first time.

Three wins in four years for the Schweglers
The team Andrea and Claude Schwegler mastered the approximately 1000 kilometer route as winners - on a Ford A Speedster Racer from 1930. Already the previous year they ran in as overall winners on a Triumph TR6 from 1971, and three years ago they won on a Chevrolet Master DA 2 Door from 1934.

A little more than 70 historic automobiles and youngtimers started on August 22 in good weather in Klosters.

Popular classic cars
This time there were a surprising number of pre-war cars at the start. The oldest car was a 1924 Cadillac, followed by a 1925 Sunbeam.

The field of participants included practically all the big car brands, from Aston Martin 1934 to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing from the 1950s, from Ferrari to Porsche. And of course a Citroën 2CV could not be missing.

The first stage led over the Flüela Pass to Innsbruck. On the next two days, the route led via Bad Ischl and Gmunden to Linz, and on Monday, August 24, the third day of the rally, Vienna was reached.

The cultural highlight of the rally was the baroque Melk Abbey, situated high above the Danube. One of the impressive places that marked the route of this anniversary rally.

Exemplary behavior
The fact that the event could be held despite Covid-19 was due to the special measures taken in consultation with the authorities in Switzerland and Austria, stressed a spokesman for the RAID organization.

The participants adhered to the special regulations in an exemplary manner. Thus, the anniversary RAID became an impressive and all-round successful rally, in line with the 30 years of experience of the organizer.
