Ever since the first Grand Cherokee drove up the steps to Cobo Hall and then through the glass doors of the Detroit convention center at its world debut at the 1992 North American International Auto Show, it has become synonymous with special design and high performance.
Now comes the new, fifth generation of this model. It is based on a completely new architecture, a plug-in hybrid drive and an enhanced body design.
The first Grand Cherokee with 4xe powertrain
While a 3.6-liter V6 with 293 hp and a 5.7-liter V8 with 357 hp will be available in the U.S. starting in the fall, the new Cherokee 2022 will come with 4xe plug-in hybrid technology, which provides plenty of power reserve and favorable fuel consumption figures.
Great 4×4 performance with superior driving dynamics on the road is promised by the three available all-wheel drive systems Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II. And with Quadra-Lift air suspension and electronic, semi-active damping, ground clearance and fording depth are adjustable.
A climbing specialist is as usual the Trailhawk
The Trailhawk model is the most off-road capable. In addition to 4×4 drive, it offers for the first time an electrically decouplable front anti-roll bar for even greater maneuverability and traction on rocks and in rough terrain.
The new Grand Cherokee not only provides more usable space for passengers and luggage, but is also even more comfortable as a touring car. Of course, the best connectivity is also guaranteed at all times. Uconnect 5 with entertainment and many driver assistance systems is combined with passenger screen and monitors for the rear seats. Navigation map updates are possible over-the-air.
Sales launch in Switzerland in spring 2022
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee with traditional V6 and V8 powertrains will arrive at Jeep dealers in North America in just a few weeks. The Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid model is scheduled for launch in the Americas in early 2022, after which it will be introduced to markets worldwide.
An exact launch date for Europe and Swiss prices are not yet known.
