Replacement for Alexander Albon
Nissan had to make a change to the driver line-up at short notice. The 26-year-old Oliver Rowland is the new team-mate of the 30-year-old Swiss driver. The Briton, who has been sponsored by Renault for many years, replaces Alexander Albon from Thailand, who has been given a regular Formula 1 seat at Toro Rosso.
Rowland won the Formula Renault 3.5 World Series in 2015 and was third in the FIA Formula 2 in 2017. He is no stranger to Formula E: in 2015, he raced for Mahindra in Uruguay as a replacement for Nick Heidfeld.
A milestone for Nissan
The new team was unveiled on Friday in the run-up to the NISMO Festival at the Fuji Speedway in Japan. Japanese driver Mitsunori Takaboshi (25) will be the test and reserve driver, while Briton Jann Mardenborough (27) - an upstart from the Nissan GT Academy - will take over development work on the simulator.
Sébastien Buemi: "Today is a milestone in the history of Nissan. We at Nissan e.dams have been working hard for six months towards the Formula E debut and hope that this will soon pay off."
The fifth multi-year season 2018/19 starts in two weeks' time in Saudi Arabia. It will be the first race with the new Gen2 electric racing cars.
An electric racing touring car
On the sidelines of this festival for fans of the Japanese brand, Nissan presented the LEAF NISMO RC. With the Formula E racing car and this purely electrically powered touring car, Nissan is demonstrating the sportiest side of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.
