Audi: SQ7 produces 435 hp and 900 Nm

In the summer, Audi is also launching a sporty S model for the Q7. The SQ7 breaks new ground, as an electric compressor ensures the most spontaneous throttle response. This requires an on-board voltage of 48 volts. The order books for the new Q7 flagship will open in a few days. In the SQ7, part of the vehicle electrical system is [...]

Audi SQ7: Part of the on-board electrical system carries 48 volts, which is required for the electric compressor and for the electromechanical roll stabilization.

The order books for the new Q7 flagship will open in a few days. In the SQ7, part of the electrical system is set to 48 volts in order to be able to introduce two new technologies. Probably the most important innovation is the electronic compressor, which is an integral part of the newly developed V8 turbodiesel and has never gone into series production in this form anywhere in the world. Thanks to the electric drive, the compressor can react to throttle commands with virtually no delay and build up the boost pressure energy required for the conventional turbos.

The turbos themselves are designed as register turbochargers, in which the second turbine is only activated at higher engine speeds. The 4.0-liter V8 has impressive key data. It has an output of 435 hp and a maximum torque of 900 Nm to offer. This enables it to accelerate the SUV, which weighs a good 2.3 tons and is over five meters long, from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Audi states an average fuel consumption of 7.2 liters per 100 kilometers.

Equipment: The luxurious, leather-lined interior is also available in a 7-seater configuration. The dashboard with virtual cockpit is standard.

Save a good 10,000 francs with the premium bonus
As a second use of the 48 volts, a roll stabilization system is optionally available for the chassis, which uses counterforce to reduce the body's inclination when cornering. This improves comfort and at the same time enables a higher cornering speed. Roll stabilization is part of the driving dynamics package, which also includes the sport differential with torque vectoring and all-wheel steering.

The first impression of the SQ7, which costs from 111,500 Swiss francs, is impressive. The car responds to accelerator pedal commands with virtually no delay and provides a brilliant power delivery. Despite its weight and size, it is also very agile and cornering-friendly. The model will be launched in the course of the summer, with a premium bonus of 9.5 % currently being deducted, reducing the price by a good 10,000 francs.
