With 320 hp, 420 Nm and all-wheel drive, the new Golf R is the most powerful model in the series.
The Golf R is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, currently the most powerful engine in the new Golf generation. With 320 hp, the new Golf R delivers exactly 20 hp more than the predecessor model.
Increase in torque to 420 Nm
Maximum torque has increased from 400 to 420 Nm. This is already available at low engine speeds and remains constant at this high level.
The TSI engine transmits its power to the standard 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and is electronically limited to a top speed of 250 km/h. But if the R Performance package is selected, 270 km/h is possible.
Driving Profile Special as for Nürburgring mode
In addition, when you select the R Performance package, you get a larger rear spoiler that opens up to the roof, 19-inch wheels and two additional ride profiles.
The Special driving profile corresponds to the Nürburgring mode, and a Drift mode is also available. In Special mode, all essential parameters for the drive system have been configured for the Nürburgring.

4Motion with R-Performance Torque Vectoring
Also new is the 4Motion all-wheel drive system with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. This is a selective wheel torque control system on the rear axle. A new rear-axle transmission also distributes the drive force between the two rear wheels.
This is said to make the Golf R significantly more agile, especially when cornering. The all-wheel drive is also networked with other systems such as the electronic differential locks and the DCC adaptive chassis control system via a Vehicle Dynamics Manager. A world first in this class.
Lower chassis than the base model
Like all eighth-generation models, the Golf R is a five-door model. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, exclusive side sills, covers for the exterior mirrors in matte chrome (including R projection onto the road when the Golf R is opened and closed) and a suspension 20 millimeters lower than on the standard model.
R-specific design tachometer
In the new Golf R, you get the Discover Media infotainment system as standard, including functions such as a 10-inch screen, navigation system and voice control, as well as the Discover Cockpit Pro with instruments that are specially adapted to the Golf R.
Various layouts can be called up via the View button on the multifunction steering wheel. In addition to the familiar views from other models, the Digital Cockpit Pro in the Golf R offers a sports skin with a central round tachometer in an R-specific design.
Brushed stainless steel driver footrest
The driver and front passenger sit on sports seats with integrated head restraints. Blue accents in the side panels and an R logo in the backrest are among the R's distinguishing features.
Dashboard applications in carbon look, R-specific door trim, floor mats with the R logo as well as pedal caps and a brushed stainless steel driver's footrest are part of the extended standard equipment.
Swiss prices start at 57,500 Swiss francs. Advance sales have begun. The first deliveries will take place at the beginning of next year.
