Cars in a steel tank: Polygon becomes an exhibition center

Since 2008, industrialist and car collector Fredy Lienhard has created the autobau Erlebniswelt (autobau world of experience) on the site that formerly served the Swiss Alcohol Board. Another important step now follows with the conversion of the polygon, a striking dodecagonal building. Special vehicles from Fredy Lienhard's collection are to be put in the best possible light in the place where alcohol, fire-fighting water and, most recently, rapeseed oil were once stored. The starting signal for the construction work, which is to cost a total of four million Swiss francs, was given at the beginning of 2016. Completion is expected by the fall.

Ideal combination of cultural assets a stroke of luck
For the cantonal office for the preservation of historical monuments, the autobau is a distinct stroke of luck. The deputy head of the office, Bettina Hedinger, also speaks of the latest project as an ingenious combination of two cultural assets, namely a historically valuable building and classic automobiles. In this way, the polygon building with the steel tank can be experienced on the outside and also on the inside.
