Market camper
Motorhomes are experiencing a sustained boom and are coming through the Corona crisis with almost no market losses.

In the first six months of the current year, 4786 new passenger transport vehicles hit the road, 4438 of which were campers alone. This category thus recorded an increase of 37 percent compared to the previous year.

Motorhomes are thus experiencing a sustained boom and have come through the Corona crisis with almost no market losses. The other commercial vehicle categories, such as cars, buses and minibuses, are more or less on a par overall. In contrast, touring cars are struggling more, with only 43 new vehicles hitting the road in the first half of the year.

Strong catch-up effect is noticeable
Following the 13.5 percent slump in the Corona year 2020, the Swiss commercial vehicle market is now seeing strong catch-up effects. In the first half of the year, 15,698 new light commercial vehicles entered the market, representing growth of 21.2 percent year-on-year.

This segment is also a good indicator of the current state of the economy. Demand for vans is picking up strongly.

Christoph Wolnik of auto-schweiz, the Association of Swiss Automobile Importers: "There is still room for improvement, but we are seeing a clear normalization of the market. Supply and demand for electric drives are also picking up. The market share of electric models in light commercial vehicles is four percent."

First half-year with strong plus
Together with the 124,547 passenger cars, a total of 146,935 new motor vehicles were put into circulation in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein in the first half of 2021. Compared to the previous year's figure of 121,554, this represents an increase of 25,381 new registrations or 20.9 percent.
