Bugatti: Pure driving pleasure in a convertible

EXCLUSIVE Bugatti has been designing exceptional vehicles for more than 110 years. The convertibles have a very special place in the model range. The open-top cars are designed to maximize driving pleasure.

Bugatti Roadster
The Bugatti Royale was - and still is - a superlative roadster.

As two-seater sports cars, roadsters have always offered pure driving pleasure. Company founder Ettore Bugatti and his son therefore designed some of the most exciting convertibles even in the early days of the company's more than 110-year history.¨

Ettore and Jean Bugatti were permanently striving to build high-performance vehicles with precise handling and exceptional design. Jean Bugatti in particular designed some of the most famous roadsters in automotive history from the mid-1920s until his death in 1939.

Becoming aware of your own DNA

Christophe Piochon, President Bugatti Automobiles: "For us, diving into a long tradition is always about pausing and becoming aware of our own DNA. Bugatti has created some of the most special roadsters over the past decades."

With the Type 40 A, for example, Bugatti expanded its Type 40 portfolio from 1930. It was based on a long chassis and powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 50 hp. The 850-kilogram car could reach speeds of up to 130 km/h. Bugatti dispensed with doors on the roadster body of the lightweight Type 44. The Type 44 was already powered by a 3-liter eight-cylinder engine with around 80 hp.

Elegance, luxury and grandeur
No other model from Bugatti's early era exudes as much elegance, luxury and grandeur as the Type 41 Royal. Only six vehicles were built by hand between 1926 and 1933.

With a wheelbase of 4.3 meters and a length of more than six meters, the Royale is the largest, most powerful and most magnificent car built in Molsheim up to that time. A 12.8-liter eight-cylinder engine with around 300 hp works under the long hood.

Without roof 360 km/h, with over 400 km/h
With the Type 57 SC, the Corsica Roadster was created in 1938, a car as if from a single mold. Its 3.8-liter eight-cylinder engine made speeds of up to 200 km/h possible. Bugatti presented the first hyper sports car, the Veyron 16.4, in 2004 - in 2008 came the first roadster version of the modern era, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport. It reaches 360 km/h without the roof and even more than 400 km/h with the polycarbonate roof element.

Sono: The sun is always on board 🎥

SOLAR ELECTRIC CAR The Munich-based developer and manufacturer of solar mobility solutions, Sono Motors, is unveiling the production design of the Sion model for the first time. This is the world's first solar electric car for the masses.

Sono Motors, a pioneer in the field of solar-powered mobility, showed for the first time the production design of the Sion, the world's first low-cost solar electric car, as part of the "Celebrate the Sun" community event. It bears the same French name as the capital of the canton of Valais and has received significant changes in its production design compared to earlier development stages.

The exterior and interior now feature fewer lines and therefore clearer surfaces. The revised exterior design includes new headlights and taillights, a redesigned side line, a clearly structured rear end with camera and 3-D lines, and a new tailgate. Fresh colors and materials in the interior round off the design.

Body made of integrated solar half cells
body of the Sion consists of 456 seamlessly integrated solar half-cells and enables autonomous energy supply on short distances. The energy generated by the solar cells is expected to supplement the 54-kWh battery's expected range of 305 kilometers by an average of 112 kilometers per week.

The battery offers a charging capacity of up to 75 kW (DC) and 11 kW (AC). The bidirectional charging technology complements the vehicle's solar integration and is designed to turn it into a sustainable power plant on wheels that can power electronic devices, the home or other electric cars with up to 11 kW.

sonomotors
The Sono Sion solar electric car will soon be on the road in Europe and the USA.

Practical tests under extreme conditions
Over the next few months, the new generation of vehicles will undergo practical tests under extreme conditions in Europe and the USA. By July 1 of this year, Sono Motors had received more than 19,000 private reservations for the Sion.

With an estimated net selling price of just €25,126, the Sion is likely to have one of the lowest TCOs (total cost of ownership) in the mid-size segment.

Harley-Davidson: More dynamic with new paint scheme

HOW IT LIKES The new Apex Factory Custom Paint Design gives selected Harley-Davidson Grand American Touring models an even racier appearance in the future.

Apex Factory
The special paint scheme is inspired by the brand's successful racing history.

For the first time, the touring models with the new livery will be on display at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota, USA. There, the Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle factory team will defend its victory in the 2021 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers championship, continuing a legacy established more than a century ago at Hill Climb, Drag Race and Flat Track.

Homage to legendary XR750
The new paint scheme features a graphic outline on the fuel tank, an homage to the tank shape of the legendary Harley-Davidson XR750 flat track racing machine.

On models with fairings, the graphic runs at a special angle to the rear to express speed. The lines on the front fender visually combine with those on the side panels and the trunks, creating a flowing effect. In this way, the motorcycle conveys dynamism even when stationary.

Jet Fire Orange Accent Stripes
The new color scheme is based on a Vivid Black basecoat. A graphic element traces Gauntlet Gray panels surrounded by an accent stripe in Jet Fire Orange - the original color of the XR750 Racing motorcycles. Each panel features drop shadows and a subtle Bar & Shield logo.

The slight color gradient is also based on the racing motorcycles of the Harley-Davidson Factory Team. A clear coat forms the refining final layer of this special paint finish. The Apex Custom paint is applied specifically at Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Assembly and Harley-Davidson Tomahawk Operations.

In Switzerland, the special paint is available for Road King Special, Ultra Limited and Road Glide Special.

Rimac: Rosberg snatches number 1 🎥

INDIVIDUAL Rimac delivers the first mass-produced Nevera to Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 champion. The electrically powered high-performance sports car is built in Zagreb, Croatia.

One month after the launch of the last pre-production Nevera #000, the Rimac Nevera #001 rolled off the production line. Even before the car was transported to Rosberg's home in Monaco, Nico Rosberg and Mate Rimac took a test drive together.

Rimac Rosberg
The first customer, ex-F1 crack Nico Rosberg, is thrilled with his new hypercar.

First year of production sold out
Almost all components of the superfast electric car were developed and manufactured in-house at Rimac. Final assembly takes around five weeks per vehicle.

Predecessor #000 remains with Rimac. Rosberg's #001 has Stellar Black paint with Vertex wheels and gloss black brake calipers. Black Alcantara dominates the interior.

Only 150 copies available worldwide
With the first delivery to a customer, Rimac is now also starting to complete individually configured Neveras for all roads worldwide. However, the production number remains limited to 150 units. Sales and maintenance are handled by 25 contractual partners worldwide. Even before the first delivery, the car has set record marks.

With its 1400 kW (just over 1900 hp) of propulsive power, the Nevera accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 1.85 seconds.

Peugeot: The 408 as a rotating work of art 🎥

UNIQUE The new Peugeot 408, unveiled to the public in June, is now on display at the Louvre-Lens art museum in the northern French town of Lens. In The Sphere, it can be seen from every angle.

The transparent sphere The Sphere rotates and shows the new Peugeot 408 from every perspective. This project, conceived by the Open agency, was implemented by a team from the fields of art, engineering and technology from the Paris-based creative studio Superbien.

They transformed the idea into an impressive design that seems to defy gravity and shows the vehicle from all angles.

Sporty design becomes a work of art
The original staging was presented in the special setting of the Louvre-Lens. It helps to turn the new Peugeot 408 with its sporty design into a work of art. The plan is to present the work of art at further events.

Fuel: Soon an end to fuel discounts

SORRY Slight easing for gasoline, no change for diesel - this is how ADAC sees the development of fuel prices. In the view of the ADAC, fuel prices are far too high compared to the price of crude oil.

Fuel
The trip to the gas pump in Germany will soon hardly be worth it

For a liter of Super E10, drivers currently have to pay a nationwide average of 1.732 euros, 1.8 cents less than in the previous week. According to the automobile club, a liter currently costs an average of 1.927 euros - a minus of 0.1 cents.

Tax in the usual scope
The fuel rebate, under which the energy tax together with the pro-rata value-added tax was reduced by 35 cents per liter for gasoline and 17 cents for diesel on June 1, will expire in four weeks. After that, the tax will be levied again at the usual rate, with the result that fuel prices are likely to cost more than two euros again.

Market: Electric vehicles polish the balance sheet

SELLS The supply problems for new vehicles continue to have a firm grip on the Swiss auto market. Only a slow improvement can be expected for the rest of the second half of the year.

Market
Almost one in four new cars in 2022 will be rechargeable via the power grid.

In the past calendar month of July, 15,656 passenger cars took to the roads of Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein for the first time. At that time, the number of new registrations was 19,422.
Lack of semiconductor products and disruptions in logistics chains continue to affect production at automakers and the delivery of vehicles.

Negative impact on the industry

Media spokesman Christoph Wolnik: "This market decline has enormous negative consequences for various players in the Swiss automotive industry, from suppliers and importers to authorized dealers and garages. In addition, customers must unfortunately continue to prepare for longer delivery times."

20,000 pure e-models after seven months
The cumulative market share of alternative drive systems since the beginning of the year is 49.5 percent. 61,945 of the 125,256 newly registered passenger cars are hybrid, electric, gas or hydrogen-powered. At 20,007, just under a third of these, or 16 percent of the total market, are purely battery electric. Together with the 10,808 plug-in hybrids that have hit the roads since the beginning of the year, the market share of plug-in vehicles is a high 24.6 percent.
