After reaching a new all-time high in alternative share of 21.0 percent in December 2019, this figure was almost maintained in the first month of 2020 at 19.3 percent. Compared to the same month last year, the market share of electric, hybrid, gas and hydrogen cars is 11.1 percentage points higher.

Alternative technology in the fast lane
While the overall market cooled somewhat at the start of the year, as expected, with 18,788 enrollments and a year-on-year decline of 10.2 percent, alternative drives continue to cruise in the fast lane.

A 110.4 percent increase in unit sales compared with January 2019 speaks volumes. The various hybrid engines account for a market share of 14.4 percent, of which 3.5 percentage points are attributable to rechargeable plug-in hybrids. Electric cars reach 4.1 percent, CNG models are at 0.8 percent and hydrogen vehicles at 0.1 percent.

Better result than in the previous year
Christoph Wolnik, media spokesman for auto-schweiz: "If you add up the models that can be charged on the power grid, we arrive at a 7.6 percent share of enrollments in January. This figure is already well above the full-year 2019 result of 5.6 percent - a nice signal for the start of 2020 and the achievement of our 10/20 target."
