Model exchange: Even the little ones bring joy

WHERE TO MEET Once again this year, the last Sunday before Christmas at the Museum of Transport is an important day for model car collectors. But a visit to the popular Lucerne Model Car Exchange is not only worthwhile for them.

Model Exchange Lucerne
Great pleasure in the sports car can also give a small-scale model.

Initiated in 1981, the first Lucerne Bourse - at that time still called Toy Exchange - took place for the first time in the Hotel Anker and subsequently in the Hotel Union. From 1984, it was at home for many years in the Gersag Center in Emmenbrücke and received a lot of attention in neighboring countries due to its good connections to public and private transport.

Supraregional significance of the exhibition
The bourse has now been based at the Museum of Transport in Lucerne for 16 years. In all these years, the event has gradually developed into a pure model car exchange. A steadily increasing number of visitors testifies to this day to the high level of acceptance among the national public and international exhibitors.

Thus, the offer ranges from high-precision collector models in different sizes to old toys and model cars - for example, from Dinky Toys or Corgi Toys.

The bourse at the Museum of Transport Lucerne, Lidostrasse 5, will be open to collectors and enthusiasts on Sunday, December 18, from 9 to 11am. From 11am to 3pm it is also open to the public.

Jaguar: With a top speed of 320 km/h, the world championship title is the goal 🎥

TECHNOLOGY PUSH With the new I-Type 6, Jaguar aims to win the 2023 Formula E World Championship. Technical highlights include powerful brake energy regeneration, which eliminates the need for hydraulic rear brakes.

Jaguar TCS Racing has unveiled its new all-electric race car, the I-Type 6. The new car will be used in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which kicks off the new Gen 3 era as early as January 14 in Mexico. The I-Type 6 is the most efficient electric Jaguar race car ever.

For the first time, the bolide has a second electric motor on the front axle. Together with the rear-axle motor, the I-Type 6 can recover up to 600 kW and thus twice as much energy as the previous Gen 2 car. As a result, the more compact and even more agile Gen-3 race car can dispense with rear-wheel brakes. Because the new race car now delivers a maximum output of 350 kW and weighs 74 kilograms less than its predecessor, it reaches a maximum speed of 320 km/h.

Jaguar I-Type 6
The new Gen 3 Jaguar I-Type 6 car enters the race with a new look and enhanced powertrain technology.

Four e-racers with Jaguar power on the grid
Jaguar TCS Racing enters the 2023 season with a new livery design that is a combination of carbon black, satin white and gold accents. Thanks to the mirror-image color scheme, it creates two individual designs for drivers Mitch Evans and Sam Bird. A sign of continuity and consistency is the fact that Jaguar's driver lineup has remained the same for the third consecutive season.

At the championship start in Mexico City, four Formula E racers will be on the grid with Jaguar power for the first time, because in addition to the I-Type 6, Jaguar Racing is also equipping the two cars of the English team Envision Racing.

Still a test bench for practice
The next generation of Formula E will continue to be a test bed for Jaguar TCS Racing and Jaguar Land Rover. While developing new cutting-edge technology to succeed in the world championship, the team will deliver valuable transfers for series development in the areas of electric powertrain, sustainability and software solutions.

Cupra: acid test for Nico Müller in Valencia 🎥

PARTNERSHIPS Abt Cupra spent five days preparing for the new Formula E season at official test drives. It all started on January 14 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in the heart of Mexico City.

During testing in Valencia, Spain, the Abt Cupra team with Nico Müller and Robin Frijns (gallery left) presented the ZF logo on the new generation of its race car for the first time. The technology group with its headquarters in Friedrichshafen will be Abt's technical partner and is working closely with the racing team on its Formula E comeback.

Thomas Biermaier, CEO Abt Sportsline and Team Principal Abt Cupra FE: "Abt and ZF have been working together for a long time in many racing series. That's why we're delighted that the two brands are forming a team in Formula E."

ZF is responsible for the driveline
As a partner of Mahindra Racing, ZF is responsible for the development of the powertrain which Abt, as a Mahindra customer team, is also using in the cars of Robin Frijns and Nico Müller this season.

Sascha Ricanek, Managing Director ZF Race Engineering: "Formula E is really taking off in the new season with more powerful cars and four new race tracks. We are therefore very proud that our electric ZF driveline will be used in Abt's return to Formula E."

Another company that Abt sports marketing boss Harry Unflath has brought on board is Südpack. The company is a leading manufacturer of high-performance films for packaging food, medical goods and non-food products as well as for technical applications. The joint test drives of all teams were also the dress rehearsal for the start of the season. From Valencia, all the racing cars and the entire equipment will go directly on their journey to Mexico.

Cupra Formula E
Abt starts the Formula E season with a new car, new partners and new drivers.

Formula E team has adjusted well

Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO Abt SE: "It's great to see how our Formula E comeback is becoming reality bit by bit. For Abt Cupra FE, the focus in Spain was not on fast lap times, but above all on the newly formed team settling in and practicing the cooperation with Mahindra more and more."

For Nico Müller and Robin Frijns, these were the first days in their race cars. While Frijns has also raced in Formula E in recent years, it's a bit of a comeback for his colleague.

Nico Müller: "It feels really good to be back in the Formula E paddock and among the Abt team. We've got on well as a team and have grown together more and more. The anticipation is rising."

Toyota: Corolla Cross with hydrogen in everyday test

TECHNOLOGY OPENNESS Multitechnology with battery and fuel cell electric powertrains, as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, enables Toyota customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

Toyota Corolla Cross
In the meantime, the H2 engine has reached the performance level of a gasoline engine.

In addition to the electric drive with battery or with fuel cell, Toyota is also further developing hydrogen combustion technology. This year, the Japanese have participated in all Super Taikyu endurance races in Japan with the Rookie Racing Team. The vehicle used is a GR Corolla H2 with a hydrogen engine. Toyota President Akio Toyoda, under the pseudonym Morizo, was at the wheel himself at each race to assess the development.

Road vehicle prototype
In Europe, a Toyota GR Yaris H2 with hydrogen engine drove on public roads for the first time in August this year. Regular intensive motorsport activity has significantly accelerated development. During the Super Taikyu season, it was possible to increase the power of the hydrogen engine by 24 percent and the torque by as much as 33 percent, thus reaching the performance level of a gasoline engine.

The progress made gave the developers the confidence to create a prototype road vehicle - the Corolla Cross H2 Concept. To this end, the 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine from the GR Corolla was fitted with high-pressure hydrogen injection and the hydrogen tank from the Mirai was installed.

The result was a Corolla Cross H2 hydrogen prototype with room for five people and their luggage. Evaluation on the road is currently underway.

Adaptation of existing technologies
The positive aspect of hydrogen combustion is mainly that, on the one hand, it opens up new prospects for combustion engine technology and, on the other hand, it consumes fewer resources such as lithium and nickel for batteries.

By adapting existing technologies, hydrogen combustion can lead more quickly to CO2 reductions that can be realized on a large scale.

TCS: Swiss gasoline prices in daily comparison

ADVICE Two weeks after the launch of the gasoline price radar, which the Touring Club Switzerland developed with the involvement of the public, this platform is enjoying broad support from motorists.

Gasoline price comparison
The new TCS platform provides a quick overview of favorable fuel prices.

With more than one million cumulative visits and 2500 daily updated data, the prices of 90 percent of the registered gas stations are now visible. So far, price differences of up to 48 centimes per liter have been detected. The platform, which is free of charge and accessible to all road users, is being further developed and improved daily by TCS.

More than 3000 price quotes from gas stations
In total, the Platform more than 12,000 contributors registered and 150,000 individual visits made. More than 3000 service stations now display at least one price.

Jürg Wittwer, General Manager of TCS: "The enthusiasm with which our platform has been received shows that it meets a real need and that the community is willing to contribute for the benefit of all."

Monthly competition is being planned
The price at the pump is influenced by numerous factors, such as the location of the service station, the rent for the land on which the service station is located, the wage level in the region concerned, or the transportation costs to bring the fuel to the service station.

Among fuels, Unleaded 95 has been the most accessed, with nearly 400,000 hits since launch, followed by Diesel with 150,000 and Unleaded 98 with 35,000 queries. The platform is constantly being improved. During the next few weeks, several innovations are planned, including a monthly contest with attractive prizes to be won. In addition, the Platform soon to be integrated into the TCS app.

Porsche: Artistic journey under water 🎥

ORIGINAL Two Polish conceptual artists transformed a Porsche into an apparition from another world. At the Gdynia Design Days art festival, Ada Zielinska and Rafal Dominik presented a unique installation.

One morning last summer in the Polish port city of Gdynia, there was a crowd on the quay. Suspended at a great height, the unmistakable outline of an early Porsche 911 could be seen, its faded red body almost completely covered in coral and seaweed.

Porsche art
Among Porsche fans and in the artist scene, the installation quickly became an Internet hit.

Dreaming imagination and a 911
However, it was not about the recovery of a lost car there, but rather an installation by conceptual artists on the occasion of the annual Gdynia Design Days art festival. Playfully working with the themes of the 2022 festival - the ocean and climate change - the artists created a fantastical vision of an artificial reef by interweaving an air-cooled 911 and a dreamy narrative to imagine what this car would look like if left to the Baltic Sea for generations.

Challenge to find a car
The first challenge was also the biggest: finding a car for such an artistic journey. Marek Sworowski, head of marketing at Porsche Poland, set out to find a Porsche owner who would agree to watch the car temporarily transform into an artificial reef. Marek Sworowski: "We narrowed the search down to contacts whose cars were in need of restoration. So when we found a 1973 911T, that seemed like the right choice. No matter what layer - anyone would recognize the well-known 911 shape."

Artificial coral structures in 3D printing
For Zielinska and Dominik, the artistic process consisted of creating artificial coral structures from crushed shells and 3-D printing, and bonding them to the surface of the car in an intensive two-week effort.

Ada Zielinska: "When the finished work - lifted by a crane over the harbor - was first seen, many onlookers were quite shocked. They really thought the car had been salvaged from the sea."

Mercedes-Maybach: Automobile Haute Couture for Collectors 🎥

There's hardly a more elegant way to present the S-Class Mercedes-Maybach in a limited edition of 150 units as the Haute Voiture version. This model combines special materials and consummate craftsmanship.

The limited special edition Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Haute Voiture is a collector's item for special occasions. Presented as a concept in May of this year, the design has been further developed with new, carefully coordinated details. Maybach presented the new model for the first time in Dubai.

Maybach Haute Voiture
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Haute Voiture offers maximum exclusivity.

New chapter of highest exclusivity

Gorden Wagener, Chief Designer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, comments: "The S-Class Haute Voiture, limited to 150 units, heralds a new chapter of supreme exclusivity for the brand. Part of our philosophy is to release strictly limited, sensational collector's items from time to time."

The special edition is a Mercedes-Maybach S 680, which is in this version to large parts in the manufacture in Sindelfingen, handmade. The vehicles are numbered from 1 to 150, the numbers are engraved in each case on a plaque in the center console

Blue and pink take center stage
Based on the Haute Voiture concept model, the exterior of the production vehicle is characterized by an exclusive two-tone paint finish, nautical blue metallic in the upper section and pink in the lower section, as well as rims in nautical blue metallic. An additional highlight is the animated environment projection. When the doors are opened, animated Maybach patterns appear using LCD technology, illuminating the front and rear entry areas.

In the interior, a high-quality, fashion-inspired bouclé fabric runs like a thread through the entire model. The fabric is in shades of blue, beige, rose gold and gold and is also found in the seat covers and cushions as an additional detail. Accents of crystal white leather on the consoles, in the doors and with the side cushions welcome passengers.

Bag collection to match the car
To make the exclusive experience complete, customers receive a car cover with Maybach and Haute Furniture logos for the vehicle, as well as a handmade box. It contains a scale model and a key fob. A bag collection will be available to accompany the production vehicle in Maybach Icons of Luxury boutiques and the online store in early 2023.
