Mercedes-AMG: G 63 for the anniversary as Edition 55

EXCLUSIVE Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its AMG sports division with a special model of the G-Class. The high-performance SUV has been given numerous exquisite equipment features to mark the anniversary.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 becomes the anniversary model Edition 55 with an extensive equipment package.

For 55 years, AMG has been synonymous worldwide with special automotive performance, exclusivity and distinctive driving dynamics. The G-Class has also enjoyed a unique position in the AMG portfolio for more than two decades, making it the king of off-road performance. This cult status makes the model the ideal ambassador to ring in the 55th anniversary of the performance brand.

From 1967 to the present day, AMG has grown from a two-man company into a modern development site with its own engine manufacturing facility for performance vehicles and more than 2,000 qualified employees. The same applies to the G-Class, which has remained true to itself over the course of its career for more than four decades. And it is to continue together in the direction of electromobility.

Forged wheels in matt tantalum gray and Night package
With particularly exquisite equipment details, the Mercedes AMG G 63 Edition 55 special model underscores AMG's claim to offer customers the highest possible level of individuality and exclusivity. The special model is available in Obsidian Black metallic or G-Manufaktur Opalite White paint. Contrast is provided by the 22-inch forged wheels in matt tantalum gray and the AMG Night package.

Steel door sill trims with illuminated lettering
The interior is characterized by the contrast of black and red. Stainless steel door sill trims with red illuminated AMG lettering greet the driver. The performance steering wheel in microfiber Dinamica also commemorates the birthday with the AMG and 55 badges. The powertrain of the Mercedes AMG G 63 consists of a 4-liter V8 biturbo engine (850 Nm, 585 hp), 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (40:60) with three differential locks.

The exclusive special model can be ordered now with the AMG Edition 55 equipment package at a surcharge of 21,000 Swiss francs.

Auction Toffen: The fast way to the oldie

WHERE TO MEET The Toffen spring auction has been part of the start of the season for many classic car and youngtimer enthusiasts for many years, just like redeeming the classic car or planning the first tours.

Auction Toffen
The 1981 Fiat Ritmo 75 Group 2 FIA CT33 is offered at an estimated price of between 25,000 and 30,000 francs.

On Saturday, March 26, 2022, the time has come again and the specialists from Toffen have put together an interesting portfolio of younger and older classics. Their total value has been estimated at 3.071 million Swiss francs, with an average of 34,506 Swiss francs expected per vehicle.

This time there is even a car as a boat
Among the 89 vehicles offered there are 30 open cars and 25 coupes. The rest is distributed among bicycles, bikes and even a Citroën 2CV converted into a boat is offered.

On average, the vehicles are 50 years old, but the age spectrum is wider than this average age would suggest. At the other end of the age spectrum, there are 15 cars that are less than 30 years old. Among the youngtimers, a dozen cars are called up.

34 percent of lots are sold without a minimum price
Triumph, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo and Ford are the brands most strongly represented; a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL, two Dodge/Chrysler Vipers and three Citroëns, as well as a Lancia Delta Integrale, are sure to generate a great deal of interest. Thirty-four percent of the lots will be offered with no reserve price. Four vehicles, including a penny-farthing and a workhorse, are over 120 years old. In addition, there will be four other pre-war automobiles and one pre-war motorcycle.

Livestream on the day of the auction from 1:30 p.m.

KW Automotive: More range through lowering?

FAHRWERK-TUNING Aftermarket companies such as suspension manufacturer KW Automotive are also benefiting from the ongoing electric car boom. Two new coilover suspensions are now available for the Cupra Born.

Coilover suspension
With the new coilovers for electric cars, lowering by up to 45 millimeters is possible.

More and more people are buying an electric car. KW Automotive, the suspension manufacturer specializing in the aftermarket, also wants to benefit from this boom. That is why KW is now also developing coilovers for electric vehicles.

The manually adjustable V3 coilover suspension and the adaptive DDC plug&play coilover suspension are now available for the new Cupra Born.

Lowering is possible up to 45 millimeters
Within the scope of the parts certificate, the Born can be lowered by 20 to 45 millimeters with the height-adjustable coilovers. While the KW V3 can be tuned manually in terms of damping, the DDC plug&play with its electric damper control is recommended for all Born models that have the optional DCC standard chassis control.

KW Brand Manager Florian Johann: "Since our DDC suspensions are compatible with the DCC damper control used by the VAG Group, the various driving modes that influence damping can still be used. The less unsteadiness in the body structure, the less the ESP has to regulate, for example."

Chassis damper with multi-valve technology
In KW's best-selling aftermarket suspension, the coilover version 3, the dampers differ from conventional suspension dampers in that KW uses multi-valve technology. This means that the damping of the suspension can be adjusted individually by hand.

Florian Johann: "The more harmoniously an electric car is damped, the sooner the range can also benefit. In the Tesla Model 3, for example, specialists achieved an increase of seven percent in this area by installing our coilover suspension."

Aston Martin: Almost like a Formula 1 bolide

STRONG SHOW The new Valkyrie hypercar model from Aston Martin offers driving performance that comes close to a Formula 1 car. The ultra-fast vehicle made its first major appearance before the F1 GP in Bahrain.

Aston Martin Valkyrie
The Aston Martin Valkyrie offers a driving experience from another world.

The environment of the F1 opening race in Bahrain provided the ideal stage (see report) for the first public dynamic appearance of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. The car is designed to show what is possible in racing and sports cars.

The focus is of course on the free-suction 6.5-liter V12, which delivers a good 1,000 hp at 11,000 rpm. But the aerodynamics have also been optimized so that they are now said to be as sophisticated as in Le Mans cars.

All in all, the Valkyrie AMR Pro is able to come close to Formula 1 cars with its driving performance, the manufacturers state.

Perfect car with a super sound

At the appearance in Bahrain, Dirk Müller sat behind the wheel of the fast Aston Martin: "That was incredible. The car comes closer to Formula 1 performance than any other car I've driven. The power, the handling, the grip, everything is perfect."

Since V12 engines have not been used in Formula 1 for a long time, the sound of the Valkyrie's Cosworth V12 also brought back memories of times past for fans.

Driving experience on different slopes
For future owners of one of the 40 Valkyries, Aston Martin will be offering a special driving experience on various race tracks from next fall. The program includes circuits such as Yas Marina, Silverstone, Nürburgring, Fuji and Austin.

Porsche: Drive subscription at your whim

MOBILITY AS WISHED The Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer is expanding its offering in Switzerland and is now offering the option of renting used vehicles from all model series at a monthly package price.

Porsche subscription
With the Drive subscription, flexible use of a Porsche model becomes possible in a new way.

The new Porsche Drive Abo service with terms of one month to one year closes the gap between daily and weekly Porsche Drive Rental and classic leasing. The provider is Porsche Financial Services Schweiz AG in cooperation with the car subscription platform Carify.

Ronnie Sukheswala, CEO Porsche Financial: "Customers' mobility needs change depending on where they live, their job, or the time of year. Flexibility and individuality are becoming increasingly important. Porsche Drive Subscription makes it possible to enjoy an open-top 911 in summer and a Cayenne in winter."

Packages between 1000 and 3750 kilometers
With a 30-day notice period, Porsche Drive Abo offers minimum contract periods of one, three, six, and twelve months. Packages between 1000 and 3750 kilometers of mileage per month are available, which the customer can change on a monthly basis. The high flexibility in terms of term and mileage is complemented by a monthly package price that covers almost all costs without a start-up fee.

In addition to rent, taxes and comprehensive insurance with a 1000 franc deductible, this also includes services such as maintenance, wear and tear, repairs, and summer and winter tires. Only the costs for gasoline and charging current are not included in the subscription price.

Prerequisite is minimum age of 25 years
While a participating Porsche Center issues the vehicle, provides technical support, and acts as the contractual partner, booking and payment by credit card are made entirely online in the Porsche portal of Carify.

Requirements for booking Porsche Drive Abo include a minimum age of 25 years, a residence in Switzerland, and a positive credit check, which is carried out online by Carify. Commercial customers can also use Porsche Drive Abo.

Nissan: The GT-R is too loud for Europe

ABSCHIED Nissan has taken its iconic GT-R sports car off the market in Europe. The reason is EU regulations. It is no longer worthwhile for the Japanese to subject the sports car to acoustic castration. Too bad.

Nissan GT-R
For automotive culture, the end of the Nissan GT-R in Europe is a significant break.

With the GT-R, which is very popular in Switzerland, one of Europe's most fascinating sports cars is disappearing. Launched in 2008, the two-door model produces 570 hp or 600 hp, depending on the version. Its rear-drive all-wheel drive ensures outstanding lateral dynamics, while the exemplary aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.26, enable a top speed of 315 km/h.

Top category sports car
The history of the Nissan GT-R goes back to 1964. Back then, a Nissan 2000GT took the lead from a Porsche 904 at the Grand Prix in Japan. The 1988 R32 Skyline GT-R, nicknamed "Godzilla," established the GT-R as a top-tier sports car.

Some enthusiasts import the car even then, but with the current generation there was for the first time a left-hand drive, with which Europe and North America could also be officially served from the factory. Outside the EU, the Nissan GT-R continues to be offered.

Audi: First appearance of the A6 Avant e-tron in Geneva 🎥

CAN IT BE A LITTLE SMALLER? So far, Audi has focused on specialties in the e-tron program. The focus has been on sports cars and bulky SUVs, but soon battery operation will also be available in conventional model series.

The A6 Avant is to be launched as an e-tron in 2024. The Ingolstadt-based company is now showing what the business liner will look like with a concept car that largely features the lines of the upcoming electric station wagon in the upper mid-size class.

A6 Avant e-Tron
In just under two years, the production model at the Geneva Motor Show is expected to herald the new era of high-performance electric vehicles.

Premium Platform Electric for E-models
The concept is based on the new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, which will also form the basis for the other electrically powered models from next year.

The A6 study is 4.96 meters long, 1.96 meters wide and 1.44 meters high. As usual, the four rings emphasize width, with the nose and flanks playing with abandon in the third dimension. The interplay of light and shadow gives the Avant Concept a pronounced dynamism.

Low drag coefficient of 0.24
The striking roof edge spoiler is a striking feature, which together with other measures such as a clad underbody and precisely calculated airflow guides and rear diffuser ensures a particularly low drag coefficient. It will be 0.24, 0.2 points below that of the previous aerodynamics champion Sportback.

The brand has already done very little to counter the airstream in the past. The Audi 100 was the record holder in the 1980s, and the futuristic aluminum A2 compact car scored points with a cw value of just 0.25.

Striking aluminum line on the edge of the roof
The long wheelbase allows the installation of a particularly powerful battery. An aluminum line at the edge of the roof also makes the A6 Avant look flatter than it actually is. Meanwhile, the study creates its individual appearance with the narrow LED headlights, whose daytime running lights will be individually adjustable.

Turning lights and roadway lights, which project the intended direction of travel of the vehicle in front of it on the ground, are intended to be an effective tool for pedestrian protection.

System works with a voltage of 800 volts
The Ingolstadt company chose the station wagon because it is the bestseller in the A6 series in many markets. Its electric drive concept provides for a total output of 270 kW (367 hp). The system operates at a voltage of 800 volts and can also be combined with all-wheel drive technology.

The lithium battery has a capacity of 100 kWh. The battery can be recharged at fast chargers in 20 minutes, during which time it goes from five to 80 percent of its storage capacity. At a 22 kW wallbox, it should be possible to refresh the capacity to 100 percent in less than eight hours.

However, the A6 is not fundamentally transforming into an electric vehicle. There will continue to be parallel offerings with classic combustion engines because the growth rates of electromobility do not reach such steep sales rates in all markets as they do in Switzerland.
