Bugatti: homage to a legendary icon

57 ONE OF ONE The Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic has always fired the imagination of car enthusiasts. Now a customer has created her own homage to the iconic model with her Chiron Super Sport. And so the 57 One of One was born.

Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic
One day, the 57 One Of One could achieve the same legendary status as its role model.

Many of the design features of the Type 57 SC Atlantic - such as the riveted fin running the entire length of the body - inspired Bugatti's modern design DNA. What's more: twenty years ago, a Bugatti customer saw a Type 57 SC Atlantic for the first time.

The car enthusiast remembers: "I visited the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, and there it was - all alone on its pedestal. I fell in love with the car from the very first second.".

Nice birthday present

Her wish for her own Bugatti came true two decades later, when her husband surprised her for her 70th birthday with a personal invitation from Bugatti to Molsheim to configure her own Chiron Super Sport. Jascha Straub, Lead Designer Sur Mesure at Bugatti, introduced her to the history of Château Saint Jean and the brand.

Jascha Straub: "When we passed a scale model of the Type 57 SC during their visit, it was immediately clear between us that this was the direction we should pursue. For years I had dreamed of reinterpreting this icon. So I already had my own ideas of how to honor the most elegant car ever designed."

Homage to the original

For the Chiron Super Sport 57 One of One, the Sur Mesure team worked hand in hand with Bugatti engineers to create a faithful homage to the original, while remaining true to Bugatti's design philosophy of Form Follows Performance and the technical requirements of the vehicle. As such, every intake, line and vent of the Chiron Super Sport has been carefully considered to meet the extreme cooling and aerodynamic requirements of a 440 km/h super sports car. The finished design - a new grille with polished vertical bars and a wider center stripe - is a modern interpretation that stays true to the iconic Type 57 SC Atlantic.

Dacia: leap over the 100,000 mark 🎥

SUCCESS By the end of November, Dacia had sold more than 100,000 vehicles in Switzerland. With its focus on the essentials, the brand, which is part of the Renault Group, has regularly set new standards since its market launch in 2005.

When Dacia launched the Logan model in Switzerland in 2005, the brand had sold 58 vehicles by the end of the year. Now, in November 2023, Dacia has broken the milestone of 100,000 units sold since 2005 and is one of the eight most successful suppliers on the Swiss private customer market. With its focus on the essentials, robust outdoor character and smart product design, Dacia has built up a range that is precisely tailored to the needs of its customers.

Design-to-cost strategy

Claudia Meyer, Managing Director Dacia Switzerland: "Over the past 20 years, Dacia has been able to continuously increase its market share in Switzerland, and many major brand names are now listed behind Dacia in the brand rankings."

The Romanian brand's success is based on an efficient corporate strategy that focuses primarily on the needs of customers. Dacia models are developed according to the design-to-cost strategy in order to offer users exactly what they need without increasing vehicle prices through superfluous functions.

Dacia milestone
The Extreme equipment is a new addition to Dacia's Swiss range.

Models for every need

Every Dacia model is focused on the essentials and designed to be economical and ecologically sound. The brand underlines this with a young product range that covers all the needs of private buyers with five models. These include the electric city runabout Spring, the bestsellers Sandero and Sandero Stepway, the seven-seater family crossover Jogger and the Duster, the third generation of which will be launched on the Swiss market in spring 2024.

Every Dacia claims to offer the best value for money.

Also successful in Europe

In addition to the 100,000th sale in Switzerland, Dacia also recorded considerable success at European level at the end of November. The brand is the second-strongest provider in the European private customer segment - with a market share of 8.4 percent in 2023 (to October) and more than 8.3 million vehicles sold since 2005. The market share in Europe has risen from 0.7 percent in 2005 to 4.4 percent.

Ampere: Three brands under one roof

E-AUTOS AND SOFTWARE Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi have redefined their alliance and are planning further cooperation. The Ampere business unit founded by Renault plays a central role in electromobility.

Renault Ampere
Renault and its alliance partners want to offer more affordable electric cars in the future. For example, the next Twingo.

With the creation of Ampere, the first European pure player in electric vehicles and software, Renault is driving forward the third stage of its Renaulution strategic plan. The company's aim is to become the European market leader for electric cars. This is to be achieved by introducing affordable models with the latest software for a broad customer base. Ampere is building on the Renault Group's 15 years of experience in the field of electromobility. Nissan has invested 600 million euros and Mitsubishi 200 million euros in Ampere. Mercedes-AMG: a beauty with turbo power 🎥

COUPE-LINIE With the new CLE 53 4Matic+ Coupé, Mercedes-AMG presents a new entry-level model in the performance coupé segment. The two-door model combines the agility of the C-Class with the spaciousness of the E-Class.

The long hood with two powerful powerdomes, the steeply raked windscreen and the elongated roofline that slopes down towards the rear are typical distinguishing features of this beauty. The flared front and rear fenders, the wide track and the 19-inch wheels give the AMG Coupé a powerful appearance.

Mercedes CLE 53 AMG
The performance potential of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 can be guessed at first glance.

Six cylinders deliver 449 hp

The CLE 53 4Matic+ uses a revised version of the 3-liter M 256 in-line six-cylinder turbo engine. The unit now produces 449 hp; the combustion chambers including the intake and exhaust ports, the piston rings, the injection system and the turbocharger are all new. Thanks to increased boost pressure, the maximum torque is now 560 Nm in continuous operation and 600 Nm with overboost. An additional electric compressor ensures better torque build-up and a more spontaneous response.

With Driver's Package 270 km/h

The second-generation starter-generator integrated into the transmission bell housing also helps to increase efficiency. As a central component of the 48-volt on-board electrical system, it functions as an electric generator and as a booster with 17 kW and 205 Nm. The electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h can be increased to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Driver's Package. Perforated and internally ventilated discs with four-piston fixed callipers and AMG lettering are used on the front axle, while discs with single-piston floating callipers are used on the rear axle.

Latest generation MBUX

The interior welcomes passengers with the latest generation MBUX infotainment system. The free-standing 12.3-inch driver's display, the 11.9-inch central display in portrait format and the dynamic ambient lighting are eye-catching. The integral seats in black man-made leather with AMG-specific graphics and red topstitching are also a highlight. Other features include red seat belts and trim elements in high-gloss carbon.

Prices and Swiss equipment are available on request.

Audi: These are Ken Block's last drifts 🎥

ELECTRIKHANA 2 The death of drifting legend Ken Block shook the motorsport world at the beginning of January. The previously unreleased last episode of his drift videos is a tribute to the US American.

Electrikhana 2 was filmed in November 2022 with the Audi S1 Hoonitron - just a few weeks before the snowmobile accident in which Ken Block died at the age of 55. It was a matter close to the heart of the drift artist's family to complete and release the film. Now fans can experience their idol one last time in breathtaking driving scenes and stunts with the S1 Hoonitron.

Audi Drifts Ken Block
Drift specialist Ken Block got everything out of his Audi S1 Hoonitron.

Total output of 500 kW

The all-electric prototype was developed by Audi Sport as a one-off exclusively for Block. It has two electric motors, all-wheel drive, a total output of 500 kW, a carbon fiber chassis and the full safety standard of the highest motorsport authority, the FIA. Following the filming of the first Electrikhana episode in August 2022, the vehicle was further developed in collaboration with Ken Block. This included a weight reduction and a simulation of gear changes.

A cloud of smoke to say goodbye

In the first episode, Ken drifted through Las Vegas in the S1 Hoonitron. The spectacular video reached more than 100 million people worldwide via various channels. Electrikhana 2 is set in Mexico City. The Mexican capital provided the crew of the Hoonigan company founded by Ken with fascinating locations - from the airport to a spiral parking garage. Together with the engineers from Audi Sport, Block came up with a very special gimmick for Electrikhana 2 that only an electric vehicle can offer. In one scene of the film, the front and rear axles pull in opposite directions, causing the Audi S1 to disappear into a large white cloud when stationary.

Fiat: Gray cars are a thing of the past 🎥

NEVER GREY AGAIN Fiat has won the ADCE Awards 2023, the prize of the European creative scene, with its No grey project. The concept, developed together with the Leo Burnett agency, promises a more colorful future.

The project No Grey, developed by the creative agency Leo Burnett and produced by Twister Film, was launched in June (AutoSprintCH reported) underlines Fiat's strategic decision to no longer produce gray cars. In the video, Olivier François becomes the protagonist of the clip, in which he presents the new 600e model under the motto "Italy. The land of colors. The brand of colors".

Fiat ADCE Awards 2023
Fiat CEO Olivier François was immersed in the paint bath with the 600e.

An important value of the brand

The ADCE jury explained its decision as follows: "The No Grey campaign succeeded in transforming a marketing idea - no more gray cars - into a memorable event. This communication tool spread spontaneously all over the world. It communicates to everyone the most important value of Fiat: Italian. In this way, the brand gained global visibility."

The colorful project has reached more than ten million views on YouTube. The project has also attracted worldwide attention on four continents

No-grey project not an advertising medium

Olivier François, CEO of Fiat and Global CMO of Stellantis: "I am honored to receive this prestigious award and I am even more excited because the No Grey project was not a promotional tool, but the way we decided to communicate a marketing decision. Toyota: These are the new cars of the future

OUTLOOK Over the next three years, Toyota will be launching six new models with all-electric drive. The manufacturer gave a preview of four of the vehicles for Europe.

Toyota electric SUV
One of the innovations is the Toyota Urban SUV concept vehicle.

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) is planning a small SUV the size of the Toyota Yaris as well as an Urban SUV Concept. The car will be rolling out to dealerships as early as 2024. The new electric vehicles (BEV) should be one thing above all: affordable.

Toyota European boss Matt Harrison has set himself the goal of offering mobility for everyone. However, offering electric cars at affordable prices is currently seen as squaring the circle in the automotive industry. After all, they are still around 10,000 francs more expensive than combustion engines. Toyota is taking a first step with its new, small SUV, which could be called the bZ3X. It is expected to cost less than 40,000 euros.

Production parts from Tesla

For the first time, Toyota is copying part of Tesla's production system in order to reduce manufacturing costs. For decades, Toyota was regarded as the role model for efficient production and was copied by all manufacturers - from General Motors to Porsche. Now the Japanese manufacturer is using another manufacturer's system for the first time.

With gigacasting, large structural parts of the body are produced in a single casting, which is faster and more efficient than assembling them from hundreds of individual parts. Toyota's premium brand Lexus will be the first to use gigacasting.

Multi-track into the future

Andrea Carlucci, Chief Marketing and Product Officer: "Our goal is to achieve 100% CO2 neutrality for our entire model range by 2035. By 2040, the company also aims to achieve zero CO2 emissions in production and logistics. Globally, Toyota will not reach this target until ten years later. However, this does not mean that all of the brand's new cars in Europe will be battery-electric by 2035. Depending on the market, Toyota will offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery and fuel cell systems, hydrogen combustion engines and vehicles for e-fuels."
