Polestar 5: Precision work down to the last detail
On a first test drive, the Polestar 5 shows how much development work has gone into it - and how consistently it has been implemented. The Swede is a first-class electric GT.

In Sitges, Spain, people are used to seeing as yet unknown car models on display. In this sunny town by the sea 40 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, numerous driving events are held throughout the year, where car manufacturers present their latest creations to the world's media for test drives before they enter the market. Nevertheless, on this particular morning, passers-by are turning their heads, stopping and pulling out their cell phones. Because you don't see a car like this every day, even in Sitges.
The Polestar 5 is not an everyday sight. The Swedish electric GT from Chinese production is sensational, literally. Over five meters long, over two meters wide and 1.42 meters flat, it is bursting with power and energy even when stationary. It also has a sporty design with an elongated silhouette, clear surfaces and striking light graphics, without a rear window but with an elongated glass roof.
This approach is continued in the interior. Reduction instead of overload, combined with high-quality materials. The central control point is a large portrait-format screen with Android infotainment, supplemented by a slim display behind the steering wheel. The controls are operated by touch or voice, which is not always ideal in everyday use - we would have liked a button for selecting the driving modes in particular.
Polestar 5: Two Chassis, One Personality
The first few kilometers quickly show where the Polestar 5's strengths lie. The focus is clearly on comfort and stability - regardless of which version you choose. Both the Dual Motor version with passive suspension and the Performance version with adaptive MagneRide dampers are confidently and sensitively tuned, and are impressive both when cruising and when cornering.
Both versions have two electric motors and all-wheel drive. The base model generates 550 kW/748 hp and 812 Nm, while the Performance goes a little further with 650 kW/884 hp and 1015 Nm. Driving performance is correspondingly high: 3.9 and 3.2 seconds to 100 km/h respectively, electronically limited to 250 km/h. Of course, anyone who regularly calls up this power will not be able to achieve the official WLTP ranges of 670 and 565 kilometers. However, the charging stop does not usually take long: the 112 kWh battery can be charged ultra-fast at up to 350 kW thanks to the 800-volt platform.
With an entry-level price of 115,000 or 135,000 Swiss francs, the Polestar 5 is positioned in a field of established models such as the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, Lucid Air or Zeekr 7GT. The elegant GT certainly has what it takes to hold its own in this league.
