Motorsport: Thomas Amweg's new challenge

Fredy Amweg was once regarded as the uncrowned Swiss mountain king, his older son Thomas emulates him with a Formula 3 racing car and has also celebrated many successes on the circuit in recent years. Now he is venturing into unfamiliar territory: Thomas is the first Amweg scion ever (younger brother Manuel drives for Toyota Swiss Racing on the Nordschleife, sister Sabine drove a Renault Clio until she had a baby) to switch to the sports car category. Amweg acquired a taste for it for business reasons. The workshop in Ammerswil, which he took over from his father, manufactures special mechanical parts for racing and agricultural vehicles. This also applies to the PRC constructions of Walter Pedrazza from Vorarlberg, who organizes the Sports Car Challenge. Thomas therefore tried out a PRC last fall, with which he got on so well that he signed up for 2016. The 31-year-old from Aargau will drive a PRC FPR9 Honda in the 2 to 2-liter division. The season kicks off next weekend in Misano, where the Blancpain GT Sprint Cup will provide the big backdrop.

This PRC is ready for Thomas Amweg: a design by Walter Pedrazza from Vorarlberg.

New competition in the season's hill climbs
"A sports car like this is fun, still affordable and safe with its carbon fiber chassis, which was important to me," says Thomas Amweg, explaining the change of class. He is also attracted by new opponents, including two other Swiss drivers, Simon Stoller (PRC Honda) and Marcel Aklin (Norma Honda). However, Thomas Amweg is not leaving his Dallara-Mercedes, which was once driven by Sebastian Vettel, unused: He attacks the Formula 3 records at the Hemberg, Reitnau, Anzère, Oberhallau and Gurnigel hill climbs. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all.
