Save while driving

REDUCING CONSUMPTION In view of the supply crisis and the associated rise in energy prices, people are also asking themselves how they can drive more economically. Driving style has a major influence on consumption.

Save while driving
Driving style is a big influencing factor in fuel and electricity consumption.

The only way to counter rising energy prices is to reduce fuel and electricity consumption, i.e. to drive energy-efficiently. A series of tips from TCS and Eco Drive shows how fuel and electricity can be saved by following simple rules. In most respects, the savings tips do not differ between conventional, hybrid and electric drives.

General tips
Energy consumption depends primarily on the car and the driving style. You can easily save 10 to 20 percent fuel or charging current if you regularly check the tire pressure and pump the tires up to 0.5 bar more than specified by the manufacturer, and unnecessary ballast must be removed from the car before the journey. TCS and Eco Drive only recommend using the air conditioning from an outside temperature of around 18 degrees Celsius, provided the windows are not misted up. Heaters for seats, steering wheel, side mirrors and windows also require energy and should only be used selectively. In addition, you should drive with foresight, in a balanced manner and with sufficient distance - using cruise control where possible. The vehicle's momentum should be used to allow the vehicle to roll early before junctions, traffic lights and other obstacles.

With combustion engines
If available, use the automatic stop-start function. If this is not available, it is worth switching off the engine after stopping for five to ten seconds. With manually shifted cars, accelerate quickly and shift up early. It is also advisable to always drive in the highest possible gear when driving uphill. Use the Eco mode on automatic cars and avoid Sport mode.

With electric and hybrid
Use and utilize recuperation and the coasting function in a targeted manner. For plug-in vehicles, only use the seat and steering wheel heating for short distances if possible. The entire car should not be heated. For hybrid vehicles: drive electrically whenever possible.

Final SKM 2022: suspense until the end

THESE ARE THE BEST In the autobau Swiss Kart Championship, the die has been cast in four classes in Wohlen. The new champions are Chiara Bättig, Kilian Streit, Lyon Mathur and Sebastian Kraft.

Final SKM 2022
At the final of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship in Wohlen, every inch was fought for.

Dan Allemann was the only driver who could take it easy at the finale. The 10-year-old from the Spirit-Karting.ch team was already set as the Super Minis champion before the big clash at his home race in Aargau.

Chiara Bättig drove away from all
In the OK Junior category, Elia Epifanio (Exprit) and Chiara Bättig (KartBox.ch, gallery left) were separated by just five points before the final. Epifanio even managed to extend this mini-lead by two points after the first heat thanks to second place (behind winner Kevin Rabin) ahead of Bättig. In the second run, however, Epifanio had to watch as Bättig drove unleashed to victory.

Kilian Streit needed a point
The starting position in the X30 Challenge Switzerland was not quite as exciting. There, leader Kilian Streit (center gallery with Lyon Mathur) needed a single point for his first SM title. He secured it with a solid sixth place in the first heat (winner Alessio Strollo). In the second heat Streit turned up the heat - with second place behind Nicolaj Sabo. After the race, Sabo was still trembling over his first triumph this year due to a five-second penalty.

Lyon Mathur with deserved title
The OK Senior category offered a tight starting position. Only ten points separated leader Lyon Mathur (Exprit) from last year's champion Patrick Näscher (Kartteam Meier). After the first heat (Mathur ahead of Näscher) and the pole position for Mathur, it was already 15 points.

In the second preliminary race in the wet, it looked after the first lap as if Näscher would come back again. In the lead, he shot across the finish line after the first lap. But after that the Liechtensteiner was successively pushed back. From Näscher's point of view, there was no match for Mathur. The 16-year-old from Sarmenstorf deservedly took the title.

Sebastian Kraft against Eric Berguerand
In the switch karts in the KZ2 category, Ethan Frigomosca from Ticino had a six-point lead over Sebastian Kraft (gallery on the right with his fan club) before the final. The latter shortened his lead to 228:232 before the first heat with the pole position and the two extra points he won for it. And with the victory in the first heat he even took the lead. However, only because Frigomosca had to give up after a collision. In the second heat Frigomosca (2nd) prevailed against Kraft (3rd). The victory went to Evan Vantaggiato. In all the hustle and bustle, the latter's final victory was almost lost. Second place went to Kevin Wälti, third was VIP driver Eric Berguerand (AutoSprintCH reported).

Dan Allemann starts final as winner
In the youngest category (eight to twelve years), Dan Allemann was already the champion, as mentioned at the beginning. And that was a good thing for the son of team owner Ken Allemann. Because Allemann offered in Wohlen seen over the whole season his worst weekend in the Super Minis. Matt Corbi clearly secured the runner-up title behind Allemann with a top performance. Third place in the final standings went to Albert Tamm.

A detailed report and photos of the races can be found on the Auto Sport Schweiz website.

Auction: chance to get a bargain 🎥

WHERE TO MEET The autumn auction of the Oldtimer Galerie in Toffen has enjoyed great popularity for years. On Saturday, October 15, 2022, a wide range of vehicles will be called again.

The proportion of motorcycles and two-wheelers is relatively high, comprising 26 of the 100 vehicles and featuring some rarities. 74 automobiles represent the four-wheeler fraction and cover nine decades of vehicle construction. On average, the two- and four-wheelers are almost 50 years old.

Auction Toffen
The 2-cylinder boxer of the Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston from 1984 produces 29 hp.

Together, the cars and bikes are estimated at 2.7 million francs, which means that each vehicle is expected to fetch around 27,000 francs. 48 percent of the lots will go under the hammer without a minimum price. Bargains are therefore possible.

BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz at the top
38 car brands will be represented in Toffen. In addition, there will be eleven motorcycle brands. Twelve BMWs, eight Jaguars and seven Mercedes-Benzes are at the top of the brand hit parade, although BMW has nine motorcycles. All the other brands are represented with a maximum of a handful of vehicles, some such as Autobianchi, Alvis, Austin-Healey, Bentley, Humber or Pierce-Arrow even with only one car each.

More information and many pictures of the individual vehicles can be found at the Vintage car gallery website or in the Online catalogwhich you can browse through. That alone is fun.

Vespa: More safety and comfort

THE SUMMER CAN COME For 2023, the GTS series from Vespa presents itself with a multitude of technical innovations in safety and comfort. With great attention to detail, it has also made further improvements in terms of styling.

Vespa GTS
Vespa continuously develops its model ranges, as with the GTS super, and thus always remains up to date.

n the history of the most popular and famous scooter in the world, the Vespa GTS has inherited the great scooters with which man and woman elegantly surf through the city, but with which you can also feel comfortable on long trips.

The Vespa GTS range consists of four model variants, each of which has its own personality: the classically elegant Vespa GTS, the modern GTS Super, the gritty GTS Super Sport and the Vespa GTS Super Tech. All models are available with both the proven 125cc i-get engine (14 hp) and the powerful 300cc hpe engine (23.8 hp).

Masterpiece between tradition and modernity
Vespa sees the new GTS as a masterpiece that maintains the perfect balance between tradition and modernity. This is underlined by the lines of the new model, which have been refined with attention to every detail, raising the quality feel to a new level.

The side light elements with daytime running lights and direction indicator now stole in LED technology and are integrated into the front shield without visible attachment points. The typical Vespa tie shows more dynamic with smaller slots.

New look taillights with distinctive profile
Handlebar section with the LED round headlight has been completely redesigned. Wider and with repositioned brake levers, it offers better ergonomics. The new chrome-plated grip fittings are easy and intuitive to use. Also new are the grips with short end caps and the rearview mirrors.

The rear also received a new look with smaller LED turn signals and a rear light cluster with an edgier profile. The lower parts of the bodywork merge seamlessly, creating a tidy dynamic rear view. During the month of November, the new models will be available at official Vespa dealers, with prices starting at 5645 Swiss francs.

Jaguar: Happy Birthday

EXCLUSIVE To mark the 75th anniversary of Jaguar sports cars, Swiss customers will be able to enjoy the special edition F-Type R 75 from 2023, which will be offered as a coupe and a convertible and with a supercharged V8 engine.

Jaguar anniversary
At the top of the new F-Type model range is the 75 R anniversary model.

Jaguar presents an exquisite exclusivity with the F-Type R 75 anniversary model. Jaguar celebrates its sports cars with special design elements in the interior and exterior, rich standard equipment and the exclusive Giola Green Metallic color option.

The F-Type looks back on a 75-year-old tradition. In the 1950s and 1960s, Jaguar brought out some particularly iconic sports cars with the XK models and the E-Type.

Two body styles to choose from
As a coupe or convertible, the F-Type combines a perfect symbiosis of performance and driving pleasure. For the new model, Jaguar has concentrated the range on four derivatives. What they all have in common are standard 20-inch wheels, new hubcaps, and detail changes such as the now blacked-out Jaguar Grower in the radiator grille and black and gray instead of red and green R-Dynamic emblems.

V8 high-performance engine with 575 hp
At the top of the new portfolio is the special edition F-Type R 75 with 5-liter supercharged V8 engine with 575 hp, 8-speed automatic transmission as well as all-wheel drive. Sleek LED headlights with standard pixel technology, along with Jaguar's signature J-blade daytime running lights and wipe-effect turn signals, emphasize the car's width and blend into the flowing surface of the hood. Discreet emblems on the front fenders have been designed specifically for the F-Type R 75 model, reflecting the unmistakable silhouette.

All-wheel drive system increases traction and dynamics
Double wishbones on the front and rear axles, carefully tuned electromechanical power steering and Torque Vectoring by Braking work together with the active rear differential to ensure optimum agility. The torque-on-demand all-wheel drive system increases traction and dynamics in all weather and road conditions.

The metallic black car is named Taycan 4S Cross Turismo for Jennie Ruby Jane and will be presented at the "Sonderwunsch Haus" in Seoul on the occasion of the start of Blackpink's world tour.

Joint design of the special model
In a digital workshop lasting several hours, the experts from the special requests team at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and the Style Porsche design department worked with the artist to design the Taycan. The vehicle was refined in the Exclusive Manufaktur workshop in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.

Deliberate understatement for the exterior

Kart SM 2022: Eric Berguerand on the podium

STRONG PERFORMANCE Seven-time Swiss mountain champion Eric Berguerand put up a brave fight as a VIP driver at the final of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship. In the end, he even stood on the podium, albeit exhausted, in third place.

Kart SM 2022
Tobis Borel, Eric Berguerand and father Louis Berguerand are happy about the third place.

At the finale of the autobau Swiss Kart Championship, Swiss mountain champion Eric Berguerand is a VIP driver in the team of spirit-karting.ch started in the KZ2 category. The seven-time Swiss mountain champion did more than respectably.

But Berguerand not only did his best, he even outgrew himself. After abandoning the two heats after 5 and 13 laps respectively, he bravely completed the final over 26 laps. In the end, he finished in third place, which he had not even noticed at first in the heat of the moment.

The goal was to contest the final from A to Z

Eric Berguerand: "I last sat in a kart in 2005. It's very, very difficult to get back into a rhythm after I realized in the practice sessions on Friday and Saturday morning how exhausting karting is, so I set myself the goal of at least competing in the final from A to Z. The fact that I still came third in the end is the reward for really hard work."

Karting is no comparison to the hill climbs
Of course, the pro had benefited from one or the other dropout in the final. But unlike in the two heats, he didn't let the competition directly in front of him shake him off in the final. Berguerand was just 0.182 seconds off the fastest lap time set by champion Sebastian Kraft.

Eric Berguerand: "It suited me that the track was damp, even very wet in places. As a result, the strokes were not quite so wild. But it was still exhausting. And it's no comparison to the hill climbs I usually compete in."

Former Swiss karting champion Berguerand can be proud of his performance. To face the young drivers, who train almost every weekend, like this takes a portion of courage.

Eric Berguerand: "I would like to thank Spirit-Karting.ch and Auto Sport Schweiz for this opportunity. First and foremost Ken Allemann, the team boss, and my mechanic Tobias Borel. It was a great experience and it was very, very fun despite the pain I had to endure! But now I have to recover from the exertions first."

More results of the championship later this week in AutoSprintCH.

Toyota: Best-seller in SUV format 🎥

FOR ALL CASE With the Cross version of the successful Corolla, Toyota brings the fifth generation of the self-charging hybrid system, AWD-i all-wheel drive for safe driving, and new assistance systems.

With the fifth generation of Toyota's hybrid technology, the SUV has become even more powerful and efficient. The 1.8-liter version (140 hp) is always combined with front-wheel drive, while the two-liter (197 hp) offers the combination with intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD-i) through a 30-kW electric motor on the rear axle.

Corolla Cross
The SUV version Cross completes the successful Corolla series.

New 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
The luggage compartment, which holds a lot of stowage, is easily accessible thanks to the wide-opening tailgate and the low loading sill of 72 centimeters. Its volume of 396 liters can be increased to 1359 liters by folding down the rear seat backrests.

The new Corolla Cross is also the first model to offer Toyota's new, fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster, which can be personalized in content and displays. There is also the new Smart Connect multimedia and infotainment system as standard, with a fast-response 10.5-inch touchscreen, access to Connected Services and easy smartphone integration.

Top version with semi-autonomous parking system
The Corolla's Safety Sense system includes optimized pre-collision system performance. In city traffic, for example, it warns early enough of head-on collisions with oncoming vehicles, and at intersections it detects oncoming traffic in two lanes. Vehicles or bicycles suddenly turning in from the side can also be detected, and the T-Mate functions make driving and parking safer.

The top version is equipped with the semi-autonomous parking system, which allows the vehicle to maneuver into the parking space with the help of twelve panoramic view cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors. All the driver has to do is operate the gearshift.

Prices start at 39 700 francs (Comfort model with 4×2 drive).
