AutoScout24: Online, the Golf is in first place

ANALYSIS The AutoScout24 online marketplace recorded around 25 million visits in 2022. Analysis of the platform shows that SUVs and cars in classic colors were the most sought-after items last year.

AutoScout24 Marketplace
Around seven million times the ads for the VW classic were clicked on the online marketplace last year

In terms of fuel types, the search is increasingly targeted at cars with alternative drive types. However, the VW Golf continued to be the most popular - the ads for that model were clicked on most frequently on AutoScout24. The typical visitor is between 25 and 44 years old and searched for his dream car via his smartphone in the evening. In 2022, a total of over 750,000 vehicles were advertised on Autoscout24.

Golf is most sought-after vehicle

Mathias Jenny, Head of User Experience Research: "Based on our analyses, we see that people often search first by make and model. Last year, for example, the VW Golf topped the ranking of the most sought-after vehicles. The model has been around for almost 50 years. It is therefore known over several generations. In addition, the Golf is a very compact and versatile car. Further, the model has a very good value retention."

The Porsche 911 made it into second place with around 5.3 million page views. The Skoda Octavia followed in third place with around 2.5 million clicks. Fourth place went to the BMW X5, and fifth place to the VW Tiguan.

Switzerland is now an SUV country

Whereas station wagons were still the most sought-after body type at the end of 2021, search queries became fewer and fewer throughout the year. From May 2022, SUVs will take over. Limousines were in third place in the ranking. Visitors searched most frequently for conventional combustion models. However, vehicles with alternative drive systems are increasingly catching up.

Black or white are in demand

The trend color for the car in 2022 was simply black or white. Around two-thirds of all Autoscout24 visitors therefore chose colors that are not actually colors at all. The colors blue, red and gray followed clearly behind. Search queries for exotic colors such as yellow or orange were very few.

Jasin Ferati from Winterthur wants to win the rookie title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.

Just 17 years young, full of ambition and the new member of the Fach Auto Tech family: that's Morris Schuring. But the Dutchman is no stranger to the Schwyz-based racing team. Last season, Schuring was one of the toughest opponents in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland (center gallery). He finished the 2022 season in sixth place overall.

Alexander Fach wants to be at the top

Alexander Fach also wants to finish well ahead. The 20-year-old already competed for Fach Auto Tech in the German Porsche one-make cup in the 2022 season. The rookie collected a total of three victories and five further podium finishes in the classification for young drivers. The aim is to make the leap to the top in 2023.

Alexander Fach: "I believe that we can achieve a lot together this year. I definitely want to be among the front runners in the overall standings and take podiums, maybe even wins. For me, having Morris as a teammate is a big motivation. I raced against him last year and I think we can learn a lot from each other and push each other."

Jasin Ferati makes his debut in the Cup

Jasin Ferati from Winterthur also wants to learn a lot, as the 19-year-old celebrates his debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland: "I'm really looking forward to continuing to work with the team. Maserati presents old and new sports cars at the Concours d'Elegance in Engadin.

Masterpieces from the past

Maserati is represented with rare masterpieces from its own past, such as the 420M/58 Eldorado, a one-off built for the second edition of the 1958 Monza 500-mile race. There will also be the 3500 GT Vignale Coupé on display, as well as the legendary Mistral, which in 1963 created the brand's tradition of naming its cars after famous winds.

Summer tires: 50 tires in the test for the anniversary 🎥

ADVICE In 1973, the TCS took a closer look at tires for the first time. For its anniversary, it tested 50 tires with partners in the dimension 205/55 R 16. In addition, a new rating system is introduced.

For 50 years, the TCS tire test has allowed an independent cross-comparison between all tires on the market. It is therefore just as relevant for car drivers as it is for garage owners. In this year's summer tire test, a total of 50 tire types of the dimension 205/55 R 16 were tested because of the 50th anniversary. This dimension is the most widespread tire in the lower mid-size class and is a perfect fit for vehicles such as a Skoda Octavia, Ford Focus, Mazda 3 or even VW Golf.

TCS summer tires
The TCS summer tire test shows once again that a tire is always a compromise solution.

Fuel consumption and noise

To mark its anniversary, TCS and its partners also introduced a new 2-pillar assessment. In future, the overall result will be calculated from driving safety (70 percent) and environmental performance (30 percent). Driving safety is made up of the already familiar criteria of handling on dry and wet roads. In addition to the criteria of mileage, fuel consumption and noise, the environmental balance also includes abrasion, tire weight and sustainability.

Overview as PDF Download

Be careful when buying cheap tires

In the test, ten tires received a final rating of "highly recommended," 21 "recommended," twelve "conditionally recommended" and seven "not recommended. Particularly in the safety-relevant criteria, such as tests on wet roads, large differences were evident. At the point where a Continental Premium Contact 6 comes to a halt, a car with a Double Coin DC99 drives 25 meters further because of the longer braking distance. This means that it still has a residual speed of 52 km/h at the level of the Continental braking point.

Environmental balance shows clear differences

Major differences were also revealed in the environmental balance, where the Michelin E.Primacy sets the bar. With the lowest tread depth of all test tires, it not only offers the highest range, but also sets the best mark with the lowest abrasion in the test. And at around eight kilograms, it is a lightweight tire with which low fuel consumption can be achieved. The other side of the coin: It has clear disadvantages in terms of driving safety and is therefore only rated as "conditionally recommendable".

Motofestival: The new season starts in Bern

WHERE TO MEET From February 23 to 26, Bernexpo will be the place to be. The new national motorcycle event is intended to be a loud kick-off to the coming season. Gotthard, Switzerland's number one rock band, will also be there.

The new motofestival at Bernexpo marks the beginning of a new era for the Swiss motorcycle scene. Switzerland's largest event for all things motorized two-wheeled is designed to inspire the public with a wide-ranging mix of exhibition, action and entertainment.

Lots of action and strong shows

Adrenaline junkies will get their money's worth at the FreestyleStreetBikeShow by stunt specialists Domingos Arrepiado, Florian Bugs and Michael Egli. The same applies to the no less spectacular motocross show, where former world champions Marc Rebeaud & Friends will thrill the audience with breathtaking jumps. There will also be a loud noise during the demonstration of a pit stop of an endurance racer with more than 200 hp, presented by the BolligerEnduranceTeam under the direction of Kevin Bolliger.

A little quieter, but no less impressive, the artists of the TrialShow will amaze the audience. Motto: Whoever hits the ground with the

Füssen touches, has lost. In addition to the many stars from the racing scene, celebrities from other sports will also be present - for example, the world-class artistic gymnast and enthusiastic Harley rider Giulia Steingruber.

Transport policy and junior racing

Every day, proven personalities and experts will provide insights into current topics at panel discussions that are open to the public. These include the advent of the electric age in the two-wheeler industry, the current state of transport policy and the problems in junior racing in Switzerland. For relaxation, there will be an integrated food festival with around a dozen stands offering a wide variety of food and drinks, interspersed with musical performances. The organizers have succeeded in getting Gotthard, the most important Swiss rock band, on board as the top act for the Saturday evening.

Says show director Rafael Torres, "Switzerland's number one rock show fits the festival's aspiration to become the leading trade show for the national motorcycle, scooter and accessories scene."

With a little luck, Nic Maeder (vocals), Leo Leoni (guitar), Freddy Scherer (guitar), Marc Lynn (bass) and Flavio Mezzodi (drums) might even be found on a tour of Bernexpo before or after the concert.

Tickets are available online in advance or at the box office. The number of combination tickets for the show and the concert with Gotthard, blues rocker Marc Amacher as well as DJ Matteo is limited. Amacher shines with unadulterated blues and boogie-woogie rhythms. In June 2019, he was allowed to tour Europe as an opening act with Eric Clapton.

Agrola: Hydrogen for the trucks

ENERGY HUB Landi Luzern-West has put one of the most powerful H2 filling stations in Europe into operation at its site in Schötz. Three trucks and one passenger car can be refueled with green hydrogen at the same time.

Agrola hydrogen
At the new station in Schötz, there is green hydrogen and clean trucks.

In Schötz, Lucerne, the 13th hydrogen filling station in Switzerland is in operation, making it the third Agrola brand station after Zofingen and Rothenburg. Landi Luzern-West is thus investing in the promising hydrogen mobility of the future, which will become increasingly important, especially in heavy goods traffic. The filling station is specially designed to meet the needs of trucks.

Mark Muff, Head of Energy and Member of the Executive Board of Landi Luzern-West: "Numerous logistics companies are located in the immediate vicinity of our site. In close cooperation with them, a forward-looking energy hub has been created."

Exclusively green hydrogen

Unique in Europe is that three trucks and one passenger car can be refueled simultaneously in Schötz. Parallel refueling is made possible by the installation of additional medium-pressure storage tanks, which are continuously filled with hydrogen from the mobile containers using compressors. As at all Agrola filling stations, only green hydrogen is offered in Schötz.

Washing plant for trucks and buses

A washing plant operated in accordance with the new standards rounds off the range of services in Schötz. It is also a first for Agrola. Trucks, buses and also cars are cleaned with high pressure in the 27-meter-long 3-brush gantry. The daily capacity of the washing plant is up to 40 vehicles. With the energy hub in Schötz, Landi Luzern-West is making a contribution to the targeted decarbonization of road traffic as well as to the implementation of the federal government's Energy Strategy 2050.

Mark Muff: "This is another step towards sustainable mobility and a response to the increasing demand for environmentally friendly transport solutions."
