The premium segment is occupied by the Wey brand, which was already presented at the IAA in Frankfurt two years ago, with an SUV with plug-in hybrid drive, while Ora will enter the market with an affordable compact sedan with a retro look.
Sales of both newcomers will start in the first half of next year. A first showroom will also be opened in Munich then. Coffee 01 is the name of the first Wey model, although the name will probably still change.
Range purely electric of 150 kilometers
In Europe, the model is reportedly coming to dealers as the V71. The Chinese developers chose a combination of a two-liter turbo gasoline engine and an electric motor for the powertrain, resulting in a system output of 450 hp (331 kW).
According to factory specifications, the Coffee 01 can travel 150 kilometers on pure electric power and accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in around seven seconds.
Premiere for Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip
This all sounds very familiar, but Wey is breaking new ground when it comes to technology. The Coffee 01 is the first vehicle in the world to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, enabling particularly fast computing performance. In addition, 5G, facial recognition, personalization and artificial intelligence are on board.
In the interior, four screens provide information to the occupants, and a head-up display complements the information center. The interior of the Wey, which is around five meters long, is fitted with fine materials and meets the premium standard aimed for. The vehicle's settings are updated "over the air.
In addition to the large Coffee 01, Wey showed the second model Coffee 02 (gallery left) in Munich. The compact SUV is intended to round off the lower end of the range and will also roll out next year.
The Ora Cat is reminiscent of the Volkswagen Beetle
The Ora compact car (gallery right) with a retro design reminiscent of the Beetle comes as an all-electric vehicle. Great Wall promises a range of up to 400 kilometers, depending on battery size.
The Ora Cat is equipped with highway assist, automatic parking and, for the first time in this segment, five-millimeter wave radar (blind spot detection in the rearview mirror), and can also be updated "over the air."
Prices and equipment versions are not yet known and will only be announced in the months before the sales launch next year.
