After a long period of uncertainty about what to do next with his career, Dominique Aegerter can now take a deep breath. The 29-year-old from Rohrbach signed an agreement with the German Dynavolt Intact GP team for the recently created racing series with electric motorcycles.
Nerve-wracking time
The provisional race calendar for the 2020 MotoE World Cup includes five events with a total of six races. The agreement allows Aegerter to pursue further activities in other racing series. Talks are being held with various teams in this regard.
Dominique Aegerter: "I'm super happy that I was finally able to settle my future. The long negotiations with my current team were very nerve-wracking. It's not easy for me to say goodbye to Moto2. On the other hand, I'm really looking forward to the new challenge with the Intact team in the MotoE World Cup. It was the best option for me. The team is one of the best in the paddock and they have already gained experience with the MotoE bike this year."
High expectations
Having never ridden an electric motorcycle before, Domi is very excited to see what awaits me in MotoE.
Dominique Aegerter: "I've already heard a lot of positive things. The acceleration is supposed to be breathtaking and the tires have an incredibly high grip level. I can therefore well imagine that this package will suit my riding style well. I'm also approaching this challenge with the mindset of rocking MotoE from the first outing and being right up there at the front."
Moto2 replacement rider for Tom Lüthi
The agreement with Dynavolt Intact GP could result in further appearances in the Moto2 World Championship. Aegerter is the first replacement should one of the two regular riders Tom Lüthi or Marcel Schrötter drop out.
Dominique Aegerter: "I wouldn't wish that on either of them, of course, and I don't want to think that far ahead. I will use the winter months to prepare for my new main task. I am very grateful to the team management of Intact GP that they have chosen me. With their offer, they made my decision quite easy. I can now focus mainly on racing again after actually being more of an entrepreneur than a professional on a race bike for the past two years. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this coming about, as well as to all the sponsors and fans who have always remained loyal to me."
