Survey: What annoys Swiss drivers

OTHERS' MISTAKES A study commissioned by Continental Suisse SA on the subject of driving safety revealed that many motorists regularly get upset about the careless driving behavior of other road users.

Driving safety
Beat Möschler: "Swiss drivers are very critical - especially when it comes to the behavior of other road users."

At the intersection, drivers are denied the right of way, instead of looking at the road, they stare at their smartphones, and on the way to kindergarten, another road user overtakes without consideration. A representative online survey in Switzerland investigated what drivers think about driving safety.

Driving safety

Lack of attention greatest danger
A large proportion of the survey participants drive up to 10,000 kilometers a year - a distance that leaves plenty of time to take offense at the behavior of other road users. 59 percent of drivers in Switzerland are regularly annoyed by other drivers.

But what do the drivers surveyed see as the greatest danger to themselves from the traffic behavior of other motorists? For 82 percent of those surveyed, a lack of attention from other road users is one of the greatest sources of danger.

The concern about lack of attention is quite justified, because almost one in four drivers in Switzerland admits to having been distracted by their smartphone while driving. Even a supposedly minor lack of attention can have serious consequences.

Driving safety

Little reliance on common assistance systems
Driving assistance systems can provide support in terms of driving safety. But only 30 percent of the drivers surveyed said they rely on common systems.

Beat Möschler, tire expert at Continental Switzerland: "Basically, drivers should pay attention to a prudent and defensive driving style and not only look for faults in others. As a vehicle driver, it is important to know: The weakest link in road traffic is not the technology, but each individual driver behind the wheel."

Emil Frey Racing: Team title for the Swiss 🎥

DONE In an action-packed season finale at Hockenheim, Emil Frey Racing ended its first season in the ADAC GT Masters in the best possible way by winning the all-important team title.

The first race of the weekend brought the best results for the team as all three crews scored points. The #19 with Arthur Rougier and Franck Perera had a sensational race, going from eighth on the grid to second. The #63 with Jack Aitken and Albert Costa Balboa finished fourth due to a jam in the pit lane.

Emil Frey Racing
Team manager Lorenz Frey-Hilti is pleased with his team's performance.

Main competitor in second race without points
Mick Wishofer and Konsta Lappalainen finished sixth before going one better in the second race to finish fifth. Costa Balboa and Aitken both had to retire due to damage to their vehicle. But the #14's result, combined with 11th for the #19 and the result of one of Emil Frey Racing's main rivals going points-less in the second race, was enough to secure the title triumph.

Joy over third place in the junior driver ranking

Team boss Lorenz Frey-Hilti: "We came into the last race weekend level on points and were able to build up a lead yesterday, but everything was still open then. However, this is at the same time the genius of this championship, because everyone is close together. A lot could have happened on the last race weekend, we could even have lost the podium. We're very happy about the victory in the team championship. The fact that we didn't finish on the podium in the overall drivers' championship but in fourth place is a bit of a shame, but on the other hand we're very happy about third place in the junior drivers' championship. I'm very happy with our season."

Audi: The special edition RS 3 clocks in at 300 km/h 🎥

FIVE CYLINDER IN TOP FORM The four rings raise the bar even higher: In the new RS3 Performance Edition, the 2.5-liter engine delivers 407 hp. The adaptive suspension, ceramic braking system and bucket seats come as standard.

The new RS 3 as Performance Edition is the sportiest compact model from Audi Sport. The special edition, limited to 300 units, has a 5-cylinder turbo engine that produces 407 hp and enables a maximum speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). Also standard in the special model are the RS torque splitter and ceramic brake, RS bucket seats and many exclusive design elements.

RS3 Performance
The RS 3 Performance Edition from Audi offers a little bit more of everything.

From zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds
The RS 3 Performance Edition is the first vehicle in its segment to reach 300 km/h. In addition to the new maximum output, the torque plateau is also wider. The maximum of 500 Nm is available between 2250 and 5700 rpm.

This is achieved by a 0.1 bar higher boost pressure. Power transmission is handled by the 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission. The RS 3 Performance Edition accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Performance Edition with adapted chassis
Negative wheel camber, stiffer control arms and an RS-specific tubular stabilizer with a higher spring rate already ensure high driving dynamics in the standard RS 3. In the Performance Edition, the RS sports suspension with adaptive damper control is added as standard. Handling is thus even firmer. With the RS Torque Splitter, the RS 3 Performance Edition uses a technology that increases stability and enhances agility. A maximum of 50 percent of the drive force is transmitted to the rear axle, and in RS Torque Rear mode at times completely to the outer wheel.

The Virtual Cockpit Plus shows the important data
For the first time in the RS 3, there are bucket seats as standard, which provide the best lateral support. Below the headrest, the black funnel trim integrates a large RS lettering. In addition to the blue seatbelt bands, the contrasting stitching on the center armrest, the door armrests and the steering wheel is also in blue.

The Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus provides information on relevant data such as lap times, g-forces and acceleration values. The new model can be ordered as a Sportback at prices starting at 90,100 Swiss francs. It will be delivered from spring 2023.

Lexus: First plug-in hybrid of the brand 🎥

69 KILOMETERS ELECTRICAL With the RX 450h+ model, Lexus now also offers a plug-in variant after the many self-charging hybrid systems. The model is characterized by comfort and easy handling.

The advantages of a large SUV are well known. Up to seven people travel comfortably even over longer distances, and space for luggage or leisure equipment is also available. The interior is perfectly air-conditioned, and entertainment, connectivity and safety features are guaranteed. Now there's another aspect to add: Electrified powertrains are said to ensure low consumption and emissions.

Lexus RX 450h+
The Lexus RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid is not only comfortable to drive, but also efficient.

Lexus as a hybrid pioneer in the luxury class
Lexus was the first manufacturer to introduce electrified powertrains to the luxury segment 17 years ago. Now the first plug-in hybrid is being added to the range, enabling long journeys without range concerns and offering striking advantages in terms of fuel consumption and emissions.

The homologation papers show excellent values: CO2 emissions of 24 g/km, gasoline consumption of 1.1 l/100 km and an EV range of up to 69 kilometers. The drive power is 227 kW (309 hp), enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.

Seamless switch to the hybrid drive
These values only show one side of the whole. While most competitors simply switch to gasoline mode when the battery is empty, the RX 450h+ seamlessly switches to hybrid drive so that the battery is recharged while driving. With the benefit of different selectable drive settings, it is always possible to get the most out of the plug-in hybrid system.

Branch: Super - three meetings in one go

BEING STRONG TOGETHER With the 12th Swiss Commercial Vehicle Show Transport-CH and the Aftermarket-CH launched a year ago, Carrosserie-CH will also be held for the first time in Bern from November 8 to 11, 2023.

Transport-CH
Aftermarket-CH, Transport-CH and Carrosserie-CH at one place are an attractive meeting point for the trade.

Together with the biennial commercial vehicle trade fair Transport-CH and the Aftermarket-CH for the accessories and supplier industry, which was successfully launched a year ago, Carrosserie-CH, initiated by Carrosserie Suisse, will also be held for the first time in Bern from November 8 to 11, 2023 for suppliers to the car body trade.

Felix Wyss, Central President of Carrosserie Suisse: "As a founding partner of the Swiss Commercial Vehicle Show, the car body trade has played a leading role in supporting the show format for more than 20 years. Thanks to recent developments, the event has become even more of a leading trade show."

Trade show format with marketplace at the center
With the organization of Carrosserie-CH, the tradition of a regular national industry event for the Swiss car body trade is being continued. Originally, the focus was on the professional championships for the car body and vehicle construction trades, but now the marketplace is taking center stage.

Daniel Röschli, Director Carrosserie Suisse: "A completely new trade fair format is being created that offers suppliers an attractive platform. Carrosserie-CH is an opportunity for the car body trade to experience the product range and the suppliers' innovations in a concentrated way."

The registration process for exhibitors has started these days. The registration period runs until January 31, 2023.

Toyota: The RAV4 in a sporty look 🎥

CORE APPEARANCE The Toyota RAV4 has a more dynamic look in the GR Sport version. In the new version, it rolls up as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive, and the styling is reminiscent of Gazoo Racing.

Following the successful launches of the GR Sport versions of the Yaris, Yaris Cross, Corolla, C-HR and Hilux models, the RAV4 now also comes with this sport package.

The RAV4 GR Sport is offered as a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid, equipped with AWD-i all-wheel drive and styling inspired by Toyota Gazoo Racing's many world championship successes.

Toyota RAV4 GR Sport
With the black body components, the GR Sport has a more visually dynamic appearance.

Wheel arches and fog lights in Piano Black
The striking wheel arches, side moldings and tailgate trim - all in Piano Black - are a striking feature of the GR Sport. The front features distinctive fog lamps with the same G mesh grille as on the grille and front spoiler. The new model is the first to be equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels with a gloss black finish and fine light pinstripes.

The sporty appearance is continued in the interior. The sports seats are upholstered in a suede-effect fabric on the seat surfaces and the seat bolsters in synthetic leather. The new multimedia system with 10.5-inch HD display and customizable 12.3-inch instrument cluster comes as standard.

Adjusted modification of the wheel suspension
The sportier look is complemented by modifications to the suspension. More rigidly tuned springs and dampers give the GR Sport sharper handling and thus a more intense driving feel.

The new RAV4 Hybrid GR Sport and RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid GR Sport models will be available to order in Europe from the fourth quarter of 2022. It will be offered with the new service-activated 10-year warranty including additional package Assistance 24/7.

ADAC GT Masters: Emil Frey Racing wants two titles 🎥

IT'S ON TO THE LAST POINT Next weekend, Emil Frey Racing will finish its first season in the ADAC GT Masters at Hockenheim and fight for the drivers' and team titles at the same time.

The Swiss team, which has been competing in the highly competitive GT3 sprint category since the beginning of the season, has already scored various successes with all three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evos.

The duo of Jack Aitken and Albert Costa Balboa took three podiums this year in the #63: a win at Zandvoort and two second places at the Lausitzring. The #14 crew of Mick Wishofer and Konsta Lappalainen also won at Zandvoort. Arthur Rougier and Franck Perera started with the #19 at Oschersleben with an excellent pole position, which was followed by two further podium finishes.

Emil Frey Racing
Emil Frey Racing was able to achieve various successes with all three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evos.

Victory in the drivers' championship is realistic
The upcoming weekend poses a big challenge for Aitken and Costa Balboa, because mathematically, a win in the drivers' championship is still possible. They are currently fourth overall, 54 points behind the leaders. 56 points can be scored in total in both qualifying sessions and races.

For #63, the focus will be on qualifying, as three points are awarded here for pole position, two for second place and one for third. Race wins alone will not be enough to secure the title.

There are opportunities for overtaking maneuvers
In the team standings, Emil Frey Racing shares the top spot with 181 points. The team is hoping for the same strong performance as at Hockenheim as part of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe. All three crews showed strong lap times on the 4.574-kilometer circuit and were able to gather valuable data during the rain-affected free practice in September.

Unlike the last round at the Sachsenring (watch the video), overtaking is possible at Hockenheim, as both the #63 and #14 demonstrated at last month's GTWC endurance race. Key overtaking opportunities include Turn 2, a right-hand bend, and the tight hairpin at the end of the starting straight, which is run in first gear. Turn 6, which requires heavy braking, also offers an opportunity for overtaking.

The last race starts Sunday at 1 pm
The weekend begins on Friday morning October 21, 2022 at 10.15 am with the first of two free practice sessions, followed by the second free practice at 2.15 pm. On Saturday morning, the decisive qualifying session will take place at 9 a.m., with the first race starting at 1 p.m. The second qualifying session also starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, before the final race of the season gets underway at 1 p.m.

Tip: This year, RTL's Nitro channel will once again broadcast all ADAC GT Masters races live and in full.

Jaguar: Special models for the double victory in 1953 🎥

LOOK BACK Nearly seven decades after their greatest triumph, the double victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jaguar Classic Works now presents two 70-edition models of the C-Type.

To celebrate the model's successes in the 1953 racing season, Jaguar Classic has unveiled two exclusive C-Type continuations. The 70-edition examples commemorate Jaguar's double victory in the 21st edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and feature a special color and upholstery specification.

The faithful replicas were built in the state-of-the-art facilities of Jaguar Classic Works in over 3,000 hours using the production methods that were standard at the time. The price for a 70-edition C-Type is £1.5 million (around 1.7 million Swiss francs).

Jaguar C-Type
The two 70-edition examples are built at Jaguar Classic Works in Coventry with aluminum bodywork.

Unique color combinations for the edition
Each C-Type Continuation 70-Edition has been configured in a special color and trim combination with handcrafted enameled emblems by jeweler Deakin & Francis. Complementing the trim are 70-Edition decorative stitching and embroidery, as well as roundels bearing the race number 70.

The first example shines in the color combination of Verbier Silver with a leather interior in Cranberry Red. The second 70-edition pays homage to the 1953 winning C-Type XKC051, painted in the factory colors British Racing Green with green suede seat covers.

Speed record with speed 170.336 km/h
On the weekend of June 13 and 14, 1953, the Jaguar works team took to the starting line of the endurance classic with three C-Types equipped for the first time with disc brakes and a more powerful 3.4-liter engine with 220 hp. After 24 hours, the felines took 1st, 2nd and 4th place, with the winning driver pairing of Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton reeling off the 4088 kilometers at a record average speed of 105.85 mph (170.336 km/h).
