While Swiss Moto2 riders Tom Lüthi and Jesko Raffin continue their four-month interrupted World Championship season this weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera, it is just beginning for Dominique Aegerter in the 2020 MotoE World Cup.
Five race weekends for the e-bikers
Immediately after the first official test at the same site in mid-March, the world came to an unprecedented standstill. For a long time afterwards, there was only uncertainty as to what would happen next.
A completely revised calendar has been in place for a few weeks now, which includes five events with a total of seven races for the electric motorcycle racing series.
A one-day test in the run-up to the first race weekend after the long race-free period already gave a foretaste of what can be expected this weekend and next at the Circuito de Jerez.
Changeover mastered
Dominique Aegerter has been a perennial contender in the middle Grand Prix category since the introduction of the Moto2 class in 2010. However, as he was unable to find a promising project for this year, the rider from Rohrbach switched to the German Dynavolt Intact GP team.
Aegerter seems to have mastered the switch to the electric racing machine effortlessly. After finishing the first test four months ago in third place, he set the fastest time in every session on Wednesday this week.

Finally it starts
The long wait and the uncertainty as to whether there will be any races at all this year sometimes made him nervous, admits the motorcycle pro.
Dominique Aegerter: "I'm incredibly happy that the time has come. The restart with the test rides went perfectly for us. I had already built up a good feeling for this bike during the first three-day test at the beginning of March and I was able to prepare myself excellently during the long break. However, I really missed the racetrack training, but physically I'm in even better shape."
Hot sprints
With expected conditions of up to 40 degrees air temperature and 65 degrees asphalt temperature in Andalusia, this will be a great help. Nevertheless, as a rookie in the e-bike series, it is a little surprising to have been the fastest in all the test sessions.
Dominique Aegerter: "We worked through our program without any problems and can now look forward to the first race weekend with confidence. A few changes have had a very positive effect. It would be great if we could continue in this way in the training sessions. That would be half the battle for a great start for me."
After three half-hour free practice sessions, the best grid positions will be decided on Saturday, July 18, from 4:05 to 5:00 pm. The race will start shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday morning and develop into a real electric sprint: The distance is only seven laps or just under 31 kilometers.
