FIA Formula E: Points for Simona, disaster for Sébastien

After being second fastest in free practice, the French-Swiss driver initially missed out on a place in the Superpole individual time trial for the top five. Starting seventh, he soon overtook Daniel Abt in a great maneuver, who later finished third. While trying to make up ground on Robin Frijns in front of him, Buemi braked and crashed into Frijns' rear end.

Sébastien Buemi apologized to the team
After this incident, both had to head for the pits early with damaged cars in order to switch to the second cars, which they only brought to the finish line with reduced energy consumption. A pit drive-through penalty knocked Sébastien Buemi down to 18th place, and his Renault e.dams team-mate Nico Prost also had to take a penalty for a minor time penalty when changing cars, which knocked him out of the points. At least Sébastien Buemi secured two bonus points for the fastest race lap. The victory went to Lucas di Grassi, with which the Abt-Schaeffler team redeemed itself for the disqualification after the supposed second victory of the season in Mexico City. The Brazilian takes the lead in the standings with a one-point advantage over Buemi (101 to 100). "I would like to apologize to my team and to Frijns for my mistake," said a remorseful Sébastien Buemi afterwards, as he actually had the fastest car.

Simona De Silvestro: "That was a big step forward, which is all the better as I feel at home here in front of the many US fans."

Finally it was a perfect fit for Simona De Silvestro
Frijns' Andretti teammate Simona De Silvestro had reason to celebrate. The second driver from Vaud in the 18-car field drove a smart race in her former adopted home and scored her first championship points as ninth and the first woman ever to do so in Formula E. "I've come close a few times before, but now everything has fallen into place for once," said the Swiss Missile happily.
