Classics Cars & Bikes: How things are going at Albisgütli 2024

WHERE TO MEET The Albisgütli Classics Cars & Bikes looks back on a successful 2023. This year, however, renovation work in the ballroom is forcing the Classic Car Meet on the Uetliberg to change its program.

Albisgütli Classics Cars
Renovation work at Albisgüetli creates difficult conditions for Classics Cars & Bikes 2024

After last year's successful event on October 1 - with an absolute record number of visitors and vehicles - the Albisgütli Classics Cars & Bikes will have to overcome various hurdles this year. From April to August, renovation work will be taking place in the ballroom of the Albisgütli Inn. This will also affect the area around the Gasthaus Albisgütli and the parking lots. As a result, access and exit routes will not be guaranteed as desired and therefore no Classic Car events can be held during the renovation phase.

October 6, 2024 has been set

Nevertheless, Albisgütli Classics Cars & Bikes will be welcoming all fans and friends of classic vehicles to the Albisgütli Inn on Sunday, October 6, with a big party. The date of the event can therefore already be entered in the diary. Further information about the Albisgütli Classics Cars & Bikes on October 6 will be provided at a later date. In any case, the organizers wish you a good start to the new classic car season.

Fiat: Five car concepts in one go 🎥

A RANGE OF VARIANTS Fiat offers a glimpse into the future. Five concept vehicles have been created on a new global platform that can respond to all regional requirements with electric, hybrid and combustion engines.

Fiat is preparing for an even more sustainable future. The focus is on newly developed vehicles, the first of which will be launched in July 2024, followed by another one every year thereafter. Thanks to its integration into the Stellantis Group, Fiat has access to the shared global platform.

Fiat concept cars
Fiat optimizes model strategy and production with new platform concept.

First model for the 125th birthday

Fiat CEO Olivier François: "A family of concept cars inspired by the Panda provides a first glimpse of future models. Fiat is a global brand and we are becoming increasingly global. The next step in our product strategy is therefore to move from local products to a global offering. We will present the first new model as early as next July as part of the brand's 125th anniversary celebrations."

Sustainable, more affordable models

Fiat is meeting the challenge of building more sustainable and affordable cars with a "less is more" approach. The engineers are dispensing with superfluous components and reducing the use of environmentally critical materials. There is also a strong focus on modular construction. The new models share up to 80 percent of the components, particularly in the interior. This strategy also leads to significant price advantages for customers.

The concept vehicles at a glance

The city car is slightly larger than the current Fiat Panda. Its design is inspired by the former Lingotto plant. The oval shape of the test track on the roof also influenced some of the design details in the interior. The second model is a pick-up. It focuses on fun and functionality and combines the versatility of a pick-up with the utility value of a van.

The saloon show car combines sustainability with sportiness. The body is not only aerodynamically efficient, it also radiates more youthfulness. The fourth concept vehicle is an SUV for the whole family. It meets high standards of safety, versatility and design and offers families a large amount of space and pronounced robustness. Concept car number five is an all-rounder that embodies the typical Italian dolce vita style and is designed to bring people closer to nature.

GIMS 2024: The e-revolutionary from Renault 🎥

PIONEER OF THE TURNAROUND The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is an important new model in the small electric car segment. With its ultra-modern design, the new model recalls the versatility and economy of the original Renault 5.

The new Renault 5 E-Tech Electric has a special significance. It stands for the industrial renewal and transformation of the Renault brand towards electromobility. The production model retains the charm of the concept car presented in January 2021. Renault intends to develop a whole range of attractive electric models on its new AmpR platform for small electric vehicles. At this year's Geneva International Motorshow (GIMS), which takes place in the halls of Palexpo until March 3, 2024, the French car, which is very popular in Switzerland, will celebrate its world premiere.

Renault 5 E-Tech Electric
At just 3.92 meters long, the Renault E-Tech Electric lies between the Twingo and Clio.

A breath of fresh air on offer

When the Renault 5 came onto the market in 1972, it brought a breath of fresh air to the model range and symbolized freedom and joie de vivre. Now this icon is to be revived with the electric new edition. The design team had plenty of leeway. With its bright paintwork, striking fenders and colorful roof design, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is reminiscent of its trend-setting predecessor.

Under the hood of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is a compact separately excited synchronous motor, which is available in three power levels: 70, 90 and 110 kW. With the 52 kWh battery, the electric R5 achieves a WLTP range of up to 400 kilometers. The car is also coupled with a bidirectional AC charger that is compatible with the V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2G (vehicle-to-grid) systems.

Answers are provided by "Hey Reno"

The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric features the new-generation OpenR-Link system with integrated Google, more than 50 apps and practical services. The new R 5 is the brand's first model to have the interactive avatar Reno on board as an intelligent travel companion. It responds to questions and commands by saying "Hey Reno". And of course, the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric also has many driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control and Active Driver Assist.

Production starts in summer 2024

Production of the R5 electric will start in summer 2024, batteries from summer 2025 from France. The vehicle and battery will be assembled at the Douai plant, one of the production sites of the original Renault 5. The electric motor, reduction gearbox and power electronics will be manufactured in Cléon, while the battery cells will be produced in the Douai Gigafactory as part of the partnership with Envision AESC.

WEC: Nico Müller feels stronger than ever before

Tough assignment An exciting season begins in Qatar for the Peugeot Total Energies team, with nine manufacturers and 19 hypercars taking part. That is a record number in the highly competitive series.

WEC Nico Müller
Peugeot driver Nico Müller is eagerly awaiting the start of the season in Qatar.

With a race duration of around ten hours on the 5.38-kilometre Lusail International Circuit, the opening race of the 2024 FIA WEC season on March 2, 2024 in Qatar is a major challenge. Not only will the race put drivers and cars to the test, but also the tires due to the weather conditions, which should not be underestimated. In the off-season, the team faced a double challenge: further developing the Peugeot 9X8 and keeping to the 2024 schedule in order to be ready in time for Imola in April.

Reliability is a key factor

Olivier Jansonnie, Technical Director of Peugeot Sport (gallery left): "We are expecting a tough race. Reliability will be a key factor, but we have the advantage of knowing that the 2023 car is a proven car that proved reliable at Fuji and Bahrain at the end of last year."

At Peugeot Sport, the team members can prepare for the new season in the simulator, with all six drivers taking turns behind the wheel.

Jean-Marc Finot, Senior Vice President Stellantis Motorsport: "The final uncertainty is the Balance of Performance (BoP) between the different cars on the grid. The Peugeot 9X8 that will be on the grid in Qatar is identical to the car that was used in the last races of the 2023 season. The BoP should therefore bring the 9X8 closer to the performance of the top contenders. We want to try and compete for the top positions."

Nico Müller starts with the number 93

Swiss Peugeot driver Nico Müller says: "Qatar promises to be an intense and exciting race. We have all worked hard over the winter and everyone in the team is very motivated. We can hardly wait to get started now. From a physical point of view, my preparation has been very good and I feel even stronger than before. The decision to change the composition of the teams was mainly about setup preferences related to the driving style of the drivers."

Insights from the past season

The aim for the #93 car, driven by Mikkel Jensen, Nico Müller and Jean-Eric Vergne, and the #94 car, driven by Paul Di Resta, Loïc Duval and Stoffel Vandoorne, will be to learn from last season and get the best out of the Peugeot 9X8 2023 before it is replaced by the 2024 version at the next race in Imola (April 21).
