Geneva 2016: Sporty off-road vehicles on the rise

With around 85,000 new registrations, SUVs broke all records in 2015. It is therefore hardly surprising that many manufacturers are presenting sporty SUVs at the Geneva Motor Show (still taking place at Palexpo until March 13). Seat Ateca: The Spaniard comes with the latest technology, full connectivity, turbocharged engines and up to 190 hp.

Thus, the number of SUV advertisements in the comparis.ch car market tripled in the last six years. In the same time, the use of the car insurance comparison for SUVs more than doubled. According to Astra/Mofis and the importers' association auto-schweiz, 47,300 SUVs were registered in Switzerland in 2010, which was an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year. In subsequent years, the number of SUVs increased steadily. As early as 2012, the 60,000 mark was exceeded, and in 2015 the number of new registrations was already 85,000, which corresponds to a share of 27 percent of the total market.

Seat, Jaguar, Maserati and Tesla show new models
This development makes it clear how important the SUV segment has become. Among other things, Seat is presenting the Ateca in Geneva, an SUV suitable for everyday use in urban and rural areas. British manufacturer Jaguar is offering the F-Pace, the F-Type's sporty big brother for off-road use. In the luxury segment, Italian sports car manufacturer Maserati is following suit with the Levante. Tesla is also presenting the first all-electric SUV, the Model X. A comparison of the age groups has shown that the 30 to 39-year-olds in particular appear to be the most important SUV target group. This is because in 2015, one third of all comparisons for sporty SUVs were made by people of this age.
