The Opel Corsa e-Rally comes across as spectacular, as the scenes of the test drives and the explanations about the car show.

The Opel Motorsport development team completed three days of testing at the test center in Pferdsfeld with four Corsa-e Rally and drivers Marijan Griebel, Horst Rotter and Opel racing legend Volker Strycek. On the track in Hunsrück, the 100 kW/136 hp electric Corsa covered a total of 1500 kilometers without any problems.

The Rally Corsa is based on the Opel Corsa-e and is the first purely battery-electric rally car from a manufacturer. Next year, the fast electric cars will compete with the Blitz in their own one-make cup, the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup.

Many special features
During the three-day test program, two complete rounds of the German Rally Championship (DRM) were rehearsed. This included special stages, liaison stages and service times.

For the first time in rallying, the focus was on the special features of electric mobility such as running and charging times, battery temperature management and fine-tuning the corresponding software. In addition, the all-electric racers completed endurance runs to test the stability of all the new components.

Ready to race
For the Opel Motorsport Director, the test was efficient and successful.

Jörg Schrott: "We have gained important data and knowledge for the further preparation for the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup 2021. Unfortunately, several rally test runs with our development cars could not take place this year due to the Corona pandemic. Our DRM simulation at the test center in Pferdsfeld was therefore all the more important. The new Opel Corsa-e Rally is now ready to race."

Eight races
The ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup will be held in eight rounds between May and October 2021. Before the actual start of the Cup season, an additional preparatory rally is planned for all registered teams in April.

Registrations will start on January 15, 2021, and those who register for the series with ADAC by February 12 will pay a discounted registration fee of 5900 euros (plus VAT). This includes all entry fees for the 2021 Cup season, access to the Cup hospitality for four team members, racing suits plus team wear for driver and co-driver, a service tent with ground tarpaulin and free charging of the Opel Corsa-e Rally throughout the season.

After February 12, 2021, the registration fee will be 7500 euros (plus VAT). All registrations already made in the course of 2020 remain valid.

The Opel Corsa-e Rally will be delivered to customer teams in March.

Opel Rally Junior Marijan Griebel was among the test drivers. He clearly enjoyed his work.
