Chassis: For the BMW M2 as desired

TUNING For the second edition of the BMW M2, suspension manufacturer KW Automotive has launched a wide-ranging coilover suspension delivery program for the racetrack and the road. There are tailor-made solutions.

BMW M2 KW suspension
KW has developed four tailor-made coilover suspensions for the new BMW M2.

For the BMW M2, suspension manufacturer KW Automotive offers no less than four coilovers. From the dual-adjustable V3 coilover suspension to the triple-adjustable V4 version for the road and the race track-optimized V4 Clubsport and V5 Clubsport versions with motorsport components from GT4 customer racing as well as solid piston damper technology from the DTM.

All coilovers have a parts certificate and allow stepless lowering by up to 35 millimeters. The BBS flow-forming wheel set measures 10 x 20 inches on the front axle and 11 x 21 inches on the drive axle.

Dynamics for road and track

With the KW V3 and the KW V4 from the Street Performance category, KW makes all BMW M enthusiasts a dynamic driving offer that unleashes the new M2 series G87 on the road. While the KW V3 is adjustable in the Lowspeed compression stage and Lowspeed rebound stage, the KW V4 allows, as in the M4 GTS, to tune the forces in the Highspeed and Lowspeed compression stage and Highspeed rebound stage.

KW has extensively revised the V4 Club Sport coilover suspension for the BMW M trackday community. A new feature is that the wheel-guiding MacPherson front-axle struts are manufactured in an upside-down design with a 40-mm plain-bearing damper cartridge.

Wheel camber personally adjustable

A fixed component of the KW Club Sport suspension for the M2 are the unibal bearing aluminum support mounts for both axles. These are adjustable in camber on the front axle. The V4 Clubsport costs 8185 francs, the V5 Clubsport 11570 francs.

Says Florian Johann of KW: "We recommend the Clubsport applications to anyone who regularly drives on racetracks with semislicks and wants to counteract the high wear on the M2 front axle caused by the rapid succession of chicanes and the higher cornering speeds as well as the extreme lateral guidance forces."

Doha Motor Show: Geneva helps launch 🎥

WHERE TO MEET 30 renowned brands have signed up for the first automotive show in Qatar, according to the Geneva International Motorshow, which is working with organizers in the Persian Gulf emirate.

According to the organizer, ten product premieres will be exhibited at the trade fair from October 5 to 14, 2023. However, the names of the exhibitors will be announced in the coming weeks. In addition to the trade show at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (gallery on the right), a forum on the future of automotive design will be held simultaneously at the National Museum (gallery in the middle) of Qatar.

Car Salon Doha
Doha is to be a meeting place for Far Eastern and Western automotive industries.

Space for international events

With the motor show, Qatar is continuing its strategy of promoting itself as a place for internationally important events, which in turn is expected to translate into a growing number of tourists. In March, for example, the ninth "Destination Wedding Planners Congress" was held, the largest event of its kind in the world, and a month earlier exhibitors at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition met in Doha.

Trade fair, Formula 1 and offroad

In addition to the car show, visitors can also attend the Formula 1 Grand Prix (October 6-8). Switzerland is currently offering a trip to the show and race for 1200 francs. In addition, visitors can book off-road driving experiences (gallery on the left) in the Sealine Desert and on the Formula 1 Lusail International Circuit or visit the new automobile museum.

Wealthy visitors in focus

According to the concept for the show, the Qatari organizers are focusing primarily on affluent visitors and promise the relevant exhibitors a platform "in the world's fastest growing market for luxury cars." This is certainly no coincidence, as the focus of luxury car growth, according to consulting firm McKinsey, has shifted from North America and Europe to Asia and the Middle East.

Sandro Mesquita, General Director of the Geneva Motor Show, said, "We are well on our way to making the event the new top automotive show for the Middle East and bringing together the Far East and Western automotive industries."

Preparations for Geneva 2024

So while the event in the Emirate will go ahead as planned, those responsible in Geneva are also already looking ahead to the long-established Geneva Motor Show, which is to be held again next year. It will then celebrate its 100th anniversary as an international trade show. In the early years, only Swiss manufacturers were allowed to exhibit on Lake Geneva.

A weekend for the public

The motto of the trade fair is "Auto. Future. Now." The show will be open to the public from Feb. 28 to March 3. Exhibitors can apply for the show from now on. However, there has been criticism of the date in advance because the public only has one weekend to visit the event.

In 2019 came about 600 000 visitors

For the time being, the last Geneva Salon in 2019 was visited by about 600,000 interested people. At that time, the show was canceled a few days before the scheduled opening due to the Corona pandemic and the ban on large events issued by the Swiss Federal Council. Since then, there have been repeated attempts to revive the Salon on Lake Geneva.

Cupra: 270,000 ideas for the DarkRebel 🎥

FUTURE A few months ago, Cupra presented its first virtual show car in Metahype and called on people to develop the DarkRebel according to their own personal ideas and put it online.

More than 270,000 people use the design options via the Hyperconfigurator in the metaverse of the manufacturer - including brand ambassadors such as Alexia Putellas, Marc ter Stegen, Ansu Fati and Daniel Brühl (see gallery). Now, taking some of the ideas into account, the show car is to become reality. Cupra intends to incorporate all the configurations collected into the final design of the DarkRebel.

Cupra DarkRebel
The DarkRebel is an unusual provocation from the Spanish manufacturer.

Brand is pure obsession

Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra: "The DarkRebel is the brand's new provocation, created without the limits of the real world. This show car is for the next generation, designed by a tribe, not an individual. It's a rebel with a purpose, showing that electric cars can be sexy, emotional and even a bit shocking. I believe that Cupra is pure obsession. It's a brand created by people who are fascinated by what they do. The DarkRebel is proof of this passion, pushed to the limits."

Model for the new generation

The two countries with the most configurations are Spain and Germany, and Mexico and Turkey are also in the top ten. There is no information about Switzerland. 74 percent of the entries came from mobile devices - a clear sign for Cupra that the DarkRebel is a vehicle developed by and for the new generation.

Porsche: Even faster on the circuit 🎥

PERFORMANCE Porsche offers a Manthey kit for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS that is specially optimized for use on circuits. The 500-hp car lapped the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring with it in 7:03.121 minutes.

The new kit was developed specifically for track days and in close collaboration between Porsche Motorsport engineers and the Nordschleife specialists at Manthey in Meuspath. The retrofittable, road-legal components are sold through the Porsche Centers.

With the new kit, the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS is exactly 6.179 seconds faster than without. The aerodynamic and chassis components in particular are modified. In addition, brake pads specially designed for circuit racing are also available as an option.

Porsche Cayman GT4 RS
Porsche and Nürburgring specialist Manthey make the Cayman GT4 RS even significantly faster with the new kit.

Almost double contact pressure

At the front, flaps and air curtains with wheel arch gurney and a new carbon underbody with diffusers improve downforce, while the rear wing, which has been widened by 85 millimeters, increases downforce at the rear axle. It is adjustable in four stages. To withstand the increased aerodynamic forces, the body frame of the rear lid has been reinforced with exposed carbon. The aerodiscs on the rear wheels, also made of CfK, reduce turbulence at the rear. At 200 km/h, total downforce increases from 89 to 169 kilograms in the performance position of the rear wing.

Adjustable coilover suspension

The spring struts of the adaptable coilover suspension are four-way adjustable, and the rebound and compression damping can be adjusted without tools. The spring rates on the front axle have been increased by 20 percent. A set of brake lines with steel jackets comes as standard. This guarantees an exact pressure point and thus ensures optimum brake control. The performance is also visually underlined by the optional wheel arch vents made of visible carbon in the front fenders.

The price for the Manthey kit is shown in the accessory finder (tequipment-finder.porsche.com). In Europe, the market launch is planned for December 2023.

WHERE YOU MEET The world's largest 2CV event is currently taking place in the Jura. On 53 hectares of event area near Delémont, 75 years of Döschwo will be celebrated until July 30. 4000 cars are expected.

Citroën 2CV
The French corrugated metal Cadillac is represented in Delémont in all versions

The host of the party 75 years of Döschwo, which in France is often referred to as a corrugated metal Cadillac and in Germany as a duck, is this year the Swiss Jura. For the third time our country will host the largest meeting of the 2CV family. The event has a tradition of almost 50 years. The legendary 2CV, presented 75 years ago, is still very popular among fans. In the first years as a preferred car of students and hippies, the Döschwo developed over time into a well-kept sympathy carrier. Young and old turn their heads when a 2CV drives by.

Jura the center of the 2CV world

The central location and easy accessibility of Switzerland are reasons for the strong participation in the world meeting. The event takes place near Delémont between Courroux, Courrendlin and Val-Terbi. More than 4000 vehicles of all model years are expected. At least 8000 people will be permanently present at the festival site.

Action and many attractions

The fairground is accessible to everyonefree of charge, both for Döschwo drivers and visitors. Everyone is invited to spend a few hours in convivial company. Concerts will be held every day from 3 pm. About 20 food trucks, a main tent and a fondue tent will take care of the visitors' physical well-being. The impressive 2CV fleet can be admired from an observation tower. Animations are provided for children, and daily competitions and games are organized.

Tips for guests and fans: In Delémont, a 2CV museum is open until Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, in the Croisée des Loisirs. A beauty contest will take place every afternoon in the courtyard of the castle of Delémont with different groups of vehicles.

Audi: First kilometers with the Q6 e-tron 🎥

FUTURE Audi has already passed several planned launch dates for the Q6 e-tron. It will be seen uncloaked at the end of the year, and will arrive at dealerships in 2024: Is the wait worth it?

To find out, we traveled to the Faroe Islands, halfway between Scotland and Iceland. Audi invited us to test drive two prototypes of the all-electric SUV; we spent many hours behind the wheel of the Q6 55 e-Tron (295 kW/401 hp) and the SQ6 (380 kW/517 hp).

The newcomer's shape is clearly recognizable even with camouflage, as Audi now largely limits itself to a white foil with pink, red and purple accents. The SUV stands on 21-inch wheels, on which 255 tires are mounted at the front and 285 tires at the rear, and presents itself with a shape that is crossed by sharp lines, tends to be sporty, but ultimately rather inconspicuous and, due to the delays, no longer particularly progressive.

Audi Q6 e-tron
The shape of the Q6 e-tron is clearly recognizable even with camouflage

Octagonal radiator grille

The front headlights are divided into two planes. They flank an octagonal radiator grille. There will also be smaller wheel sizes, starting at 18 inches. From the rear, the Q6 e-Tron looks like the Q4 e-Tron's big brother, which it is. The side view with a D-pillar reminiscent of a shark fin certainly looks coupe-like - although there will also be a Sportback version with a rounder roofline.

Leading lighting technology

A closer look reveals many intelligent details. The lighting units, for example: The optional front matrix LEDs not only cast a glistening, lightning-fast adapted light onto the road, but they can display eight different daytime running light patterns. The same number of patterns can be displayed by the taillights, which feature second-generation OLED technology.

The different variants can be selected not only via the MMI system, but also via a smartphone app, allowing the driver to admire his selection standing right next to the car. Audi is proud to defend its hard-earned leadership in lighting technology; it doesn't get more sophisticated than this.

Perfect controls

The interior can probably keep up as well, but it remained largely hidden under a plastic veil during our test drive. However, the voice control gives hints of next-generation ambient lighting, and the positioning of the buttons and controls is just as perfect as the tactile feedback. The Q6 has a futuristic four-spoke steering wheel, while the SQ6 is equipped with a more conventional-looking three-spoke steering wheel. Incidentally, there was only a simple horn in the prototype. Perhaps Audi can bring itself to install a dual-tone fanfare by the time it is ready for series production.

Chassis and driving feel

The drives are all about the chassis and powertrain, and the driving experience that the Q6 conveys. It stands on the brand-new PPE architecture, which is shared with Porsche's upcoming electric Macan. With a multi-link rear axle and torque vectoring function, as well as the "best pedal feel in its class" i (quote Audi), this SUV is designed for dynamics.

And you can feel it: The steering is quick and precise, the power distribution is rather rear-heavy, the car is remarkably agile in corners, and it's fun to play with the rear when accelerating out.

The car appears much lighter than it actually is. It provides precise information about road conditions, the brakes are easy to dose, and the change from recuperation to hydraulic braking is virtually imperceptible - unlike almost all other electric vehicles currently on offer.

Quiet and low vibration

The SQ model is noticeably firmer than the Q6 e-Tron. However, both versions offer a pleasant range between the comfort and dynamic settings without going too far to the extremes.

The Q6 already has such a strong engine that you don't really need the extra power of the SQ6. Both models are very quiet and low in vibration, and the response to the accelerator pedal is quick, but not as nervous as in the BMW iX, for example. Depending on the model and market, we expect a range of over 600 kilometers as a result of the efficient powertrain and excellent aerodynamics. You can select a one-pedal function, and the Q6 is also well prepared for serious offroading.

Jaguar: V8 sound for the library 🎥

FOR ETERNITY Jaguar is also on the road to an all-electric future. Before that, the British brand handed over sound recordings of the F-Type with V8 engine to the British Library, the country's national library.

The V8 sound was recorded in the semi-absorber chamber of the Gaydon Engineering Centre. The soundproof room is usually used to develop and test the sound design of the vehicles - in other words, the place where the F-Type's exhaust sound was originally tuned.

Jaguar V8 sound F-Type R
The F-Type R 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with all-wheel drive produces 575 hp and develops 700 Nm of torque.

Cuts inside and outside

For the audio document, Jaguar used a special edition "75" F-Type R in Ligurian Black with a satin finish. The coupe was used to perform a series of gearshifts and accelerations, from which the track was produced.

The recordings were made both from the interior and exterior. It is the engine sound of the last Jaguar sports car with internal combustion engine.

Characteristic roars

The recording starts with the engine cranking, which is characterized by an instantly recognizable "flare-up" as the engine speed increases, before settling down to a steady idle of 600 rpm.

Every time the F-Type accelerates, the valves in the exhaust system open and change the exhaust flow. This produces the characteristic roar. You can also hear the shifting noises of the eight-speed quickshift transmission and the characteristic crackle and pop of the four tailpipes.

The F-Type R from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 300 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz: What the new E-Class offers 🎥

FIRST IMPRESSION A new E-Class is always an event. The sixth generation of the touring sedan brings lots of digital gadgets, new safety technology and even more comfort features.

The number one technology driver at Mercedes is, of course, the S-Class. But the E-Class one step down has also always introduced new technologies to the market. In what is now the sixth generation, the new features are, how could it be otherwise, primarily digital in nature.

The basis for this is a new electronics architecture with a powerful central computer that can handle the computing functions of previously separate domains on its own, thus significantly increasing the speed of the data streams. Finally, thanks to artificial intelligence, the car will be able to constantly learn which comfort systems the driver repeatedly uses, for example, and then automate these functions. Until that happens, customers will still have to create everything themselves or use pre-programmed templates.

Mercedes E-Class
For the time being, the new E-Class from Mercedes-Benz is only available with four-cylinder engines.

Business meetings via Zoom

More digital gadgets: Ambient lighting can now respond to and visualize music, you can play Angry Birds on the huge infotainment screen, or share selfies from the interior on TikTok with the internal camera. Because the E-Class is still a business sedan and not a toy, business meetings can also be held via zoom with this camera. While driving, the screen hides the image, but the sound remains available on the road. And if you get motion sickness, the E-Class helps alleviate the symptoms with a corresponding Energizing program.

As handy as a compact car

Of course, the E-Class can also drive, and better than ever. The ride comfort is first-class, especially with the optional air suspension. Thanks to rear-axle steering, the five-meter sedan handles like a compact car, and the peace and quiet on board is as high class as the entire interior. A whole armada of assistance systems supports the driver - the E-Class can now not only follow the lane automatically, but also brake to a standstill in built-up areas and start up again. In addition, the sedan can now change lanes on the highway without the driver's intervention and even turn onto the exit when the navigation is switched on - this feature worked perfectly in the first test, but will not be available here until next year.

Engines deliver 197 to 381 hp

The powertrains are all electrified, either as mild or plug-in hybrids. At the market launch, the E-Class is only available with four-cylinder engines: a gasoline engine with 204 hp, a diesel with 197 hp, and two gasoline plug-in hybrids with 313 hp and 381 hp system output respectively. A six-cylinder gasoline engine and a diesel plug-in will follow later. Swiss prices will be available from mid-August.
