Jaguar: This is the electric SUV I-PACE 2023

CARE IN DETAIL Jaguar is upgrading the electrically powered I-PACE for the new model year - with refined design, additional equipment, R-Dynamic models and, for the first time, satin paint finishes in two colors.

Jaguar I-PACE
Jaguar has comprehensively revised the all-electric luxury model I-PACE.

With its distinctive cab-forward profile and short overhangs, the I-PACE is instantly recognizable. Now Jaguar has further developed this design. The redesigned front grille does away with the glossy black diamond pattern and instead features a smooth, closed shape in Atlas Gray. The vertical trim on the sides of the lower cooling air vents is also in this color.

To emphasize the dynamic character, all models with 22-inch wheels feature a discreet rear spoiler on the luggage compartment lid. For the first time, customers can choose a Satin paint finish for their I-PACE. These finishes, optionally in Eiger Grey or Carpathian Grey, give the vehicle an elegant look.

Smooth electric driving experience

Nick Collins, Head of Vehicle Program Jaguar: "The I-PACE has always offered what customers expect from a Jaguar, a comprehensive package of technology and everyday practicality combined with a smooth electric driving experience. For the new model year, we are now adding rich equipment options to the car."

Strong performance and power

Two electric motors integrated into the front and rear axles drive the new model with a system output of 294 kW (400 hp), maximum torque is 696 Nm. The car sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 km/h.

The 90 kWh battery gives the I-PACE a range of up to 415 WLTP kilometers. Charging at the 100 kW fast charging station provides energy for up to 127 additional kilometers in just 15 minutes. From 0 to 80 percent takes around 40 minutes. Preconditioning is another technique for improving the driving experience.

The new edition of the I-PACE can be ordered in Switzerland with immediate effect. Prices start at 97,000 Swiss francs for the EV400 R-Dynamic SE version.

Genesis: New models as pure electric vehicles from 2025 🎥

FUTURE The Korean Hyundai luxury brand Genesis is going electric in leaps and bounds. Numerous awards and live events made 2022 a successful year for Genesis in Europe.

The highlights of the past year include the three newly launched all-electric models. The first was the GV60, the brand's first model based on the E-GMP platform developed for electric vehicles. The two Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 models continued the electrification of the model range.

The Genesis GV60 is the brand's first all-electric car.

Partnership with Shell Recharge Solutions

In addition, Genesis agreed a partnership with Shell Recharge Solutions in 2022 and launched the Genesis Charging solution in Europe. From 2025, every new model will then be equipped with an all-electric powertrain, and the brand is aiming for zero emissions by 2030.

2022 saw the debut of two Genesis concept cars. The X Speedium Coupé (center gallery) embodies the brand's DNA while offering a glimpse of the next generation of electric vehicles. The pursuit of a sustainable yet luxurious future is exemplified by the Genesis X Convertible unveiled in California.

Positive media response to comparative tests

Various comparative tests by trade journals in 2022 highlighted how much Genesis stood out from the competition. In particular, the high-quality interior, comfort and driving dynamics were mentioned. The GV60 in particular earned a lot of praise and cleared various prizes and awards. Among other things, the model won a Red Dot Award for product design and was named Swiss Car of the Year and German Car of the Year.

Over half of sales are electric cars

While sales figures have grown steadily, deliveries are now also picking up speed. This has created a solid foundation for the new year. Sales of the 2023 model year GV60 have already got off to a good start. Electric cars account for 52 percent of Genesis sales in Europe.

Frankfurt is the location of the second German Genesis studio after Munich. A second London studio was opened at the famous Battersea Power Station, followed in December by the inauguration of the Basel location in Switzerland.

Porsche: Champion of the virtual Le Mans series 🎥

COANDA ESPORTS The best in the virtual Le Mans series are the racers from Porsche. The number 20 car of the simracing factory team finished the virtual race in second place, while its sister car came in sixth.

The Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team has won the 2022/2023 virtual Le Mans series. Factory drivers Joshua Rogers and Mitchell de Jong joined former Porsche juniors Ayhancan Güven and Laurin Heinrich to finish second in the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans (center gallery). The quartet crossed the finish line on the digital Circuit des 24 Heures just 21.1 seconds behind the winning LMP2 car from Team Redline.

Porsche Coanda Esports
Porsche finished the virtual Le Mans Championship in first place.

Highlight of the virtual Le Mans racing series

The virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans formed the climax and conclusion of the virtual Le Mans racing series. The special thing about this championship is that seasoned professionals from real motorsports alternate with simracing experts at the wheel of the digital race cars.

The Porsche simracing works team was already able to demonstrate its competitiveness in qualifying. Rogers pulled away from the runner-up with a commanding best time. The Australian thus moved into the hyperpole session of the fastest six, as did his teammate Mack Bakkum in the second Porsche Coanda race car.

After lagging behind then to the second position

The race got off to a turbulent start. With an ambitious maneuver in the first chicane, reigning Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen initially snatched the lead. Starting driver Laurin Heinrich maintained second position with the number 20 car, and Porsche Supercup driver Morris Schuring finished fourth.

After exciting racing, Rogers, de Jong, Güven and Heinrich were able to halve their gap to Team Redline's No. 2, but were unable to close it completely. So the second position jumped out for them.

Mitchell de Jong after the race: "We finish the season as champions, but of course we also wanted to win Le Mans. Still, it was a good race for us."

Market: Schweizer family likes to ride on two wheels

MARKET FOR MOTORCYCLES Following record sales during the Corona years 2020/21 and after the changes to driver's license categories at the beginning of 2021, the Swiss motorcycle and scooter market has settled at a high level in 2022.

Motorcycle market
The share of electrically powered new scooters increased in 2022.

With 48,693 new registrations, the Swiss motorcycle and scooter market in 2022 is well above the pre-pandemic level. Without the global supply and raw material problems at the manufacturers, the result would have been even better.

Although the 2022 result represents a drop of 13.6 percent compared to the record year of 2021 with 56,376 units, it also represents an increase of 17.4 percent compared to 2019. The popularity of the motorized two-wheeler thus remains unbroken among the Schweizer family.

125cc class with strong growth

Since the models in the class up to 125 cm, which are limited to an engine output of 15 hp (11 kW)3 Since 16-year-olds have been allowed to ride 125s in Switzerland since January 1, 2021, as in the rest of Europe, the market in this category has literally exploded. In 2022, 6516 of the total 28,032 new registrations were in the 125cc class. Only the upper motorcycle class with more than 1000 cm3 displacement was even more in demand at 6762 units.

Motorcycle market Motorcycle marketMotorcycle marketEra of all-electric scooters is here

The electric age has arrived for scooters, which are mainly used for short trips. In 2022, the share of electrically powered new scooters amounted to 2835 units, or 15.7 percent of the total scooter market, which declined by 3.1 percent.

In the case of larger motorcycles, which are mainly used for leisure purposes, electric technology is still unable to gain a foothold for reasons of range and space, and consequently for lack of attractive offerings. The new motorcycle and scooter season kicks off with the Motofestival in Bern from February 23 to 26.

Garagist Day: Cars mean fascination

FUTURE The car will continue to play an important role in mobility. AGVS President Thomas Hurter and the speakers at the Swiss Garage Day in the Kursaal Bern were convinced of this.

Day of the garage owners
Around 850 participants discussed the important problems of the Swiss garage industry in the Kursaal in Bern.

Around 850 participants were brought up to date by specialist speakers at the 17th Day of Garage Professionals, the largest and most important industry gathering in Switzerland. There are numerous problems facing the Swiss garage industry in connection with the current rapid changes in the automotive industry.

Technology bans are not a solution

Thomas Hurter, Central President of the AGVS (gallery left): "We are convinced that the car is not only fascinating in the past but also today and will be the most important means of transportation in the future. The AGVS also wants to support the political goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2050, but we are not prepared to achieve this with technology bans and a one-sided focus. As around two thirds of all cars will still be powered by combustion engines in 2035, the solution is not just a rapid switch to electromobility. Continuous further development of the combustion engine is needed so that emission improvements are also possible in regions where electromobility will not become established for some time yet. Synthetic fuels are ideally suited for this because they can be produced in sunny and windy regions and then distributed all over the world."

Electric vehicles are cars without a soul

Motor pope and petrolhead Mario Illien (gallery, right) took part in the Garage Owners' Day as a speaker: "For me, an electric vehicle is a car without a soul. Europe is also on the wrong track and, after becoming dependent on Russia, is now slipping into dependence on China. I am in favor of building sensible cars. The current vehicles are too big and too heavy. We don't need 500 hp for our mobility. I see the solution in serial hybrid vehicles."

Agency models unsettle the industry

New sales models are an important topic in the automotive industry. With genuine and non-genuine agency models, car manufacturers want to gain more control over the entire supply chain right through to the end customer. The car buyer should draw up their purchase contract with the manufacturer and no longer with the dealer.

All agency models introduced so far have advantages and disadvantages for manufacturers and garages, but the lack of experience means that there is still a great deal of uncertainty in the automotive industry.

Fach Auto Tech celebrated a double victory in the 992 class.

Double victory for racers from Fach Auto Tech

In addition to P2 for Allemann, there was even more reason to cheer from a Swiss perspective in Dubai. Fach Auto Tech celebrated a double victory in the 992 class, with the Porsche driven by the three Swiss drivers Alexander Fach, Peter Hegglin and Jan Klingelnberg crossing the finish line in second place, three laps behind the winning Fach Porsche with the #962.

Our goal was to stand at the top of the podium, and we achieved it. The 992 was the biggest class in the field and also strongly contested, so we can be very proud of this performance."

Four rings reached rank 14

Team Audi Sport (gallery left) helped shape the rally to the end despite various setbacks. The Audi drivers led the race in Saudi Arabia with the prototype for three days for the first time. However, a series of punctures, the accident-related retirements of Carlos Sainz, Lucas Cruz, Stéphane Peterhansel and Edouard Boulanger as well as a big time loss for Mattias Ekström and Emil Bergkvist prevented a better result than 14th place.

Rating motorcycles and trucks

The motorcycle classification was won by Kevin Benavides from Argentina on KTM. In the Trucks, Dutchman Janus van Kasteren secured victory in the Iveco Powerstar, while Frenchman Alexandre Giroud on Yamaha Raptor 700 maintained his dominance of the Quads (gallery on the right) right to the end. Ice Race: Cancellation due to too warm weather 🎥

SPRING IN THE ALPS The GP Ice Race 2023, which was scheduled to take place in Zell am See from January 27 to 29, is cancelled due to the ongoing warm weather. Tickets already purchased will be refunded.

After promising conditions in early December, the change in weather over the past few weeks has shrunk ice reserves in Zell am See, Austria, below the minimum and prevented further ice production.

Even a short-term search for alternative solutions quickly showed that the necessary conditions for the safe running of the event were not in place.

Ice Race Zell am See
Cross-country skiing on ice is unfortunately cancelled again this year.

Disappointment for the organizers

Ferdi Porsche, Managing Director and organizer of the GP Ice Race: "The Ice Race is an experience for all fans. Therefore, it is very difficult for us to have to cancel the traditional event. Unfortunately, the current warm weather situation leaves us no other choice."

Constantin Klein, also managing director and organizer of the GP Ice Race: "We are extremely disappointed. Especially because we were so looking forward to the fans and the audience after two years without spectators. There is a lot of heart and soul in this event."

Ticket refund automatically

All tickets purchased through the official ticket store will be automatically refunded to the account from which they were paid. The organizer asks for some patience and understanding that the refund process can take up to two weeks.
