If you come to your car on an icy winter morning and find icy windows, you need an ice scraper that will quickly and reliably clear your view. The TCS has extensively tested nine different ice scrapers. The most important criterion was, of course, the effectiveness of ice removal, which had the greatest influence on the evaluation. In addition, the handling of the ice scrapers, their build quality, safety and additional functions were also tested.

The test winner is simple and robust
The test by the TCS experts showed that all nine ice scrapers do their job and that the differences are not too great. However, the X-Treme model was the clear winner, scoring 85 out of 100 points. The X-Treme ice scraper impressed with its effective and fast ice removal. It is a simple and robust ice scraper that did its job without any problems. With a purchase price of CHF 4.50 on the cut-off date, it is also the second cheapest of the ice scrapers tested. The ProPlus and Walser models also scored more than 80 percent and were rated «excellent». While the ProPlus ice scraper impressed with its compact shape, the Walser model offered additional functions such as a cleaning rubber. However, at a price of 24.95 francs, it was also significantly more expensive than the simple models.

Convincing low-cost models
The other six models scored between 79 and 60 points and were rated «highly recommended». It was striking that the ice scraper from the manufacturer Kärcher scored 60 points, but was the second most expensive with a purchase price of CHF 54.90 on the cut-off date. The ice scraper removes ice using an electric rotating disk with plastic blades. Although this ensures safe handling, the Kärcher ice scraper is very slow and, due to its complex design, is also sensitive to knocks and falls.

The TCS test showed that basically all models ensure ice-free windows. There were differences primarily in the core performance: how quickly and effectively the devices remove the ice. It turned out that simple, robust and inexpensive ice scrapers in particular deliver very good results. Anyone looking for additional functions will also find what they are looking for in view of the large selection of models on the market.
