The first Lucerne beauty contest for automobiles took place in 1928 and was held until 1955. The highlight of the events was always the presentation of the cars on the Nationalquai in Lucerne. The Concours d'Excellence International was revived in 2016 by Urs P. Ramseier and Bernd E. Link revived. The competition was then still held at the Nationalquai in Lucerne in 2017 and 2018 before being moved to the Museum of Transport.

In 2022, the longstanding tradition of the event was successfully continued after a two-year forced break. With a new, driving format, the organizers broke new ground and thus ensured positive feedback. That is why the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne is continuing to expand this high-profile event.
