Régine Zbinden and Ela Steiner have been friends for 21 years. It's no wonder that they also harmonize perfectly in the cockpit of their Jeep Wrangler Sport 2.8 CRD and took part in the Aïcha des Gazelles Rally in Morocco for the third time out of a thirst for adventure. The women-only rally is not about speed, but about navigating as well as possible to find all the checkpoints and approach them as directly as possible. In addition, the women must also be able to drive well and handle the mechanics of their vehicles with care.
Impressive fourth place overall for Siffert's daughter
Behind two American duos, Véronique de Sybourg-Siffert and Emilie Kühni finished fourth overall in their Toyota FJ Cruiser. Although this meant they narrowly missed out on the podium, the two mothers of three were overjoyed after their second participation together. "We are proud of our performance. We overcame fatigue and didn't let a broken shock absorber throw us off our game. We simply drove around the dunes," reported Jo Siffert's daughter.
Behind another ladies' team from the USA, Sabine Käppeli and Yamina Illien from Vaud took sixth place overall among 135 teams in a Toyota Land Cruiser KZJ 95. The other Swiss gazelles placed 44th, 66th, 95th and 97th. We may not have a desert in Switzerland - but we have women who are absolutely fit for the desert. Chapeau, Mesdames!
