Opel: Diesel power for use at sea

The name says it all: the Opel diesel engine adapted by Cimco Marine AB is called OXE, which means ox in Swedish. And although it doesn't pull like an ox, it does push high-performance boats through the sea. Cimco Marine AB OXE: Power is transmitted from the gearbox to the propeller via a patented belt drive that can withstand the high torque of the turbo diesel.

The outboard engine is based on the two-liter diesel engine that Opel manufactures in Kaiserslautern and which is used on the road in the Cascada, Insignia and Zafira models. In its marine version, the four-cylinder engine produces 200 hp and offers a maximum torque of 400 Newton meters. The OXE diesel is particularly durable and easy to service. In maritime use, it only needs to be serviced every 200 hours and only needs to be overhauled after 2000 hours. Boat engines are subject to particular stress, as they have to run at full throttle most of the time. The turbo diesel consumes around 43 liters per hour, which is 42 percent less fuel than a comparable two-stroke outboard (73 liters). In addition, thanks to the quiet running diesel, the background noise is considerably reduced. A diesel engine therefore increases the range of boats for deep-sea fishing, rescue operations or fish farming.
