Herbert Diess retains his role as Group CEO. He also continues to be responsible for the Volkswagen Passenger Cars division and the Volume brand group (in addition to Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat) on the Group Board of Management.
Expected personnel consequences
The Wolfsburg-based carmaker has recently been in the throes of controversy. In particular, the now lifted delivery stop of the new Golf 8 and a controversial commercial had put the board under pressure.
In recent days and weeks, there has been increasing speculation that the misery at Volkswagen could lead to personnel consequences on the Board of Management.
More freedom for the Group CEO
Now, with the approval of the Supervisory Board, the Group Board of Management decided to appoint Brandstätter as the new CEO of the core brand. "The aim is to focus more strongly on the respective tasks at the top of the Group and the brand in the transformation phase of the automotive industry," a statement said.
Herbert Diess, who was previously Group and brand CEO in one, is to be given "more freedom for his tasks as Group CEO" in the future.
