Franco Sbarro: Special show in Romanshorn 🎥

WHERE YOU MEET The special Sbarro Concept Cars show opened at the autobau Erlebniswelt in Romanshorn. Franco Sbarro, 83, and his wife Françoise were present at the opening.

It is no coincidence that this special show is being presented in Fredy Lienhard's autobau, because Lienhard and Sbarro have a long friendship, which also resulted in some special concept cars that are now part of the exhibition.

First prototype with Lancia engine
Franco Sbarro, born in 1939 in Presicce, Lecce, came to Switzerland in 1957 to train as a precision mechanic. In 1959 he built his first prototype with a Lancia engine. In 1967 he founded his own company, building racing cars and sports cars to his own designs.

At the 1973 Geneva Motor Show, he attracted attention with the SV1 study, a safety sports car with two NSU Ro 80 engines in front of the rear axle.

Race cars and replicas
Concept cars and examples of Franco Sbarro's work are on display in the autobau erlebniswelt. These include racing cars such as the CanAm from 1968 as well as replicas such as the Sbarro Mercedes-Benz 540K, the sculpture for the car show Sbarro Concept Cars.

Ford GT40 and a Ferrari P4
The main part of the exhibition comprises the concept cars from four decades. Whether Challenge, Monster or Hélios, these cars always make for open mouths.

A typical example for Sbarro is also the VW Golf from 1982, which is equipped with a mid-engine from the Porsche 930 Turbo. This Golf, which weighed around 1300 kilograms, produced 300 hp 40 years ago.
