Based on the modular transverse matrix, the Caddy has everything the Golf 8 can offer.

Based on the modular transverse matrix, the new Caddy offers almost everything that the Golf 8 has to offer. More than three million Caddy models have been built to date, and the vehicle has changed considerably from its beginnings to the current generation.

In 2019, Amag sold 3284 Caddy and the longer Caddy Maxi in Switzerland, with the Life and Cargo variants roughly balancing each other out. The change to the next evolutionary stage - market launch is in the second half of the year - represents another major leap forward in development and brings premium appeal to the exterior, cockpit and assistance systems in the commercial vehicle sector.

Six of the 19 assistance systems in the fifth-generation Caddy are completely new developments.

Improved safety and comfort
Thanks to the Modular Transverse Toolkit (MQB), new high-end technologies have found their way into the model series: assistance systems increase safety and comfort; networked infotainment and digitalized operating systems turn the Caddy into a smartphone on wheels; the new twindosing system allows the turbodiesel engines (TDI) to work cleaner than ever before. A real cleaner in this class.

Significantly more space in the interior as well
The exterior design is completely new and sporty. At the same time, the interior space has been significantly increased. This makes the Caddy 5 a multifunctional vehicle that can be used as a city delivery van or as a family vehicle.

The exterior is distinguished by numerous new features: These include optional electric closing aids for the sliding doors and the tailgate, as well as a particularly large panoramic roof over the first and second rows of seats.

Up to 18-inch alloy wheels and new LED headlights and LED taillights are options

Longer, wider and flatter
Inside, the fifth generation impresses with new high-tech solutions and significantly more space. The long version, for example, offers space for up to two euro pallets. With a normal wheelbase, the new Caddy measures 4.50 meters in length, which is 93 millimeters more than its predecessor. The wheelbase has grown to 2.75 meters. And the Caddy has become wider, namely by 62 millimeters to 1.85 meters. The height of the passenger version fell to 1.79 meters.

The architecture of the display and control elements has been completely redesigned: The interactive interfaces to the driver and front passenger are provided by the new optional Digital Cockpit and the radio and infotainment systems measuring between 6.5 and 10.0 inches. The combination of the Digital Cockpit and the 10-inch top navigation system creates a new digital display and control landscape: the Innovision Cockpit.

Trailer Assist is available on request
The rotary switch for the lights has had its day, with the light & visibility keypad taking over its role, to the left of the steering wheel. Many details in the central control unit can be accessed particularly conveniently and quickly via direct access buttons.

Another new feature is a roof vent for better air conditioning and faster standby ventilation in the rear. Also new in the Caddy: Trailer Assist, familiar from the Crafter, for reversing with a trailer, and Lane Change Assist including Park Assist.

Twindosing reduces emissions
The four-cylinder TDI engines in the Caddy are current-generation units. They already meet the Euro 6 emissions standards for 2021 and are all equipped with particulate filters.

For the first time, the new Twindosing system is being used for the 75 hp to 122 hp TDI engines: two SCR catalytic converters and a double AdBlue injection system significantly reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions compared with the predecessor. With this technology, the Caddy TDIs are among the cleanest compression-ignition engines in the world.

A turbocharged gasoline engine (TSI) with 116 hp and a turbocharged natural gas engine (TGI) are also available. Depending on the engine version, the Caddy's fuel consumption is expected to be up to twelve percent lower than its predecessor.

Prices and equipment for Switzerland had not yet been determined at the time of going to press.
