As is well known, the 29-year-old from Rohrbach will contest the MotoE World Cup this year for the Dynavolt Intact GP team. However, this newly launched racing series with electric racing machines only comprises five events. His contract with the German team therefore allows him other jobs as a racing driver.
Based on his strong performances in recent years at the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race, Aegerter recommended himself for the role of HRC test rider for the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer's superbike project, which was only recently completely launched from scratch.
An honor
Mixed in with his joy is pride that Honda has chosen him for the test driver duties.
Dominique Aegerter: "A big challenge awaits me with the new HRC Superbike project. A plan has already been drawn up for this year, which includes six two-day tests. Mostly we will be in Sepang and Suzuka. It's an honor for me to be involved in the further development of the brand new Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade and in this way to support the World Superbike Championship factory team with Alvaro Bautista and Leon Haslam."
Substitute driver and factory entry in Suzuka
The Bernese is also intended as a substitute rider in the event that a regular rider of the two Honda superbike teams should ever drop out. In the same context, his participation in the 8-hour race in Suzuka in the middle of the year has also been fixed. Domi will be there as an official HRC rider.
Dominique Aegerter: "I always enjoy riding a superbike. This task will also help me to stay in racing practice. A superbike is also an excellent training tool in terms of the heavy MotoE bike. I have had a very good relationship with Honda for a long time, not only in Switzerland but also in Japan. I am very motivated and will do my best to recommend myself for further tasks."
