The teaser for the 2020 Le Mans Classic shows what drivers and fans will now have to wait a year longer for.
The consequences of the Corona crisis are now also affecting two major European historic racing events that only take place every few years. The Le Mans Classic, scheduled for July 3-5, 2020, has been postponed by one year to July 1-4, 2021.
This has always been held in the even years since 2002. It is the only race besides the 24 Hours of Le Mans to be held on the original Circuit de la Sarthe. Around 600 racing cars from six eras from the pre-war period to the 1980s and around 200,000 spectators are involved in each event.
Memories of the former mountain European Championship run
In Switzerland, the Ollon-Villars International Motor Race has been held only every three to five years since 1998. In memory of the international mountain race from Ollon to Villars, which was held a total of ten times from 1953 to 1971, the eighth staging of the revival without timekeeping was planned for the weekend of August 22/23, 2020. This will now not take place until August 21/22, 2021.
The organizers from Vaud, like the French, do not want to take the risk that the major event cannot be held due to restrictions on sporting events, despite the relaxation of certain measures. Already 200 of the 300 starting places for historic racing vehicles on two, three and four wheels from all over Europe had been allocated. These will remain valid for 2021.
