Auto Zurich 2023: Škoda celebrates premiere of the Kodiaq 🎥

FIRST APPEARANCE Škoda Auto recently presented the second generation of the Kodiaq. Now the top version Sportline is celebrating its Swiss premiere at Auto Zürich. It offers new features and even more space.

The new edition of the popular Škoda SUV is expected to impress at Auto Zürich (November 2 to 5 at Messe Oerlikon) with the features that have always been appreciated, such as a generous amount of space, adapted safety and assistance systems and other Simply Clever ideas. Trade show visitors will thus have the opportunity to examine the Kodiaq Sportline top version live already this year.

Markus Kohler, Brand Director Škoda Switzerland: "The new Kodiaq impresses with a sophisticated concept and numerous innovations such as the Smart Dials. These combine haptic control elements with 32-millimeter displays, allowing simple and intuitive operation of the infotainment system."

Škoda Kodiaq
In generation two, the Kodiaq presented itself more elegant and even more spacious.

Sustainability at a new level

The new Kodiaq takes sustainability to a new level and features a freshly designed interior concept. It now offers a 13-inch infotainment display, and the gear selector is now located on the steering column, giving the center console a particularly uncluttered look. In addition, a new offering structure has been developed with Design Selections instead of conventional equipment lines. Recycled textiles and environmentally friendly tanned leather in the interior underscore the brand's commitment to sustainability.

The trunk capacity of the five-seater is now 910 liters - 75 liters more than its predecessor. In the seven-seater, 340 liters remain behind the third row of seats.

Five or seven seats as needed

Three drive options 193 and 204 hp are available for Switzerland. The plug-in engine offered for the first time for the Kodiaq achieves an electric range of more than 100 kilometers. Škoda combines the top 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI units with all-wheel drive as standard, and a dual-clutch transmission is always used for power transmission.

The Kodiaq Sportline includes high-quality equipment features such as LED matrix headlights and electric tailgate operation as standard. Numerous black high-gloss accents dominate the body, and the front and rear aprons and side sills are finished in body color. A polished anthracite finish characterizes the 19-inch alloy wheels used exclusively for the Sportline version.

DTM 2023: Winner relied on suspension from KW

SUCCESS For three years now, racing cars have also been entered in the DTM according to the GT3 regulations. During this time, the motorsport customers of the KW Group have already won the DTM twice with KW V6 Racing dampers.

KW suspension DTM Porsche
2023 was another very successful season for cars with KW Racing suspensions.

While in 2022 Sheldon van der Linde and Schubert Motorsport won the drivers' and teams' championships with the BMW M4 GT3, Thomas Preining (center gallery), Porsche and Manthey EMA are now celebrating winning the drivers', manufacturers' and teams' championships in the 2023 DTM season. In the still young GT3 customer sports history of the DTM, this was the first time that a driver has won pole position and overall victory at both races of a DTM round.

Success for the Porsche 911 GT3 R

The suspension manufacturer develops and manufactures its well-known KW racing dampers and complete suspensions for the customer sports of various automobile manufacturers. Since 2022, KW automotive has also been supplying the solid-piston racing dampers to race cars in the DTM. These are homologated worldwide for all BMW M4 GT3 and Porsche 911 GT3 R. Similar to 2022, when the BMW M4 GT3 successfully completed its first championship under competitive conditions, Porsche repeated this in 2023 with the 911 GT3 R.

Florian Johann from KW Brand Management: "The 2023 season was very successful for our motorsport customers in the DTM. In 13 of 16 races, our customers always finished with at least one race car among the top 3. Of the total of 28 race cars in the DTM, we equipped four BMW M4 GT3 and six Porsche 911 GT3 R with the V6 racing dampers."

Coilovers for aftermarket

The suspension manufacturer also always adapts the KW-automotive Group's developments for motorsport for its coilovers on the aftermarket and accessories market. Thus, all KW coilovers that can be manually adjusted in the damper characteristics are based on developments from motorsport. More than 40 engineers, designers and technicians work at KW's headquarters in Fichtenberg, Germany, on chassis development alone for the selected small series of the automotive industry, motorsport and the independent aftermarket.

Porsche: The Swabians focus on e-performance 🎥

THERE'S STILL MORE The Cayenne from Porsche is getting two new plug-in hybrid versions. In addition to plenty of power and enhanced driving dynamics, the large SUV now also offers a longer electric range.

Porsche drivers also have to get used to electrification. The all-electric Taycan will soon be joined by the E-Macan, while the Panamera sedan and the large Cayenne SUV have long been available with plug-in hybrid drive. It is clear that the sports car models will soon be electrified as well - starting with the entry-level 718 series, which is expected to be available with electric drive from 2025.

Porsche E-Performance
The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupé with GT package is the top model in the range.

Engines with six or eight cylinders

The recently revised Cayenne will continue to be equipped with six- or eight-cylinder engines - but the Swabians are now expanding the range to include two even more powerful plug-in variants alongside the plug-in E-Hybrid model with a system output of 462 hp. The new S E-Hybrid combines the revised 3-liter V6 turbo gasoline engine with a 130 kW (176 hp) electric motor to generate a system output of 519 hp. This enables the 4.92-meter SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The new Turbo E-Hybrid goes one better: It combines a 4-liter V8 biturbo engine with the identical electric motor to generate a system output of 739 hp. The new top model thus sprints to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

High-voltage battery now outputs 25.9 kWh

All three e-hybrid models use a new electric motor integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission that can convert 30 percent more deceleration power into electrical energy in generator mode - recuperation is performed with an output of up to 88 kW. The transition from recuperation deceleration to mechanical braking is refined by a new brake booster, which ensures better dosage.

In addition, there is a larger high-voltage battery, which now has an energy content of 25.9 kWh and enables a longer electric range. The S E-Hybrid is thus said to be able to cover up to 78 kilometers on pure electric power, the Turbo E-Hybrid up to 73 kilometers (both according to WLTP). A new on-board charger (11 kW AC) shortens the charging process to less than two and a half hours.

Turbo with GT package and carbon roof

All plug-in variants of the Cayenne are available for both the SUV and the SUV Coupé. Prices start at 135,200 Swiss francs for the S E-Hybrid (Coupé: 140,300 Swiss francs), while the Turbo E-Hybrid costs from 203,100 Swiss francs (Coupé: 207,300 Swiss francs). Those who like it even sportier can order the Turbo with the GT package (Coupé only), which offers, among other things, a carbon roof, a body lowered by ten millimeters, and a ceramic brake system. The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupé with GT package is available from 240,200 Swiss francs.

Swiss teams: Many points and some bad luck 🎥

SCHADE Ricardo Feller didn't stand a chance against new champion Thomas Preining at the DTM finale in Hockenheim this weekend. But Feller can still be proud of third place overall.

It wasn't meant to be. Ricardo Feller's chances of winning the DTM title vanished into thin air after the first race at the finale in Hockenheim. Thomas Preining, the leader of the overall standings, was too strong. The Austrian in the Manthey Porsche not only won both races in Baden, he was also on pole position in both races and thus confidently secured his first DTM title ahead of Mirko Bortolotti.

DTM Hockenheim Final 2023
Ricardo Feller will be competing in the DTM next year with ABT and Red Bull.

Audis in Red Bull livery

For Feller, who finished 4th and 9th in the last two races, a successful season in the DTM came to an end with 3rd place. As the only driver besides the new champion Preining, the man from Aargau finished in the points in every race. Feller will also compete in the DTM for Team ABT Sportsline in 2024. On Friday before the finale, Abbots presented their two new Audis in Red Bull livery for the coming season

First victory for Alain Valente

Nevertheless, there was a Swiss victory in Baden. Alain Valente secured his first victory alongside Ralf Aron in the ADAC GT Masters (gallery on the right) in the last race of the season. In the first race, the driver from Bern finished second. With the two top results, the Mercedes driver still managed to jump to second place overall. The title went to the duo Seppänen/Owega.

The two final races of the 2023 DTM season were hard to beat in terms of excitement for Emil Frey Racing. Both Ferrari 296 GT3s were involved in many duels and even if they were ultimately unable to bring the hoped-for results to the finish line, the Swiss team secured the important Pitstop Challenge for the team with the fastest pit stops over the entire season in its debut season. The Emil Frey Racing drivers ultimately finished in 7th and 11th place.

Léna Bühler is vice champion

Léna Bühler (left in the gallery) was also delighted with second place overall. The Vaud native finished her first season in the Formula 1 Academy, an F4 racing series for women, as runner-up. At the season finale at the Circuit oft he Americas in Austin, Bühler finished 3rd, 2nd and 4th. The Sauber Academy driver secured two victories and a total of 13 podium finishes over the course of the season. Another Swiss also celebrated on the podium this weekend. After winning the Ladies Trophy in Italian Formula 4, Tina Hausmann secured the same title in Euro 4.

Jasin Ferati also celebrated a perfect end to the season in the Porsche Carrera Cup (center gallery): The 20-year-old from Winterthur advanced to 10th place in the final race at the Hockenheimring and claimed two more podium places among the rookies.

Louis Delétraz misses title

Swiss drivers and teams were also on the grid at the ELMS finale in Portimão. However, with varying degrees of success. Louis Delétraz (3rd in the end) missed out on the ProAM title, as did Alexandre Coigny with Cool Racing (2nd). Neel Jani also failed to finish higher than 5th and 10th in the finale.

Albert Tamm also achieved another international respectable success. The Swiss karting champion in the Super Minis took third place in the 51st edition of the Trofeo delle Industrie in Lonato (I). Tamm has already been on the podium this year at the Trofeo Margutti as second and at the WSK in Sarno (as first).

Porsche: Final spurt in the anniversary year 🎥

SPECIAL EXHIBITION For 75 years, sports cars from Zuffenhausen have been inspiring people all over the world. In its anniversary year, Porsche is celebrating the brand's long success story at the Stuttgart Museum. It is well worth a visit.

The year 2023 is particularly important for Porsche. The 911 is celebrating its 60th birthday, and the brand is looking back on "75 years of Porsche sports cars. True fans of the model are celebrating June 8, 1948, the day the Porsche 356 No. 1 Roadster received its general operating license.

Achim Stejskal, Head of Porsche Heritage and Museum: "Never before have so many guests visited our museum in one month as in August 2023. We were able to welcome more than 70,000 visitors. It is already becoming apparent that 2023 will be the second-best year so far since opening in January 2009."

75 years Porsche
Achim Stejskal: "In August 2023, more than 70,000 visitors visited the museum."

Digital 360 degree tour

The current special anniversary exhibition is the most extensive to date. Until January 7, 2024, the Porsche Museum invites visitors on a journey through 75 years of brand history. A journey through yesterday, today and tomorrow, on which guests will encounter not only many technologies but also many dreamers - people who stand behind the brand. For all those who are unable to visit the museum in Zuffenhausen or would like to enjoy the anniversary exhibition from their living room for a second time, the Porsche also offers a digital 360-degree tour.

Special tours for children

The museum not only invites adults on a journey through the history of the brand. There are also two new tours for children, each with six adventure stations that are part of the permanent exhibition. Girls and boys can choose between two stories on the Porsche 4Kids discovery tours. For test driver Tom Targa, everything revolves around an upcoming race for which he still wants to build a sports car. Development engineer Tina Turbo, on the other hand, is traveling to an ideas competition for which she has to pack her creative suitcase. On both tours, there are search tasks to be mastered, puzzles to be solved, playful experimentation and learning to be done. Between October 28 and November 5, Porsche is offering free guided tours for children.

Day of people with disabilities

On December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a theme week with the same title comes to an end at the Porsche Museum. From November 28 to December 3, people with a severely disabled ID and their accompanying persons not only have free admission during opening hours, but they can also take part in free guided tours with specially trained guides.

KW automotive: More driving dynamics for the Honda NSX

TUNING The KW V5 coilover suspension is now available for all Honda NSX and NSX Type S produced from 2016 to 2022. Within the scope of the parts certificate, this lowers the hybrid sports car by up to 25 millimeters.

KW coilover suspension Honda NSX
KW has adapted the suspension to the increased curb weight of the Honda NSX.

The myth of the Honda NSX began at the end of the eighties. It was the birth of a sports car that was then the first production car with a self-supporting aluminum body. In the Honda NSX sports car segment around the Audi R8, Mercedes-AMG GT and Porsche 911, the new version produced from 2016 to 2022 was the first production model with combined drive technology with a 3-liter biturbo V6 and three electric motors. While the two predecessor models were still relatively light with kerb weights of 1392 to 1460 kilograms, the hybrid NSX with electric motors and all-wheel drive has a comparatively high kerb weight of 1772 kilograms despite carbon components.

Power adjustable chassis

To counteract the weight handicap of modern sports cars and the high spring rates therefore used in the standard suspension, KW automotive has developed the four-way performance-adjustable KW V5 coilover suspension for the Honda NSX. In contrast to conventional monotube and twin-tube dampers, the suspension manufacturer relies on its solid-piston technology for the damper design.

KW Brand Manager Florian Johann: "Simply put, our damper hydraulics can generate much greater forces. This provides more support for the entire vehicle body, eliminating the need for an overly high spring rate."

Lowering up to 25 millimeters

The KW V5 with its solid piston dampers are displacement pistons. The piston displaces the oil column directly into the valve housing, where the damper fluid flows through the low-speed needle valves and high-speed wave valves. Thanks to the adjustable multi-valve technology, the KW V5 dampens bumps and large transverse joints cleanly. The installation of the aluminum struts already lowers the hybrid sports car by ten millimeters. The lowering can then be adjusted by a further 15 millimeters via the adjustable spring plates, making the Honda NSX 25 millimeters lower than standard. Price on request.

Nissan: Travel like in the living room 🎥

COMFORT MINIVAN At the Japan Mobility Show, Nissan is showcasing the Hyper family, a range of new all-electric concept vehicles. Among them is the Nissan Hyper Tourer, which is designed for travel.

With the Hyper Tourer concept vehicle, Nissan is focusing on the shared travel experience. The all-electric minivan is aimed at a clientele that wants to combine the comfort of a living room with the convenience of a car - whether on a vacation road trip or a business trip. V2X technology and the powerful battery also enable it to power homes, commercial premises and offices.

Nissan Hyper Tourer
The Nissan Hyper Tourer already shows the future with every detail of its body.

Traditional Japanese aesthetics

The exterior appearance of the Hyper Tourer looks quite exotic. With its smooth body surfaces and striking lines, it is meant to convey traditional Japanese aesthetics and ensure that the vehicle blends in with its surroundings.

The diagonal lines from front to rear provide optimum aerodynamics. Headlights and signal lights are integrated into the white shoulder line. The interior is based on Nissan's EV Technology Vision and combines compact drive components with a solid-state battery. The e-4orce all-wheel drive system provides smooth and steady acceleration.

Front seats rotate 360 degrees

Thanks to the Hyper Tourer's autonomous driving capabilities, the driver can concentrate on his fellow passengers. The front seats swivel 360 degrees, allowing all passengers to comfortably converse with each other. Travelers in the rear can remotely control navigation and audio functions on the central display in the dashboard, which should provide a special sense of community. An artificial intelligence system also measures passengers' biometric characteristics and then selects music to match their mood.
