Guide: How to have more fun with your car

PLEASE NOTE Sometimes it's little tips that make a difference in the condition of a vehicle in the long run. AGVS garagists are the first port of call for car-related advice and assistance. They also tell you what to avoid.

Driving tips guide
To protect the tires, never drive over the edge of the sidewalk at an acute angle.

It's often the little things that can make a considerable difference in everyday car life. That's why AGVS garagists are happy to help with car-related questions. Here are some tips on what to avoid in order to maintain the fun of your car.

Do not cross sidewalks pointedly

In addition to too low air pressure, damage caused by a lack of care is also an enemy of tires. Damage to the substructure of the tire is particularly treacherous - for example, a so-called shock fracture in the tire fabric caused by crossing the sidewalk at an acute angle. Therefore, one should drive over sidewalks particularly carefully and as straight as possible.

Wipe always with water

Compared to other glass panes, windshields are more susceptible to scratches. Over the years, invisible micro-scratches can accumulate until the view is impaired, for example in backlighting. For this reason, it is important to prevent the windshield wipers from sanding dust and dirt particles across the windshield. The wiper wash function should therefore be activated more frequently the first time the wipers are operated and in dirty weather.

Refrain from continuous braking

Weak continuous braking wears down brake pads more quickly. This leads to more fine dust, dirtier wheels and, in the worst case, heat damage to the brake disc. When driving downhill, you should therefore brake harder and then release the pedal again. With hybrid and electric vehicles, it is important to make optimum use of recuperation, for which a forward-looking driving style is helpful.

Charge electric cars slowly

Like the battery of a smartphone, the battery of an electric car also has a comfort zone. Charging at between 20 and 80 percent capacity tends to extend the battery's life. If you want to charge the battery to 100 percent, you should do this at the wallbox at home rather than at the more stressful fast charger. If you are fast-charging while traveling, it is better to do so only to 80 percent instead of 100 percent. If possible, deep discharges to below 15 percent should also be avoided.

Formula E: Sébastien Buemi scored important points 🎥

VERY KNAPP António Félix da Costa snatches victory in Formula E in Cape Town on a Porsche. He overtook Jean-Eric Vergne shortly before the end and crossed the finish line in first place. Sébastien Buemi also finished in the points.

With a fighting performance, the Portuguese fought his way forward from 12th place and finally secured victory (Gallery ) with a spirited overtaking maneuver on the penultimate lap. Jean-Eric Vergne (DS-Penske), the winner of the last race in Hyderabad, was beaten in the end and finished second.

Pole setter Sacha Fenestraz (Nissan) was in third place until one lap before the end, but then hit the track barrier and thus missed the chance for the first podium finish of his Formula E career. The beneficiary was Nick Cassidy (Envision), who thus finished third.

Formula E Cape Town
Despite a crash, Sébastien Buemi finished fifth in the turbulent race.

Table leader crashed into Swiss

Rene Rast (McLaren) finished fourth, while Sébastien Buemi (Envision) can be pleased with fifth place and important points despite an accident on the starting lap. Daniel Ticktum (Nio), Stoffel Vandoorne (DS-Penske), Norman Nato (Nissan), Andre Lotterer (Andretti) and Jake Hughes (McLaren) completed the top 10.

For the previous leader of the standings, Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche), the race was over shortly after the start. On the first lap, the German braked on the approach to turn 10 and crashed into the rear of Buemi. Wehrlein had to park his car. Edoardo Mortara (Maserati) from Geneva retired on the first lap.

Only 17 of the 22 drivers in the classification

Mahindra had already withdrawn the cars of the factory team of Lucas di Grassi and Oliver Rowland and the ABT customer team of Nico Müller and Kelvin van der Linde in qualifying due to suspension problems. Jaguar driver Sam Bird was also unable to take part in the race after an accident in qualifying.

Wehrlein continues to lead the championship with 80 points. Buemi is the best Swiss driver in sixth place with 41 points. The next Formula E race takes place in four weeks' time on March 25 in Sao Paulo, another new track on the racing calendar.

Lamborghini: past and future 🎥

COOPERATION Automobili Lamborghini celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023. To celebrate, the sports car manufacturer has teamed up with Japan's contemporary artist Ikeuchi as part of an art project.

Inspired by the anniversary motto "The future began in 1963", the joint project between Automobili Lamborghini and Ikeuchi was christened "Chasing the Future".

Stephan Winkelmann CEO of Lamborghini: "We are very proud to present this work of art together with Ikeuchi in the year of our 60th anniversary. The Lamborghini Huracán STO Time Chaser_111100 combines past and future and embodies Lamborghini's values to perfection."

Lamborghini future
The Lamborghini Huracán STO Time Chaser_111100 embodies the values of Lamborghini.

Cooperation with artists

Lamborghini, with its network of 180 dealers in 53 countries, has decided to organize a cross-sector project. Within this framework, several markets will collaborate with renowned artists. The company has created a platform to explore Lamborghini's core values in all forms. The first Japanese collaboration will be presented together with Ikeuchi in Tokyo.

Cyberpunk and robot anime

Since Ikeuchi burst onto the art scene in the early 2010s, his talent has quickly gained worldwide recognition. Inspired by cyberpunk and robot anime, he combines plastic models with parts of industrial products to create a vision of the future with familiar functionality.

Says Ikeuchi, "Lamborghini strives to shape the future and test the status quo, just as I do with my art. Original parts from previous anniversary models were used in the creation of Time Gazer and Time Chaser."

Influence of the heritage of the brand

The Lamborghini Huracán STO Time Chaser_111100 is one of a kind. It expresses Ikeuchi's cybernetics motif and Lamborghini's 60-year history. The influence of Lamborghini's heritage on this Opera Unica is evident from clear references to the introductory colors of previous anniversary models. The 111100 in the model name itself - binary code for the number 60 - also refers to the history.

Sono: Only retrofits instead of Sion

SCHADE The young German company Sono Motors has decided to focus exclusively on solar technology for B2B customers. The Sion electric car will not be built.

Sono Solar Solutions
Solar produces future applications for cars, buses, refrigerated vehicles and RVs.

Munich-based solar mobility solutions provider Sono Motors announced its decision to restructure its business model after lengthy negotiations with potential investors and vehicle customers. In the future, the company intends to focus exclusively on retrofitting and integrating solar technology into third-party vehicles. At the same time, the Sion program will be discontinued with immediate effect.

New products for the solar industry

Sono's solar solutions, consisting of hardware and software, are already being used by 23 business partners in Europe, Asia and the U.S. and are being tested in many cars, buses, refrigerated vehicles and RVs. As the Sion program was very resource-intensive, the company is now implementing significant savings measures.

Laurin Hahn, co-founder and CEO of Sono Motors, said, "Even though we had to discontinue our original heart project with the Sion program, shifting our entire focus to B2B solar solutions provides us with the opportunity to continue developing innovative products in the solar industry."

Funding by European Union

Sono Motors' development partners include Mitsubishi Europe, Chereau and the two VW subsidiaries Scania and MAN Truck & Bus. The potential of Sono Motors' technology is illustrated not only by these partnerships, but also by the European Union.

In January, Sono secured €1.46 million in funding from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency CINEA to advance the development of its proprietary solar technology.

Gas stations: Better supply for electric vehicles

REVIEW In Switzerland, the number of service stations decreased only slightly in 2022. There are 158 branded filling stations with at least one fast-charging station, an increase of almost 60 percent within one year.

Gas stations stores
The range of charging stations for electric vehicles offered by service stations has increased significantly.

The annual survey of branded service stations conducted by Avenergy Suisse shows that there were 3314 branded service stations in Switzerland at the end of 2022, eleven fewer than a year earlier. This means that the trend toward fewer stations is continuing at a slightly slower pace. The number of service stations on highways remains unchanged at 65. Compared with the rest of Europe, Switzerland still has one of the densest networks of service stations.

More stations with one store

Average fuel sales per service station fell slightly from 1.29 million liters in the previous year to 1.22 million liters. The number of service stations with a store increased by 14 to 1372, with 17 service station stores with an area smaller than 50 square meters being added, contrary to the long-term trend, while on the other hand the number of larger stores stagnated. 158 service stations offer at least one electric fast charging station. The number of hydrogen filling stations increased from eight to eleven, and the number of natural gas and liquid gas dispensers remained constant.

Emil Frey Racing
Maranello instead of Sant'Agata - Emil Frey Racing approaches the new season with a new manufacturer partner.

The 2023 season comprises eight DTM race weekends and five GT World Challenge Europe Sprint dates. For the season opener at Brands Hatch, the Emil Frey Racing team will be entering two Ferrari 296 GT3s for the first time. EFR had already announced the brand change from Lamborghini to Ferrari in January.

Team boss Lorenz Frey-Hilti (gallery on the left): "The driver lineup consists mainly of drivers who are familiar to us and who have a good mix of many years of experience and young talent. With Thierry Vermeulen, we were able to win a young, very talented pilot supported by Red Bull for the 2023 racing season."

Number 14 at the start in all races

The car number #14 remains the same in the new season and will be used in all races of the season. It will be driven by the Italian Giacomo Altoè and the Finn Konsta Lappalainen in the GT World Challenge. In the second car, number 69, the Spaniard Albert Costa and the Dutchman Thierry Vermeulen (right gallery), who has recently joined the team, will share the wheel. At the eight DTM races, Englishman Jack Aitken will start with the traditional number 14, and team newcomer Vermeulen will drive number 69.

Thierry Vermeulen is ready for the new season: "I'm looking forward to my first season with Emil Frey Racing and want to achieve the best possible result for my team in the thirteen races. I would like to finish the season with a good result at Hockenheim."
