Hill climb: The fastest of La Roche - La Berra 🎥

AS HAPPENED Eric Berguerand has also secured the day's victory in the race cars at the second hill climb for the 2022 Swiss Championship from La Roche to La Berra. Reto Meisel remains the benchmark in the touring car category.

Just like at the season opener in Hemberg, Eric Berguerand made everything clear in the first run of the second weekend of the 2022 Swiss Mountain Championship. The Valais native rode up the 3.5-kilometer course from La Roche to La Berra in a fabulous 1:39.721 min. Not only was he almost four seconds faster than in his personal record run in 2015 (1:43.553 min), he distanced his two biggest rivals Robin Faustini and Marcel Steiner (center gallery, photo: Hänggi) by two and a half and more than three seconds respectively.

The garage owner from Martigny (VS) was also the fastest in the second run. In 1:42.698 min, however, the six-time Swiss mountain champion took it very easy by his standards. Nevertheless, this run was also enough to finish half a second ahead of Steiner and Faustini.

Asked about his secret, the Lola driver explained, "It's the result of work and discipline. The car really drives very well. I'm very satisfied. And, like now in La Roche, I can also drive without any stress in a second run."

Successful trio remains at the top
The fact that the third race run could not be held for more than half of the field due to time constraints (including an oil spill shortly before the end of the event) is regrettable. But had no influence on the day's victory. The day's victory was secured by Berguerand in the addition of the first two runs sovereign before Robin Faustini and Marcel Steiner. So it was the same three riders at the top as last time in Hemberg.

Comeback for Joël Grand and Joël Volluz
Behind the top 3, Joël Grand (gallery left, photo: Cornevaux) secured fourth overall. The Valais native had already put in a strong performance at Hemberg, driving his Osella PA21 powered by a 999 cc motorcycle engine up the mountain in 1:48.548 and 1:49.916 min respectively. For him it was the best result in the overall classification so far. As a week earlier in Toggenburg, he was a touch faster than Michel Zemp on his 2-liter Norma.

Joël Volluz also made a comeback. However, the winner of the last hill climb from La Roche to La Berra in 2015 for the time being had to pack it in after just one run because a clutch problem arose on his Osella FA30. "And this one," says Volluz, "I couldn't solve before!"

Final accounting of the touring car drivers
In the formula cars up to 2000 cm3, victory went to Christian Balmer. The Bernese had laid the foundation for this with two very solid runs and nestled himself in the final standings between the fastest touring car drivers Reto Meisel (Mercedes SLK 340) and Roger Schnellmann (Mitsubishi Evo 8). Behind the two fastest touring car drivers Meisel and Schnellmann, Romeo Nüssli (gallery right, photo: Cornevaux) took 3rd place on his Ford Escort Cosworth.

... and here the winners of the other classes
In the Interswiss up to 1600 cm3 Christoph Mattmüller won on VW Scirocco. In the class up to 2000 cm3 Jürg Ochsner (Opel Kadett C) secured the biggest trophy. In the 2.5-liter class, it was Armin Banz (also Opel Kadett C) who came out on top. And in the highest-displacement IS cars, Christoph Zwahlen (Porsche GT3 Cup) came out on top.

The E1 up to 1600 cm3 was once again dominated by Martin Bürki. Victory in the field with the largest number of participants, the E1 up to 2000 cm3, went to Sébastien Coquoz (Opel Kadett C) ahead of Reto Steiner (Ford Escort) and Daniel Kammer (Honda Civic).

In the Renault Classic Cup, Denis Wolf (Renault Clio 3) triumphed as in Hemberg. Jürg Brunner prevailed in the older 2 Series models. Speaking of Wolf and Bürki: After two runs, the two are the only drivers with the maximum points in the Mountain Cup.

The video of the Hunwiler Racing Team from the second race round shows which route the drivers had to master from La Roche to La Berra.

This is how it continues:

  • July 23 and 24 Ayent - Anzère
  • 19 to 21 August St.Ursanne - Les Rangiers
  • August 27 and 28 Oberhallau
  • September 10 and 11, Gurnigel

DTM: First victory for Ricardo Feller 🎥

IT HAS PAID OFF Last weekend was dominated internationally by Ricardo Feller's first DTM triumph. But the man from Aargau was not the only Swiss to shine.

It took Ricardo Feller five races in the DTM. In the sixth, he stood at the top for the first time. And according to Audi driver Feller, this victory was definitely one of his greatest in his still young career.

The 22-year-old from Aargau experienced a roller coaster of emotions in Imola. On Saturday, in the first race, he retired with a puncture. On Sunday, he first took pole position and then his first race win.

Ricardo Feller: "I dreamed of winning DTM races when I was a little boy." Photos: DTM

A dream come true for Ricardo Feller
However, he had to fight hard for it - first against Felipe Fraga in the much faster Ferrari on the straights and then against his brand colleague Dev Gore (gallery left and center).

Ricardo Feller: "As a little boy, I dreamed of winning DTM races. Now I've done it. It feels very good - awesome! A huge thanks to the whole team - the guys did a great job. My car was fantastic all weekend. I'm incredibly proud to be part of this great team."

Nico Müller No. 3 in the overall standings

For brand colleague Nico Müller (right gallery), the weekend at Imola ended with second place on Saturday and eighth on Sunday:

Nico Müller: "P2 was the maximum. I actually only had one chance to take the lead: That was right after the start. But René Rast defended the lead hard but fairly. On Sunday I was only 13th on the grid with the extra weight, but at least I was still able to score a few points."

For the third DTM Swiss, the weekend in Imola ended with a 15th-place finish. In the second race, Lamborghini driver Rolf Ineichen retired after a collision. In the overall standings, Müller is in third place, while Feller is now sixth. South African Sheldon van der Linde is in the lead.

Third race win for Raffaele Marciello
There was another Swiss winner at the GT World Challenge in Zandvoort .Raffaele Marciello defended his overall lead in the Sprint Cup despite a puncture (and 23rd place) in the first race.

The Mercedes works driver from Ticino secured his third race win of the season in the second round on Sunday and thus continues to lead the championship. Audi driver Patzric Niederhauser Patric Niederhauser had to settle for 5th and 7th place.

Joshua Dufeki with top 10 finishes
Joshua Dufek put an exclamation mark on the supporting program at Zandvoort with two top-10 finishes. However, he was penalized retrospectively for 6th place in the first race of the Formula 3 Regional for using the push-to-pass system too early and thus tumbled out of the points.

No points were scored by the young Swiss Ethan Ischer (Jenzer Motorsport) and Elia Sperandio (Maffi Racing) in the third round of the Italian Formula 4 at Spa-Francorchamps.

Bugatti: Rollout for the Centodieci No.1 🎥

EXCLUSIVE The first of just ten examples of the hand-built Bugatti Centodieci will soon leave Molsheim. The Centodieci were sold immediately after their presentation at the 2019 Monterey Car Week in California.

The design of the small series of the Centodieci is intended to be reminiscent of the legendary EB110, the super sports car unveiled in 1991 to mark Ettore Bugatti's 110th birthday.

Bugatti Centodieci
The Bugatti Centodieci accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds.

Color combination as for EB110
The first Centodieci now delivered to a customer wears the color Bugatti Bleu. The paint shade is considered a symbol of Bugatti, the EB110 and the factory in which it was built. The factory in Campogalliano was named Fabricca Blu (blue factory) shortly after its completion because part of the buildings were blue.

Bugatti also chose this shade of blue for the presentation of the EB110 at the time. The fact that the first Centodieci delivered also shows in the combination of Bugatti Bleu and EB110 silver for the wheels is no coincidence: the customer owns a historic EB110 in exactly this color combination.¨

Quilted checkered pattern
Bugatti also drew inspiration for the interior from its predecessor. The quilted, checkerboard pattern familiar from the EB110 is found in the Centodieci on the seats, headliner, door panels, center console and floor mats. Custom applications enhance the work. The interior takes about 16 weeks to produce.

Top speed of 380 km/h
Equipped with the 8.0-liter W16 engine with 1600 hp, the Centodieci accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 380 km/h. The one or other Centodieci will certainly be allowed to show off its power at some point. But for cars in this class, the driving data on paper also serves the purpose of keeping the car's value at a level that matches the top speed.

Porsche: First laps with the fast Gen3 🎥

FORMULA NOVEL In the upcoming Formula E season, Porsche is entering a new era with its third generation of vehicles. Works driver Pascal Wehrlein completed his first fast laps with the all-electric Gen3 model.

The eagerly awaited rollout of the Gen3 was an important step into the future of Formula E for Porsche. On the test track at the Weissach development center, works driver Pascal Wehrlein completed the first laps with the vehicle that will be used by the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team in the world championship.

The driver on the first race: "That was a very interesting day and a great experience to drive our new Gen3 car for the first time. It feels great and I'm looking forward to testing it at full power very soon. The first impressions were already very good and whet my appetite for more."

Porsche Gen3
In the third generation, Formula E cars will become much faster.

Big step in sustainability
The Gen3 race cars are the lightest, most powerful and most efficient electric racers ever built. Developed specifically for Formula E's street circuits, they also take a big step forward in sustainability.

For example, more than 40 percent of the energy consumed in the race is generated via regenerative braking, and the carbon fiber material used for body construction comes in part from Gen2.

One drive train on each of the two axles
The Gen3 cars are the first formula race cars with a powertrain on each of the two axles. 250 kW is supplied at the front and 350 kW at the rear, together more than twice as much as in the Gen2 cars. Charging times will also be greatly reduced. With the new ultra-high-speed chargers, 600 kW can be recharged almost twice as fast as with the best chargers currently available.

The Porsche Formula E team is contesting its third season with the Porsche 99X Electric. The team from Weissach celebrated its greatest success to date with a double victory by Pascal Wehrlein and André Lotterer in the Porsche 99X Electric on February 12, 2022 in Mexico.

Franco Sbarro: Special show in Romanshorn 🎥

WHERE YOU MEET The special Sbarro Concept Cars show opened at the autobau Erlebniswelt in Romanshorn. Franco Sbarro, 83, and his wife Françoise were present at the opening.

It is no coincidence that this special show is being presented in Fredy Lienhard's autobau, because Lienhard and Sbarro have a long friendship, which also resulted in some special concept cars that are now part of the exhibition.

Franco Sbarro
Franco Sbarro, Fredy Lienhard and Françoise Sbarro took center stage at the opening ceremony.

First prototype with Lancia engine
Franco Sbarro, born in 1939 in Presicce, Lecce, came to Switzerland in 1957 to train as a precision mechanic. In 1959 he built his first prototype with a Lancia engine. In 1967 he founded his own company, building racing cars and sports cars to his own designs.

At the 1973 Geneva Motor Show, he attracted attention with the SV1 study, a safety sports car with two NSU Ro 80 engines in front of the rear axle.

Race cars and replicas
Concept cars and examples of Franco Sbarro's work are on display in the autobau erlebniswelt. These include racing cars such as the CanAm from 1968 as well as replicas such as the Sbarro Mercedes-Benz 540K, the sculpture for the car show Sbarro Concept Cars.

Ford GT40 and a Ferrari P4
The main part of the exhibition comprises the concept cars from four decades. Whether Challenge, Monster or Hélios, these cars always make for open mouths.

A typical example for Sbarro is also the VW Golf from 1982, which is equipped with a mid-engine from the Porsche 930 Turbo. This Golf, which weighed around 1300 kilograms, produced 300 hp 40 years ago.

Alpine: Memory of Corsica

LIMITED SERIES With the new A110 Tour de Corse 75, the French sports car manufacturer presents a special edition inspired by the legendary Alpine A110 of 1975 in the Corsica Rally.

Alpine A110
The special model can be reserved at Alpine partners at a price of 84,000 Swiss francs.

The hallmark of the series, which was produced in 150 units, is the yellow body paint, which contrasts with the black front hood and roof.

Technical features include the 300-hp engine from the A110 GT and A110 S and a rally chassis for maximum agility.

Orange Brembo brake calipers
The paintwork, which is based on the historical prototype, is complemented by striking black and white Tour de Corse 75 graphics. Added to this are a white border around the front hood and the number 7 at the rear as a reference to the rally car of the time. 18-inch wheels painted in gloss white and the orange Brembo brake calipers complete the sporty appearance.

Fight A110 against Lancia Stratos HF
Created in 1956, the Tour de Corse is one of the most important events in rallying. In 1967, the race event, also known as the Rally of 10,000 Bends, was included in the French Rally Championship, and in 1973 it advanced to become the most important French round of the World Rally Championship.

Two years later, 77 teams started on the Corsican asphalt, but only 22 finished: an indication of the rally's level of difficulty. The Alpine A110 and the Lancia Stratos HF engaged in a fierce battle for victory, which was only decided on the last special stage, when the Alpine came within 32 seconds of the top step of the podium.

Renault: Quiet tones for the electric car 🎥

CAR AS SOUND EXPERIENCE Renault and French composer Jean-Michel Jarre, who has specialized in electronic music for many years, are presenting the new sound concept for future electric vehicles at the Vivatech technology conference in Paris.

The philosophy behind this is "Less is more". The aim is to ensure maximum sound quality in the interior with as few components as possible. The central elements of the audio system are mid-range speakers in each door and sound bubbles in each headrest. Passengers thus enjoy an intensive acoustic experience tailored to each individual passenger.

Renault Sound
Central elements are midrange speakers in each door and sound bubbles in each headrest

Cars become sound rooms
Scenic Vision is the result of Renault's collaboration with Jean-Michel Jarre. In addition to the greeting sequence when entering the vehicle, the sound signature includes the entire audio system with all components, their arrangement and the associated algorithms.

Jean-Michel Jarre: "Automobiles are great spaces where synergies can be created between technology and the environment. I want to bring all my skills as a sound engineer to this world."

Soundtrack comes from Sonic Road
As part of the cooperation, which will initially run for three years, Jean-Michel Jarre will also provide artistic support for the launch of Sonic Road. This patented Renault service will provide drivers and passengers with the ideal soundtrack for the road, taking into account their musical preferences as well as other data.

This includes locations, landscapes, weather and even the time of day. The musician has developed a method to link the contextual data recognized by the vehicle with audio content such as music, podcasts and news. This creates a completely new sensory experience for all vehicle occupants.

Kerenzerberg: March of the legends 🎥

WHERE YOU MEET 220 cars and 50 motorcycles will be at the start of the third revival of the Kerenzerberg Race this weekend. Among them is Jo Siffert's March 701 from 1970.

The rest of the field of participants is also impressive. The absolute highlight is Jo Siffert's 1970 Formula 1 March (center gallery, photo Urs Gehrig). Phimmo boss Hans Peter has completely restored this car over the past two years and will not miss the opportunity to drive it himself.

Five Sauber sports cars roll out onto the grid
Also on the starting grid is the Brabham Formula 2 in which European mountain champion Xavier Perrot took part in the 1969 Kerenzerberg race. It will be driven by Thomas Amweg, the son of mountain king Fredy Amweg. Another highlight are the five Sauber sports cars that the fans will be able to see. The C1 (gallery left, photo: Franz Leupi) from 1970 is driven up the 3.17-kilometer track by company founder Peter Sauber (78) himself.

Just like Fredy Lienhard. The former racing driver and founder of the autobau Erlebniswelt in Romanshorn will be putting the spurs to his 1995 Ferrari 333SP (gallery right, photo Franz Leupi).

The course record dates back to 1970
The Kerenzerbergrennen was held in 1967 as a mountain race and from 1968 to 1970 as a round of the Swiss championship. The course record was set by a Bellasi Formula 1 at the last edition in 1970 (1:24.99 min). At the wheel at that time was the former GP racing driver Silvio Moser.

Before 1967, the race led over two kilometers from Mühlehorn to Stocken - directly on Lake Walen. Members of other ACS sections were also invited to this small mountain championship, as this race was called back then. In 2022, there will be no timekeeping.

As then, the entrance fee is five francs
The event kicks off on Friday evening with car scrutineering starting at 4 pm. The first race runs will take place from 8.10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18. The last field will start at 5.10 pm. The organizers around Franz Leupi have planned the same schedule for Sunday, June 19.

Admission costs five francs (as in 1970). The paddock is located on the premises of Netstal Maschinen AG in Näfels.
