The trunk, back seat and passenger seat are popular places to store luggage, shopping bags or other items.
But if objects are loaded improperly, they can turn into life-threatening projectiles during hard braking. This also applies to seemingly harmless objects such as a water bottle or a cell phone.
No objects on the parcel shelf
Markus Peter, responsible for Technology & Environment at the Auto Gewerbe Verband Schweiz AGVS: "Heavy goods in the trunk should be packed centrally, if possible directly against the back of the rear seat, and always downward. Light items belong on top."
For proper loading, the expert recommends using lashing straps, luggage and partition nets or anti-slip mats. The parcel shelf should be left completely free.
Garagists show how to pack
Many vehicles are already well equipped in terms of load safety.
Markus Peter: "Anyone who wants to be carefree on the road, especially during the vacation season, should seek advice from a garage owner. They have suitable accessories and can explain how to secure luggage properly."
Constant control of the vehicle
Flip-flops and high heels are not prohibited, but Markus Peter urges motorists to wear good shoes:
"According to the Road Traffic Act, a driver must be able to control his vehicle at all times. This is not the case with these examples or with barefoot driving."
