Skoda: Smart station wagon from the up-and-coming designers 🎥

NUMBER 9 The ninth individual vehicle that has just been completed as part of the Škoda vocational school's lighthouse project is called the Roadiaq, drives purely electrically and contains numerous innovative ideas for a station wagon.

With the multifunctional mobile-office camper Roadiaq, 29 trainees have once again expressed the spirit of discovery typical of the Škoda brand. The new station wagon is a purely battery-electric vehicle with all-wheel drive that digital nomads can use for traveling, working or relaxing wherever they are.

Škoda's ninth Azubi Car contains everything a mobile office needs: a permanent Internet connection, a 27-inch monitor and a docking station. In just a few simple steps, the car transforms from a workplace into a living environment with a bed and small kitchen.

Skoda Roadiaq
With its high-roofed design, the Škoda Roadiaq is an ideal car for campers.

More than 2000 working hours

When it came to converting a regular Enyaq into the car of their dreams, the trainees at the Škoda vocational school had expert support. Teachers from the vocational school, experts from several Škoda departments and external specialists in camping conversions provided them with their expertise. The 29 apprentices from the Škoda vocational school began their work on the Roadiaq in the fall of 2022.

Over a period of nine months, they spent more than 2,000 working hours developing the vehicle. To turn the Enyaq into a camper van, the apprentices had to make significant changes to the body. In addition to a new roof design, they developed a new tailgate to which a tent can be attached.

All-wheel drive with two E-motors

The all-wheel drive of the Roadiaq is the same as that of the standard Enyaq 80 X Sportline model. A synchronous motor mounted on the rear axle with an output of 150 kW and a maximum torque of 310 Nm drives the rear wheels, while an asynchronous motor on the front axle delivers another 80 kW and a torque of 162 Nm. The 82 kWh battery enables a range of up to 495 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

The base vehicle's length of 4.65 meters and width of 1.88 meters have remained unchanged. At 2.05 meters, however, the Roadiaq is more than 35 centimeters taller than the standard version.

Toyota: More dynamics for the Prius

NEXT STEP The most efficient Prius ever is offered in Europe as a plug-in hybrid electric. Its dual character combines best electric driving characteristics with we optimized hybrid drive performance.

Toyota Prius
Thanks to the second-generation TNGA (New Global Architecture) platform, the new Prius offers even better driving performance

The fifth-generation Toyota Prius presents itself with various innovations and thus opens a new chapter in its long history. The latest Prius - already generation five - is only available in Europe as a plug-in hybrid electric, but in this country it is called the Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

System performance now with 223 hp

The new Prius also boasts further improved hybrid technology. As Toyota's most powerful and efficient PHEV, it adds significantly more punch to the model range. The electric range is up to 86 kilometers thanks to the 13.6 kWh battery. This is sufficient for most daily trips. With more power and higher efficiency, the hybrid system now enables an even better driving experience. The 2-liter engine delivers 152 hp (112 kW), the e-machine 120 kW (160 hp), which adds up to a system output of 223 hp (164 kW).

Complete charge in four hours

The aerodynamic body shape that has characterized the Prius since its second generation has also been further developed. The silhouette resembles that of a coupe, the length has decreased by 46 millimeters, the height by 50 millimeters, and the wheels are now in 19-inch format.

The driver's gaze falls directly and easily on a 7-inch screen. The front camera and radar now see even further ahead, and the field of vision has also been extended to the sides. A traffic jam assistant makes driving in slow-moving traffic easier, and the semi-autonomous parking aid reduces parking stress. The battery can be fully charged at the wallbox in four hours.

Hope for the coveted title again

Three of these pro cars also feature Swiss drivers. First and foremost with last year's winner Raffaele Marciello. The Ticino native will pilot a Mercedes AMG GT3 from Team Akkodis together with Timur Boguslawski and Jules Gounon. Marciello is naturally hoping for a successful title defense, something that has rarely happened at the 24-hour classic in the Ardennes in recent years. The last drivers to repeat their victory the following year were Belgian Eric van de Poele and German Michael Bartels in 2005/2006.

Lancia: Here the boss drives the Pu+Ra HPE 🎥

PREVIEW The all-electric Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept car gives a foretaste of the renaissance of the traditional Italian brand. A video shows Lancia CEO Luca Napolitano at the wheel of the new car.

Lancia, a Stellantis Group brand, has an ambitious roadmap for the next ten years. The aim is to revitalize the brand internationally. This process is based on the three pillars of electrification, quality and sustainable materials. The renaissance of the brand is entering the next phase with preparations for the market launch in six countries outside Italy. By the first half of 2024, the brand will be present in many major European cities with a network of 70 new dealers.

Lancia Pu+Ra HPE
The Pu+Ra HPE concept car shows where future Lancia design is headed.

Straightforwardness, radicalism and ambition

Luca Napolitano: "Lancia is the brand of beautiful Italian automobiles, state cars and winning rally cars from the 1970s to the 1990s. The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE embodies all those elements that have made our brand famous throughout the world: Straightforwardness and radicalism, elegance and sharply drawn geometries. The Pu+Ra HPE gives a clear indication of what future models of the brand will look like. Thanks to the collaboration with furniture brand Cassina, driving the car is a real pleasure. It feels a bit like traveling with your own living room."

New brand logo and corporate identity

Lancia will introduce three new models in the next few years. The completely redesigned Ypsilon will be the first in 2024. This will be followed in 2026 by the Gamma C-segment SUV, and in 2028 by the Delta, all of them exclusively with electric drive.

Luca Napolitano: "Last year we appointed five brand managers for the countries that are priorities in the process of returning to the international market. There are now as many as six countries. We unveiled the new brand logo at Lancia Design Day, introduced the new corporate identity and presented the concept car at Design Week in Milan. Now the vehicle is touring Europe as a preview of the new era."

BMW: M2 a racer for the road 🎥

STRONG TYPE In recent years, M GmbH has developed into a strong pillar of BMW. The entry-level model in BMW's sports division is called the M2 and now appears in a further optimized new edition.

The TCS Betzholz test site in Hinwil provided an opportunity to get a close look at the BMW M2 compact sports car, which has been further developed both visually and technically. Compared to its predecessor, the second generation, a highlight of M GmbH's 50th anniversary, is slightly longer and wider, but lower. And thanks to the increased track width, it sits even better on the road.

Technology of the big in the small

The powertrain and chassis technology is essentially taken from the M3/M4 model pair, i.e. it comprises the 3-liter inline six-cylinder engine with two turbochargers and direct injection, the 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and the rear axle drive with sport differential. On the chassis side, a spring strut front axle and a five-link rear axle are used. This puts up to 550 Nm and 460 hp on the road, controlled by various driving dynamics systems. Those who like the road racer a bit more purist can select the 6-speed manual transmission and thus save an additional 25 kilograms of vehicle weight.

Equipped with an automatic transmission, the M2, which weighs 1725 kilograms, accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, according to the manufacturer; the manual transmission takes two tenths of a second longer. The top speed is 250 km/h, or 285 km/h if the M Driver's Package is selected.

Top marks also for handling

The new M2 is extremely agile on the short and winding handling course at the Driving Safety Center. Its very torsionally stiff body, balanced axle load distribution and precise, direct steering make it a distinctly fun-to-drive model. As an alternative to the standard sports seats, M carbon bucket seats are available for an even more intense connection with the car. Programmed driving modes can be selected directly using the M buttons on the steering wheel, and as a gimmick for particularly racing-minded drivers, there is a drift analyzer and laptimer for evaluating driving activity. The compound braking system decelerates the 19- (front) and 20-inch wheels (rear) with the necessary bite, but perfectly controllable.

BMW M2
BMW Switzerland quotes 91,300 Swiss francs as the base price for the M2.

Much beefier than the predecessor

Visually, the enhanced M2, which is built at the Mexican plant in San Luis Potosi, stands out clearly from its predecessor thanks to the new kidney design, the more muscular wheel arches, the rear section with spoiler lip and diffuser insert, and the two large pairs of tailpipes. It now measures 4.58 meters in length, 1.40 meters in height, and the wheelbase is 2.75 meters.

Chamblon slalom: MOB dethrones MB

DONE Martin Oliver Bürki is the new Swiss Slalom Champion. In a thrilling final in Chamblon, he dethroned namesake and serial champion Martin Bürki. The day's victory went to Philip Egli for the 48th time.

The two Bürkis, who are neither related nor in-laws, have scored the maximum points in all six rounds this season. Therefore, the number of defeated opponents in their respective class or division was decisive - and there it was a draw before the final. The number of competitors in Chamblon was the deciding factor. And here, the new champion Martin Oliver Bürki had the better cards.

The Amsoldinger managed to mobilize more competitors than Bürki. But that alone almost wasn't enough in the end. MOB, as he is known in the paddock, was, contrary to expectations, only second in his class after the first round. The driver of the BMW E33 was a full second behind brand colleague Kevin Metroz from Liddes (VS).

Martin Bürki after the final of the Swiss Slalom Championship in Chamblon (VD): "Of course I would have liked to win the tenth title. But I don't begrudge my namesake this success. It was a great and exciting season and for me it's right the way it is."

Day win again for Philip Egli

Philip Egli's 48th win of the day (!) was almost lost in the exciting battle for the championship. The Glarner, who lives in Zurich, was successful on his paradise course for the eighth time. His fiercest opponent Lukas Eugster waved him off even before the start. And so it came to pass. Egli distanced Eugster, who was fighting bravely with blisters on his hands, by almost five seconds. At the finish line there was a warm embrace and a "thank you" for a varied season with exciting duels. Victor Darbellay followed in Chamblon in third place. The 27-year-old from Valais seized the opportunity and claimed his first podium finish in the Swiss championship.

Christian Bralla fastest touring car driver

Joffrey Salomon (Formula Jedi), Stéphane Maréchal (Renault 2.0), Anthony Gurba and Samuel Métroz (both Formula Arcobaleno) followed in the other ranks. Fastest touring car driver was once again Christian Bralla. A strong first run in 3:11.9 min was enough for the touring car best time for the man from Ticino. In the second run, he discovered an oil leak shortly before the start, which prevented him from taking part in the second race.

Second place in the touring cars went to the second Fiat X1/9 in the field: Christian Darani. Third fastest driver was Stephan Burri in his VW Scirocco. The latter was very happy for the new champion, but at the same time annoyed with himself. If Burri had been a bit brisker in the first run in Ambri and had won his class there instead of finishing second, he would have won the slalom title. In the event of a tie, Burri would have defeated more opponents than the two Bürkis together!

The other class winners in Chamblon include: Christophe Oulevay (IS up to 1600 cm3), Christoph Zwahlen (IS plus 2500 cm3), Hans Wüthrich (E1 up to 1400 cm3), René Aeberhardt (E1 2001 up to 2500 cm3), Tobias Meier (E1 up to 3001 up to 3500 cm3), Fabrice Winiger (E1 plus 3500 cm3).

Arnaud Donzé was lucky. Fire broke out in the interior of the VW Golf of the Interswiss driver after crossing the finish line in the second run. Donzé was not injured. The fire could be extinguished. For the driver from the Jura, the season ended with third place in the class behind the winner Burri and Jürg Ochsner.

Sandro Fehr won the title

The duel in the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup between Sandro Fehr and Marcel Muzzarelli was also exciting. The starting position before the seventh race of the popular one-make cup was clear: If Fehr wins, he is the champion. If Muzzarelli wins, he can put on the crown. After the first race, Muzzarelli was ahead. But Fehr turned the tables again and in 3:38.338 minutes not only secured victory in Chamblon but also the title.

Roman Grosjean: Life after Formula 1 🎥

FUTURE Lamborghini factory driver Romain Grosjean talks about his life after Formula 1 as the countdown to the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA Sports Car Championship with the LMDh hybrid is underway.

The former Formula 1 driver and current Lamborghini factory driver, who privately drives a Lamborghini Urus (gallery, left), is preparing for the new challenge as the central figure of Lamborghini's 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship program. In two Lamborghini films, the Swiss-French racer talks about the exhilarating energy of endurance racing and the anticipation of Lamborghini's newly announced LMDh, as well as the impact the events at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix had on his life and personal philosophy.

Lamborghini factory driver Romain Grosjean
Swiss-French racing driver Romain Grosjean now lives in Miami and has new racing plans.

The 36-year-old Geneva native, who now lives in Miami, made 179 race starts in his Formula 1 career as a regular driver in the nine seasons from 2012 to 2020. He has been competing in the American Indy Car Series since 2021. He made his debut for Lamborghini's Squadra Corse in a Huracán GT3 Evo2 at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January this year.

3.8-liter biturbo V8 with 680 hp

Grosjean is playing a key role in the rapidly progressing development of Lamborghini's eagerly awaited LMDh hybrid racing prototype. The car is powered by a new 3.8-liter biturbo V8 whose output is limited by regulations to 680 hp. Grosjean reveals, "I love endurance racing. When I moved to the U.S., I really wanted to race at Daytona, and thanks to Lamborghini, the opportunity came up. When you're 20, all you care about is being the fastest. Now I appreciate having teammates. It's about compromise and making sure everyone is happy."

Tough endurance championship

In addition to the FIA World Endurance Championship, the LMDh will also compete in the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship in North America. This represents Lamborghini's biggest involvement in motorsport to date. It follows three class wins in the GTD category at the 24 Hours of Daytona, two consecutive victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring and other successes. Now the hypercar class of the world's two toughest endurance championships beckons, and Grosjean is one of the drivers taking a leading role.
