Automobile market in Switzerland: Excellent year 2016

The car market in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein closed 2016 significantly better than expected. With 317,318 new passenger cars, the result is clearly above the 305,000 units expected by auto-schweiz. Compared to the previous year, 2016 closed with a slight decrease of 6,465 new registrations or 2.0 percent. All-wheel drive and diesel achieved new record market shares, [...].

The car market in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein ended 2016 significantly better than expected. With 317,318 new passenger cars, the result is well above the 305,000 units expected by auto-schweiz. Compared to the previous year, 2016 closed with a slight decrease of 6,465 new registrations or 2.0 percent. All-wheel drive and diesel achieved new record market shares, while alternative drive systems also made gains. This was reported by the Association of Swiss Automobile Importers auto-schweiz.
