The FIA E-Rally Regularity Cup 2020 was only decided in three countries this year. The blue Corsa-e was ahead in the standings from the first round.

The championship for alternative drive systems, sanctioned by the FIA, is designed as a uniformity competition for production vehicles. The aim is to achieve the lowest possible average energy consumption, taking into account the time intervals timed down to a tenth of a second.

E-pioneer Tesla brings up the rear
The Corsa-e required an average of just 12.7 kWh per 100 kilometers. No other team was able to undercut this value, including five international and other national champions.

Volkswagen and Renault took second and third place. The Chinese brand MG, which is only available in the UK, took a respectable fourth place among the eleven manufacturers. Bringing up the rear were Mercedes-Benz and e-pioneer Tesla.

Opening victory in Iceland
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, only three of the nine planned events were held. Polish driver Artur Prusak and his French co-driver Thierry Benchetrit drove the Opel Corsa-e to an unchallenged lead in the first race in Iceland in August.

They secured the championship with two further podium finishes in Portugal at the beginning of October and in Spain in mid-November. The duo was supported by Opel France.

The tests are not about speed, but about adherence to the specified time and low energy consumption.

Rally Cup from 2021
With the Corsa-e Rally, the Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer has become the first brand to develop an all-electric rally car for customer sport. The ADAC Opel-e Rally Cup, the world's first all-electric one-make rally cup, will be launched next year.

For reasons that are well known, the premiere in Germany planned for this year had to be postponed to 2021.
