One more award, but this time the highest in Switzerland: FIA chief Paul Gutjahr presented Neel Jani with the ASS Award 2016.

The Bellevue Palace in Bern provided the worthy setting for the honoring of this year's champions. All 35 podium winners of the Swiss championships announced by the sports authority ASS were present. The evening was hosted by Michael Sokoll, a well-known sports presenter from Swiss television. The 2016 champions were Eric Berguerand (Racing Cars, Mountain), Reto Meisel (Touring Cars, Mountain), Martin Bürki (Slalom), Danny Krieg (Mountain Cup), Sébastien Carron/Lucien Revaz (Rally), Aurélien Devanthéry/Michael Volluz (Rally Junior), Olivier Ramel/Jacques-Victor Bodenmann (Rally Cup) and Marco Kühnis/Martin Armando (Hist. Rally Cup).

Interview with touring car champion Reto Meisel: TV sports presenter Michael Sokoll guided through the evening, but did not elicit any secrets from the prize winners.

Award for Neel Jani in home canton
Numerous internationally successful Swiss drivers also accepted the invitation. Not surprisingly, a jury chose Neel Jani as the winner of the 2016 ASS Award, an honorary distinction given to personalities who have rendered outstanding services to Swiss motorsport. Jani was the second driver after Marcel Fässler to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans and, like the latter, now also became World Endurance Champion in the same year. "It is also special for me to receive this award here in my home canton," said this year's winner, expressing his delight. "It spurs me on to pass on my experience and knowledge to younger drivers now, since I started in Swiss karting 20 years ago." Read more about the champion's freestyle in the upcoming print edition of AutoSprintCH.
