Toyota recorded a significant increase in sales in Switzerland in the first half of 2017 compared to the previous year. Vehicles with alternative drive technology in particular saw significant growth.

In June, the Japanese car manufacturer even sold around 24 percent more vehicles in Switzerland than in the same period in 2016. Toyota owes this successful result primarily to the increasingly popular hybrid technology.

High growth rate
From January to June, the manufacturer once again increased its hybrid sales by 16 percent. In the overall market, demand for petrol hybrids rose by around 18 percent. Two thirds of all cars sold with this technology came from Toyota. The top five ranks for the most frequently sold hybrid vehicles all went to Switzerland's most popular Asian car brand: the leader was the Toyota Yaris small car, which is the only car in the B segment available with a hybrid drive. Second place went to the SUV pioneer Toyota RAV4, followed by the Auris, C-HR and Prius models.

More than one in two
Hybrid is also extremely popular internally. Today, more than every second Toyota customer opts for the drive with two hearts. The popularity of hybrids becomes even clearer when taking a closer look at the sales figures. If a model is offered with both a conventional and a hybrid drive, the latter always came out on top in the first half of 2017. In the Auris and RAV4, for example, more than 80 percent of all sales were attributable to the innovative drive technology.
