Xpeng G6 AWD: Eye-catcher from China in the test
In order to quickly and sustainably establish itself as a high-tech e-brand in Switzerland, Xpeng is currently putting out a lot of power. This is also revealed by the test of the G6 SUV coupé.

With Diego Battiston as the new CEO of Hedin Distribution AG, the Chinese brand Xpeng has had a car manager on board since April 1 who knows the Swiss market inside out. The dealer network is also growing steadily. With the large SUV G9 and the compact SUV coupé G6, there are only two models available in this country, but the P7+ fastback sedan, which is over five meters long, will soon be added to the portfolio. And a look at China shows: There is much more in the pipeline.
Chic and comfortable
Autosprint tested what the brand newcomer can do in the G6. First impression: despite its stylish, sloping rear, the SUV coupé offers more than enough head and legroom even in the rear. The seats are very comfortable, yet offer the necessary lateral support when the Stromer is driven around corners in a sportier manner. The chassis, which is comfortable but still firm enough, is also successful and never turns the 4.75 meter long and, at 1.92 meters, quite wide G6 into a bumpy ride.
Still potential for optimization
Everything perfect? No, not that - but in view of the price of 51,600 francs for the all-wheel drive, it's very good. That's why we forgive the test car for seemingly trying to shock us with its air conditioning. Only when set to 26 degrees Celsius does the air conditioning stop blowing like a stiff breeze and instead feels like a pleasant 20 degrees. The Xpeng doesn't like rain - or at least its windshield wipers, which squeak miserably, so we turn them off in the meantime to have some peace and quiet in the otherwise quiet and powerful electric SUV.
The chic Xpeng G6 is available as a rear-wheel drive model with a 66 kWh or 87.5 kWh battery and a slightly more powerful electric drive, or as the country's particularly popular all-wheel drive model with the large battery. Two electric motors with a combined 350 kW/476 hp and 660 Nm make the G6 as athletic as the dynamic body shape suggests. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, and despite its sporty design, it still offers a range of a whopping 550 kilometers according to the factory specification.
What's more, charging is quick at the charging station: thanks to 800-volt technology, the Xpeng G6 charges at up to 280 kW. This means it only takes just over 15 minutes to charge from 20 to 80 percent. The test consumption for the SUV coupé, which enjoys sporty driving, is 18.2 kWh/100 km (factory: 17.9) and is certainly impressive. This also provides Diego Battiston and his team with good arguments on the Swiss market.
Expert opinion: Xpeng G6 AWD Performance
Despite minor inconsistencies, the sleek SUV coupé with electric drive is an exciting option for Switzerland thanks to its ample space and 4×4 - not least thanks to its attractive price.
Advantages
+ Plenty of space despite coupé shape
+ 800 volt technology for fast charging
+ All-wheel drive at a very fair price
Disadvantages
- Squeaking windshield wipers
- Air conditioning cools overzealously
