Winner in Australia: Randy Krummenacher wins the first race of the season ahead of Federico Caricasulo and Anthony West.

The race could not have been more dramatic: Halfway through the 18-lap race, it started to rain. Despite the adverse conditions, Kenan Sofuoglu - who was leading at the time - managed to extend his lead. Krummenacher reacted and stayed on.

On lap 15 Sofuoglu's rear tire exploded and he crashed into the gravel in turn six. This was Krummenacher's chance: He took the lead! The Kawasaki factory rider coped well with the difficult conditions and successfully held off his pursuers. Thus Krummenacher won ahead of Federico Caricasulo and Anthony West.

"I'm really happy about this victory. It was an incredibly great weekend for me in general. The race was anything but easy. The conditions were completely different from the days before, as well as at the test earlier this week," explained Krummenacher.

The 26-year-old simply drove his rhythm: "The wind was very strong, which is why a good slipstream on the straight was enormously important. That's why the group was very large throughout the race. In the fights for position, however, I always stayed relaxed and waited for the right time to break away. That worked really well. It came as a surprise to me that Kenan crashed later. I'm sorry for him because it happened because of a rear tire defect."

The victory was something very special for Krummenacher. "For years I dreamed of this experience and hoped so hard at every moment to see the Swiss national flag and that the national anthem would sound for me. The fact that it happens right at the first race makes this experience and feeling all the more wonderful," reported the Kawasaki factory rider.

Krummenacher now leads the Supersport World Championship riders' standings. Kawasaki takes the top spot in the manufacturers' standings.

The next race will be held at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand from March 11 to 13.
